Well, here we go again. BNN chose to rank our friends at the Liberal OC blog #1 this week. Congrats to them, but let’s compare our mutual Sitemeter readership data for this week:
Orange Juice Site Visits this week: 5,993
Orange Juice Page Views this week: 19,442
Liberal OC Site Visits this week: 3,520
Liberal OC Page Views this week: 6,212
BNN ranked the Orange Juice #7 this week. But we had 170% higher readership than the #1 ranked Liberal OC this week. And we had over 300% more page views than the Liberal OC. So how exactly are they #1? It just doesn’t make much sense. It would appear that BNN’s calculator is broken!
So let’s see how Alexa.com ranked the O.C. political blogs this week:
- The Orange Juice Blog – Global Ranking: 234,916
- Red County – Global Ranking: 278,297
- The Liberal OC – Global Ranking: 588,677
- Bolsavik – Global Ranking: 629,399
- John Seiler’s Blog – Global Ranking: 678,808
- Flash Report – Global Ranking: 805,856
- Irvine Tattler – 1,499,752
- Greater Orange News Report – Global Ranking: 3,464,415
Alexa.com cannot differentiate between the O.C. Register’s blogs and the O.C. Register website itself, so we cannot rank them here. Same goes for some of the other media blogs in town.
Alexa.com is widely considered to be the leading traffic-measurement company. Alexa is owned by Amazon.com and is powered by Microsoft Windows Live — it measures traffic-popularity based on 10 million surfers.
Google Analytics is another service that tracks web readership data. It is very reliable but you cannot easily post the readership data, unlike the Sitemeter service. Users have to log in to a special account in order to see the data. I provided BNN with a user account so they could see my readership data. But I don’t know if they have made use of the information therein.
Interestingly, Matt “Jubal” Cunningham, the editor of Red County, has been upset with me for posting this ranking information. He continues to insist that his blog is the top blog – but he won’t post his readership data. So how do we know he is not lying? Quite frankly I don’t know why he is hiding the information. We have ALWAYS made our readership data available to our readers. That’s how we roll.
The fact is, California is a blue state. Why would anyone expect a red blog to be very popular? It is not a winning formula in this state. You would think that Red County would rank higher because they are based in Orange County, which is supposedly a red county, but according to a new U.S. Census report, minorities are now the majority in Orange County. That doesn’t bode well for Red County.
So once again we are the number one political blog in Orange County. Now if Matt wants to counter by posting his own readership data, that would be great. But don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen…
You are a talented propagandist, Art, I will give you that. Say something long enough, and people might start believing it is true.
Alexa.com is widely considered to be the leading traffic-measurement company.
“Widely considered” by whom? Any of your readers can Google around and see for themselves what reputation Alexa has.
But you’re no doubt aware of that. Perhaps that’s why you always neglect to mention Alexa gives Red County a higher traffic ranking than OJ — of course, that must mean THAT metric is broken, just like BNN is broken because OJ doesn’t rank high anymore.
Google Analytics is another service that tracks web readership data. It is very reliable but you cannot easily post the readership data, unlike the Sitemeter service.
Interesting, Art, that you have time to laboriously copy-and-paste all sorts of Alexa rankings of and data on various blogs into your posts, but it’s just much too hard to post a few Google Analytics metrics like Absolute Unique Visitors.
So how do we know he is not lying?
Because I, unlike you, don’t have a track record of telling half-truths and falsehoods, relaying unsubstantiated gossip as fact, and generally showing a disregard for accuracy and the facts.
So continue relying on a single, flawed traffic monitoring software that tells you what no other one will, so you can continue convincing yourself OJ is the number one blog in OC.
And in case you try to lame dodge of demanding I release RC traffic numbers first, I’ll remind you and your readers of this promise you made in June 2007:
“We also added a widget for the Alexa blog ranking system, and we signed up for Google Analytics.
We want to know how we are doing – and we want to share all of that information with our readers.
That was from this post:

The value of a Pedroza promise.

Have you looked in the mirror lately?

And here’s Sarah with the hackneyed, irrelevant come-back.
