Santa Ana Unified School District Board of Education Trustee Rosie Avila is showing us once again why she should be booted out of office next year, when she comes up for reelection.
Avila wrote a diatribe against immigrants that was published in today’s O.C. Register. What is the problem with that, you ask? Well, a good number of the students in the SAUSD are immigrants, as are many of the parents. Avila is supposed to represent them…but she made it clear today that she despises them. No wonder Mexican-hater Tan Nguyen appointed Rosie as his alternate to the OC GOP Central Committee! They are pajaros of a feather!
Here are a few excerpt’s from Avila’s rant, my comments appear in italic type:
Everyone points a finger at illegal immigration, and we should. Some say more than 12 million immigrants have entered illegally and disregarded our laws. America was built on the Rule of Law. (Actually, the U.S. was built on land stolen from the native Americans, many of whom were murdered by the early Americans. And the country was born in a revolution against the British Empire. Where was the rule of law when American patriots seized a ship that wasn’t theirs and tossed its shipment of tea overboard?)
During the 1960s America lost its way. The first “finger pointing back at us” is America’s welfare system, established under President Lyndon Johnson. Our “War on Poverty,” rather than alleviating the plight of the poor, institutionalized poverty. With this new entitlement, people could get a regular paycheck without leaving home. For some there was no need to do hard, menial work such as cleaning offices, cutting lawns or washing cars, resulting in “jobs that some Americans would not do.” Our neighbors to the south looked over the wall and said, “We will do those jobs.” And they did. (It looks like Rosie hates all the poor, not just Latino immigrants. Memo to Rosie…Santa Ana leads the county in poverty and working poor. And there are more Asians and whites on welfare than Mexicans!)
“He who does not work, should not eat” is a biblical principle credited for saving our early American colonies. (Weren’t they saved by friendly Native Americans, who they later murdered? And weren’t many of the early Americans indentured servants…essentially slaves? Does Rosie want to bring back slavery?)
In addition to those on welfare, we have added the immigrant poor, who work very hard, yet struggle to support large families on subsistent wages, working at entry-level jobs that were never meant to support a family. (Hey Rosie…aren’t you pro-life, ie. anti-abortion? And now you are complaining about the immigrant’s large families? What do you want them to do, abort their children? Good grief! And aren’t many of the owners of the companies that are paying the low wages to immigrants your GOP buddies?)
The “second finger pointing back at us” is the 1960s sexual revolution, which ushered in abortion. Since “free love” was in, the unintended products of our lasciviousness were now in danger. Incredibly, since 1973 we have killed 45 million of our own children. Approximately 12 million or even more of these missing offspring would be in the workforce today. Ironically, this is just about the same number as illegal immigrants in our country. (I knew she would bring up abortion! So Rosie complains that immigrants have a lot of kids, but then she is mad because Americans are killing their babies. Hey Rosie, why don’t you stop sticking your nose in OTHER PEOPLE’S business! Maybe there is a need for more sex education…but of course you are opposed to that, aren’t you?)
Without the Americans needed to do these jobs, we have had to hire others to do the work. Basically, America now has stepchildren, and blending families is not easy. Particularly difficult is the reality that these stepchildren have come with different values and cultural traditions. Sadly, our historical Judeo-Christian values have not been taught in our public schools. (Rosie – you are a Trustee of a PUBLIC SCHOOL. That is why you cannot force your views on the schoolchidren! If you don’t like it, quit and go serve on a Christian school’s board! Besides, you are always telling your party that Latinos have GOP family values. Well, do they or don’t they? Make up your mind! In reality, Latinos are just like most Americans…they embrace many religions, to varying degrees. They are not a homogeneous people!)
Our third mistake is that during the ’60s, we also kicked God out of the public schools. First, in 1963 we took prayer out of our public schools and later in 1980 we took the Ten Commandments out as well. And God said, “OK, you educate them!” So we did. (God actually said that? Rosie, are you on crack? He never said that! Besides, kids in private religious schools are usually the craziest bunch in town!)
The schools fell into confusion, bringing in failed bilingual education methods and asking kids to guess rather than read with “whole language” reading programs. And for a while we threw out the basics like adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in exchange for the fuzzy, new “new math.” After years of declining test scores, and a public rebellion, we are slowly changing our methods, bringing in English instruction and phonics reading. (What public rebellion? You mean the recall of Nativo Lopez? Sure, that worked out. How much has Rosie and her board lost this year due to fraud, corruption and ineptitude? Over $6 million dollars!!! It sounds like we need ANOTHER rebellion!)
