The Costco proposed for the campus of Golden West College is dead. “A proposal to build a discount megastore on 14 acres of undeveloped land at Golden West College and student housing died Wednesday night after Coast Community College trustees decided to heed the college president’s recommendation to reject the plan,” according to the O.C. Register.
I am told that Trustee Jim Moreno led the charge against the Costco plan. Well done Jim! What a great Christmas present for the students at Golden West and the surrounding community.
The president of Golden West College, Wes Bryan, initially backed the Costco plan. Now he has “recommended that officials move forward with the plans already in the college’s master plan to develop a six or seven-acre parcel for student or faculty housing, or other needs.”
A local resident put it this way, “Thanks to Bryan for conceding,” said Les Mittleman, a Huntington Beach resident. “This is a good flip-flop. I congratulate you.”
