Alas, what did the voters of Garden Grove do to deserve the ongoing war between the Van Tran and Janet Nguyen factions? Each side has recruited candidates for the Garden Grove City Council. Tran went with Trung Nguyen, the Garden Grove School Board member who has run for a half dozen offices in the past few years. He lost to Janet when they faced off for the O.C. Board of Supervisors.
Janet picked her Chief of Staff, Andrew Do, even though there is ample evidence that he was living in the Santa Ana Heights and is running as somewhat of a carpetbagger.
I say – ignore both sides and go with local candidates who have been involved in the community for years. For that reason I am endorsing Tony Flores, who is a Republican, and Robin Marcario, who is a Democrat. Each of them have served the people of Garden Grove for years as community activists and each of them can be trusted to represent the people, not the power factions that are dividing the Vietnamese community in Orange County.
Some folks may be surprised by my recommendations as I touted Janet’s Supervisorial campaigns. However, when I asked her to stay out of my City Council race she opted instead to endorse my main opponent, the incumbent Republican Carlos Bustamante. She decided to punt our friendship in the name of political expediency. In so doing she proved what her detractors were saying about her all along – Janet is for Janet, period.
As such, is it a good idea for the people of Garden Grove to back Janet’s handpicked Council Candidate, Do? In a word, “no.”
You may find out more about Flores at this link. And you may find out more about Marcario at this link. And find out more about the Van Tran versus Janet Nguyen war at this link. If you cannot stomach voting for a Republican, vote for Tram Linh Ho instead of Flores. You may read about her at this link. Whatever you do, don’t vote for Paul Lucas! He has had ties to Van Tran and cannot be trusted to serve the people of Garden Grove. Same goes for Steve Jones.
Art, thanks for suggesting Linh, but will you stop calling her Tram?? You are the only one who does that, and if you’re not trying to defeat her by linking her to Tran any more, then you should call her Linh Ho like everyone else does.
I think it’s helpful to the general cause of progress to elect young Viets who are either Dem or independent. TOTALLY outside of both cabals.
You can also read about Linh here, I’m endorsing Ho and Marcario.

Vern,
We went over this already. Perhaps you forgot. Tram is her name. She is registered that way with the California State Bar Association. I am not using her name to impugn her. It is her name. If she doesn’t like it she can legally change it.
Notice that I used my full name as a Council candidate this year. That is the way you ought to do this Vern. I don’t know what game Ho is up to, but she ought to be using her name as it was given to her.
At any rate, I did recommend her too, but only if folks are not comfortable voting for Flores. In my opinion it would be better to go with Flores as he has more experience in the City of Garden Grove than she does.
Yes of course I remember, and I didn’t agree with you then.
What “game” she’s up to, calling herself Linh Ho for the last few years instead of Tram Linh Ho? What sort of game is John Sydney McCain up to, let alone Barack Hussein Obama?
Grrr… never mind.
Vern,
You forget, I have been through this before with Janet Nguyen. Ever wonder why Janet’s signs say “Janet” really big and “Nguyen” really small? It is an attempt to get votes from white voters.
So is Linh trying to do this by dropping “Tram” from her name?
Understand this, I am not including the “Tram” part of her name to malign her. It is her name. In fact when I first wrote about her I had to use “Tram” to find any information on her. Apparently she dropped it in the past few years.
All that said, Marcario is a superior candidate, as if Flores.
