Fred Thompson drops out of the presidential race

Republican Fred Thompson has quit the presidential race. That makes a lot of sense since he did not do well in South Carolina, or any of the other caucuses and primaries.

I wonder who Assemblyman Chuck DeVore is going to back now? My guess is he will go with Mitt Romney since most of the OC GOP machine is in his camp.

But, Thompson may end up supporting Senator John McCain, “In the statement, Thompson did not say whether he would endorse any of his former rivals. He was one of a handful of members of Congress who supported Arizona Sen. John McCain in 2000 in his unsuccessful race against George W. Bush for the party nomination.” (AP)

If Thompson does end up backing McCain, that can only help the wily Senator as he contends with the other GOP candidates in Florida.

Locally, McCain is the candidate of choice for the “Trannies,” who are acolytes of Assemblyman Van Tran. I am sure Tran will be calling DeVore today to try to get him to back McCain too.

I shudder to think what could happen if McCain becomes the GOP nominee and then wins the White House. Imagine all those corrupt Trannies getting juicy federal appointments. Or Tran, whose wife was indicted, ending up in the U.S. Department of Justice. God help us!

As for the other candidates, it will be interesting to see if Rudy Giuliani can get any kind of traction in Florida. I think he blew it by not campaigning in the other primaries. He should have run harder in New Hampshire and Nevada. Now he just looks like a loser. Florida will either make him or break him…
