…and as they saw their worst nightmare come true, the nation about to be led by a black man they’d already convinced themselves was “the most liberal senator in America,” backed by a constantly growing Democratic majority in both houses of Congress, with progressives and Democrats making gains in statehouses and city councils across the nation, they stood their ground, they raised their game, they made one last heroic stand pulling out all the stops … for discrimination.  For denying rights to a large minority of Americans.  They even said it was the most important thing to them on Tuesday, more important than the Presidential Election.  Why?  I still can’t figure it out.  None of their stated reasons make any sense at all, no matter how often commenters here repeat them. I suppose they just wanted to show that they still can cause some harm, that there is still a remaining cohesion within the bizarre and unholy alliance between the bottomlessly greedy plutocrats running the GOP and the fearful churchgoers pounding the pavement for them… before they finally show each other the door for good.  But meanwhile we all know the good Reverend Doctor was right when he observed, “the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice.”