Matt –
Is it really, though?
‘Because I, unlike you, don’t have a track record of telling half-truths and falsehoods, relaying unsubstantiated gossip as fact, and generally showing a disregard for accuracy and the facts.‘
No, you have a track record of withholding information, such as your supposedly superior numbers.
Seriously, why do you think Art should release the information that you would like him to when you don’t release any? I think it’s a legitimate criticism, and you’ll either answer to it or you won’t, but you’ll also have to deal with the consequences.
Simply ‘blowing this off’ isn’t working, is it? The issue remains until you choose to address it and your stubbornness and excuses are beginning to border on silly.
I’ll always defend your right to do whatever you like with your blog, but that’s different than agreeing that what you do or don’t do is right.

Jubal
Its the old adage-Put up or shut up…..
Since you continually repeat the same tired lame complaint that the Juice’s rankings numbers are irrelevant and not reflective of reality, and certainly not on par with those of Red County, just put your numbers up.
Here in Sacramento, amongst Republican staffers, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, pays any credence to either the Red-Faced County or the Flesh Report. Are they good reading? Absolutely. Its like reading a conservative Colbert comic book–both lite on substantance and policy, but heavy on conservative diatribe and gossip.
The relevance of both Red-faced County and the Flesh Report is comparable to the tripe put out by the Capital Resource Institute and the JubalIdiot counsins, Karen England and Meredith Turney. In contrast to all available documented evidence and policy research and analysis, this group continues to spout the line that Prop 8 is going to pass and is reflective of the thinking of the majority of Californians.
While the CRI public line is similar to yours, the difference is that CRI has no evidence to substantiate its claims about the popularity of Prop 8 in spite of all available information pointing to the contrary.
I would think that you would have the evidence to substantiate your statements about the popularity of Redfaced County. That is, unless your numbers are equal to or below that of the Flesh Report.
Given my interactions with Reep staff, I would speculate that your OC numbers are well below that of the Juice. If Redfaced County’s numbers were better, it would not have to pad its numbers by including other counties and states.
What I suspect is more likely the case is that, when and if Redfaced County put its numbers in print, they would reflect its total readership and not that of its Orange County readership.
The numbers will continue to be skewed.
So the bottom line is that Jubal will continue to plaintively complain how irrelevant the Juice readership postings are without providing any substantive evidence about the popularity of RedFaced County that would point to the contrary of the Juice postings.
So, Jubal, go back into the Commode Suite (Suite C for the newbies) in your office and see if there is any work for you with your buddy Jeff on the support side of Prop 8. At least it will put some food on the table in the Cunningham house in Orange.
Otherwise, until and unless you publically post the numbers, my advice to you is this: “Just shut the f*** up”. I know that you wont. But do your plaintive postings on RedFaced County and the Flesh Report. Not here.
Your plaintive complaints have no audience here. And your complaints have no credibility here in Sacramento.
I love it when SCR enters the fray. It’s all name-calling and grandiose claims from a guy no one knows anything about — including whether you are actually this plugged-in Sacto guy you claim to be.
A “put up or shut up” challenge from an anonymous ranter doesn’t carry a lot of weight.
No, you have a track record of withholding information, such as your supposedly superior numbers.
SMS, I have to believe you are smarter than this. I cannot “withhold” something I have never promised to give. For the umpteenth time, OC Blog/RC has always used site traffic metrics for our own internal use. We have never, ever made grand promises about sharing them with readers in lame attempts to make the competition look bad.
That is Art’s game.
The issue “remains” because Art has concocted this phone “real” ranking system that…surprise! surprise!…puts him in first by selectively using stats from a single, flawed tracking service.
And so the burden is on me to disprove this claim because Art cannot find any other manner of substantiate it?
‘I cannot “withhold” something I have never promised to give.‘
Again, that’s a cop-out. You’re right. You never promised to release your numbers because you would never dream of doing such a thing. You simply claim to be #1 and provide no evidence to support your assertion.
