Dump Harry Reid PAC at work

There is a movement in Nevada to oust Senator Harry Reid. You know him, he is the guy seen on T.V., frequently at the microphone in D.C. along with Nancy Pelosi giving the media hounds their sound bites for the day. Rush Limbaugh calls him Dingy Harry and his persona on the T.V. news seems to fit that description more often than not.

A Dump Reid Political Action Committee (PAC) has been formed in Nevada and is trying to raise money to counter what they report as a $ 7 million war chest Reid has for his campaign for re-election.

Reid is the Majority Leader in the United States Senate and has stated that this position enables him to bring federal funds to Nevada (some would call that pork). The implication is that Nevadans would lose big time if they ousted their Senator, thus losing the powerful Majority Leader position. However, the PAC counters that in 2007 Nevada ranked dead last in per capita federal expenditures.

One rumored opponent is Sue Lowden, Nevada Republican Party Chairman. Apparently there are other potential candidates of both parties who are being courted to run.

The public’s disdain for those in Congress is very high. Public approval ratings of Congress sunk even lower than the final ratings for George Bush. A bi-partisan backlash directed at elected incumbents seems to be developing in many places, and the next election could just see many career politicians like Reid finding themselves out of office. Other long time Senators who appear in trouble with the voters are Senator Specter (D-Pennsylvania) and Senator Dodd (D-Connecticut).  Specter recently switched from Republican to Democrat after sensing his Republican base was disappearing.
