Kwame joins a long line of perverted Democratic politicians who have fallen in the past year, including former New York Governor Elliot Spitzer, who paid over $4K to a prostitute; L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, whose wife left him after his affair with a T.V. reporter was outed; and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who slept with his best friend’s wife. All of them are backers of Hillary Clinton for President, except Kwame, who recently endorsed Senator Barack Obama.
The Republicans are not much better, as in the case of the oft-married philanderer Newt Gingrich, and the tale of Rudy Giuliani’s awful divorce from his second cousin. Not to mention the exploits of Senator Larry “Wide Stance” Craig. But most of the headlines of late, regarding perverted politicians, have been created by Democrats, for whatever reason.
Kipatrick’s mistake, by the way, was using a city-provided sky-tel pager to send naughty text messages to his former chief of staff. And then he lied about that under oath, about their affair, as did she. Had Kilpatrick not used a government paid for pager he would have been in the clear.
When Michele Martinez was first elected to the Santa Ana City Council she happily accepted a city-provided Blackberry. I told her right away to give it right back. Politicians should NEVER accept cell phones or pagers from the city governments they work for. They are a trap. The resulting phone and pager records can be requested by anyone, using the Freedom of Information Act.

Art, If Michele was only doing city work on her cell phone, pager, etc then why would she need to worry? You can’t be “trapped” if you don’t break the law.
Congratulations to Ms. Martinez for NOT accepting or using any city equipment…but wait a minute…last time I was on the 8th floor of city hall to ask the City Clerk a question the door to Martinez’s office was open and I noticed she has a fancy flat screen computer on her desk…I’m glad she paid for that with her own money! That was good advice Art.

Great post Art! I would be interesting to know the type and cost of cell phones, Blackberrys, computers, etc provided to Councilmembers (would be nice to see it broken down for individual members). If you can ever get that info please write it up in a post. Good work!