Legally put: Objection! If you’re not going to disclose your numbers, then you should stop attesting to facts not in evidence. If we were in a courtroom, your entire case would be dismissed on the grounds that you’ve provided none.

PS: ‘Put up or shut up’ is actually a very appropriate expression here, the commenter’s questionable credibility aside.
Oh, and another thing. As a multi-partisan blog, we are providing a true public service. Partisan blogs like Red County and LibOC only cater to their partisan base.
According to the numbers, more and more of your readers are jumping ship to our site, which, more than a blog, is a portal into a full spectrum of news and commentary from the ‘Communist News Network’ and ‘Faux News’ to ‘Huffington Post’ and ‘Drudge Report.’
Can you get everything you get on OJ on any other site? I didn’t think so and all of the redundant partisan bickering on other blogs is really tiresome. ‘Viva la resistance!’
SMS
Again, that’s a cop-out.
No, Sarah, it’s the truth. There’s a difference.
You never promised to release your numbers because you would never dream of doing such a thing.
Mindreading — always a good substitute for not knowing what you’re talking about. Talk about “facts not in evidence.”
You simply claim to be #1 and provide no evidence to support your assertion.
Maybe you haven’t noticed, but on Red County we rarely ever talk about our status in the OC blogosphere. The only time I ever post about our traffic is in anniversary posts, as milestones to mark our growth.
I only assert the reality that OC Blog is number one in the context of Art’s repeated, phony attempts to claim OJ is OC’s most popular blog — based on selective use of stats from a solitary traffic ranking service that is widely viewed as flawed.
Otherwise, I never talk about it. Art, on the other hand, is obsessed by rankings and alone in the OC blogosphere feels the need to continually state his relevance.
I see the numbers Art has posted, and they don’t approach ours. And I’ll match my credibility and reputation for being factual against Art’s any second of the day.
Partisan blogs like Red County and LibOC only cater to their partisan base.
That’s plain, unadorned, horse puckey. RC has plenty of non-GOP readers because they trust that the information we provide is reliable, even if they disagree with our interpretation of it.
Why is it the OJ crew are unable to tout their own blog without taking shots at RC and LiberalOC?
According to the numbers, more and more of your readers are jumping ship to our site…
More of the “facts not in evidence” you try to charge me with.
True, OC Blog doesn’t serve the portal function like it used to since the redesign. We only have so much screen real estate, and the blogroll was de-emphasized. TheLibOC took over more of that function.
On the other hand, I noticed much of your blogroll was simply copied from the old OC Blog site, because you added a bunch of blogs that have been dead for a long, long time.
As a rule, i would check to see if a blog was actually functioning before adding it to the blogroll. But that’s just me.
Matt –
“You never promised to release your numbers because you would never dream of doing such a thing.
Mindreading — always a good substitute for not knowing what you’re talking about. Talk about ‘facts not in evidence.’”
Is that a joke? You’ve outright said that you won’t release your numbers. I don’t have to be a mindreader to figure this one out, although some of my friends may argue that it helps.
‘True, OC Blog doesn’t serve the portal function like it used to since the redesign. We only have so much screen real estate, and the blogroll was de-emphasized. TheLibOC took over more of that function.‘
Another bad joke? If there are bad links on our blogroll, I’ll go and delete them, but the ‘Liberal Launching Pad’ doesn’t even come close to the RSS services that we provide. I’d say arguing that we may have a slightly outdated blogroll is a cop-out too.

I have a floor session @ 3pm today. But I couldnt help but respond to your inane comments.
The bottom line is that if RedfacedCounty publishes those numbers, it will lose its advertising $$$ in a very quick and fast manner.
So its in your best interests to make the argument that you do.
The bottom line here is that I am not going to disclose who I am or what I do.
Your comment that ” A “put up or shut up” challenge from an anonymous ranter doesn’t carry a lot of weight” illustrates the problem that you have. You have no credibility whether in OC or here in Sac. In the next 5 years, the Republican Party will be a non player here is Sacramento. Statewide, the numbers go against you again. All you have left is the OC sandbox that you call your own. Within the next 10 years, the OCRP will be a minor player in the state. It already is here in Sacramento.
As to whether I exist, suffice it to say that I do. I have an assembly floor session to deal with.
Like I said, keep your plaintive commentary on RedFaced County.
I have to laugh at your comments about my anonymity. This plaintive complaint from someone who anonymously hid behind the Jubal moniker for years.
Go back to your sandbox at 435
BTW what does alcarbon mean????
SCR:
I have a floor session @ 3pm today.
Don’t want you to miss the floor session. Somebody might need you to fetch a glass of water.
The bottom line is that if RedfacedCounty publishes those numbers, it will lose its advertising $$$ in a very quick and fast manner.
Wow, you don’t say? That would be news to our advertisers, with whom we share such information.
The bottom line here is that I am not going to disclose who I am or what I do.
Of course not. Then it wouldn’t be possible to carry on this “I’m a Sacto player” act.
You have no credibility whether in OC or here in Sac.
Again, the claim of an anonymous crank versus the evidence of my eyes, and those of many others…including cross-section of Sacto and Calif. GOP politicos I’ve spoken with.
As to whether I exist, suffice it to say that I do. I have an assembly floor session to deal with.
I’ve no doubt you exist. I just don’t believe you the Sacto wheel you pretend to be, any more than believe you’re the Servite High School graduate you used to pretend to be.
Like I said, keep your plaintive commentary on RedFaced County.
Sorry, SCR, I prefer to deal with OJ on OJ.
I have to laugh at your comments about my anonymity. This plaintive complaint from someone who anonymously hid behind the Jubal moniker for years.
Yes, I did use a pseudonym. Unlike you, I did not abuse it as something to hide behind as a way to engage in juvenile, vicious name-calling.
And if you visit thesaurus.com, I’m sure you can find a synonym to “plaintive.”
“You never promised to release your numbers because you would never dream of doing such a thing.
SMS, I misread your comment. I thought you were attempting to divine my intentions.
Upon re-reading, I see you’re statement was just a tautology: I won’t release my numbers because I won’t release my numbers.
If there are bad links on our blogroll, I’ll go and delete them, but the ‘Liberal Launching Pad’ doesn’t even come close to the RSS services that we provide. I’d say arguing that we may have a slightly outdated blogroll is a cop-out too.
Ever heard of a timeline? The RC re-design was in November 2007. A number of readers looking for a portal aspect to their blogtrolling started usiing LibOC for that purpose.
You re-design only happened a couple of months ago, and much of your blogroll is out-of-date links kyped from the old OC Blog site. Am I wrong or right?
Art –
Since you haven’t posted the most recent data from the ever-reliable Alexa rankings, I thought I would save you the trouble:
redcounty.com: 216,862
theliberaloc.com: 378,239
flashreport.org: 527,761
theorangejuice.com: 10,442,940
And for some perspective…
Yahoo.com: 1
DrudgeReport.com: 600
HuffingtonPost.com: 607
RedState.com: 44,073
When will you realize the silliness of you posting this kind of information. Just look at the wild swings in rankings from week to week. How do you justify the FlashReport moving nearly 1/2 million spots in the span of a week? How do you justify data that show your own blog moving a whopping (and obviously inaccurate) 10 MILLION spots in the span of a week?
Can’t we all agree that the data is absurd?
Scott,
Nice try but we are ranked 228,239 over the last week. You looked up our alternate URL. The one you ought to be looking at is http://www.orangejuiceblog.com.
Congrats on finally besting us in the rankings – barely – after we dominated you for two months!
Boys –
Break it up. Here’s the truth: We haven’t caught up to Red County in the 3-month rankings, but we’re very, very close considering our readership boom only happened TWO months ago.
Art the red blog hasn’t caught up to us, we’ve caught up to them and we’re getting ready to surpass them.
Matt –
‘You re-design only happened a couple of months ago, and much of your blogroll is out-of-date links kyped from the old OC Blog site. Am I wrong or right?‘
I don’t know where the list came from. I wasn’t in charge of compiling it, just adding it.