Yes, let us as a nation point a finger at illegal immigration, but let us also acknowledge that our out-of-control welfare system, abortion on demand and “godless” education have brought us to this place. (Actually Rosie, you and your buddies Rob Richardson and Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido have created the mess we’re in…by under-investing in libraries and youth programs…and by hiring inept administrators both at City Hall and at the SAUSD! You all need to go!!!)
If we take the logs out of our own eyes, we will see clearly to take the speck out of our neighbor’s eye. Until then, God will continue to have us in a headlock. (On no! Is Rosie saying God is mad at us AGAIN? Is this lady nuts or what?!? Why does Pulido keep endorsing her every time she comes up for reelection!?!)
Actually, the U.S. was built on land stolen from the native Americans, many of whom were murdered by the early Americans…
Look, Art has been taken over by the brain of Howard Zinn! It’s those evil white Europeans fault!
BTW, Art — who did the Spanish steal Mexico from?
Poster 1,
I have acknowledged in past posts that the Spanish killed twenty million native Americans. However, most of them died due to infectious diseases brought by the Spanish. The natives had no immunity, and therefore no protection, against these new diseases.
And it should be noted that the Spanish were able to ally with many native tribes who resented the rule of the bloodthirsty Aztecs. The Spanish could not have prevailed against the Aztec empire without help from the enslaved tribes.
And the Spanish did try to convert the survivors, and did intermarry with them, creating the Mestizo race that is predominant in Mexico.
Many of the Europeans who settled on the U.S. east coast resorted to outright murder and even gave blankets infected with small pox to the natives, on purpose.
So Rosie should not talk about this country being built on the rule of law. It was built with the blood of innocents, plain and simple. And the Revolution was likewise a bloody affair. Although I believe the Revolution was warranted…and it was grounded in democratic principles we cribbed from the French and the ancient Greek philosophers.
Art,
FYI, the native Americans in the California, under WASPs, are sovereign nations and are now owners of the gambling casinos and are the richest Indians in the entire world.
In contrast, the Spanish Indians under Catholics, that includes Mexico, are purest in the world.

Many of the Europeans who settled on the U.S. east coast resorted to outright murder and even gave blankets infected with small pox to the natives, on purpose.
Art, they have these things called history books. You might try reading one.
The small-pox-blanket story is massively exaggerated.
Art,
I should add, the following is Federally Recognized California Tribes.
Please explain how the Mexico use to owned all these tribes?
-Stan
#1,
I believe Spain is in Europe too.The Spanish conquered and influenced the cultures of the natives of Mexico and the Caribbean countries. The Spaniards also explored and left their mark in Florida, and Louisiana.
Art,
You are right. I was in New Orleans in 2005, as my company was involved in various restoration efforts, and I observed a plaque that commemorated the fact that Spain had once owned that area.
And the Spanish in Florida and Louisiana actually helped the Americans during their Revolution. Without their help, the war may well have been lost.
The Spanish Governor of California also sent assistance, both monetary and in the form of supplies, to the American resistance.
People like Rosie have conveniently forgotten the past. She grew up in South America, where her German parents lived, so who knows what sort of early education she had? It almost certainly did not include North American history.
Stanley,
You, like Rosie, did NOT grow up here in the U.S., so your understanding of our history is quite lacking.
Spain settled California, and when Mexico gained independence, California became a Mexican state. It was then known as Alta California.
I would hesitate to say that anyone “owned” the natives. They were and still are a sovereign people. I am pleased that many of the natives in the U.S. have found a way to make money. They suffered for centuries with massive poverty and other problems.
Poster 4,
Where else have we heard the term “massively exaggerated?” Oh right, the President of Iran, when he talks about the Holocaust.
Exaggerated or not, even one instance of it would be fairly damning. Please don’t even try to argue that the native Americans were treated well by the Europeans who settled the American east coast. They were not.
There is a reason why Custer got his a** kicked. He murdered native women and children. And he paid the price.
But overall, the natives were not able to resist. Have you forgotten the Trail of Tears? Or the many other injustices visited on the natives by Americans? I have not.
My great grandmother by the way was a Comanche, from Texas. So while I cannot lay claim to a lot of native blood, I can at least attest to that.
“Exaggerated or not”? Art, is it that hard to be factual and do your homework? No one is saying the Indians weren’t mistreated. But when facts will do to make an argument, why do you so often exaggerate the facts to make your point?
Well you’ve certainly become doctrinaire, Arturo. But your education is sorely lacking in the history department. This rant exposes the the typical male Latino machismo, glorifying their imaginary “Indian” past. And I thought you were an Aztec! Too bad no one noticed the day devoted to a real hero, C. Columbus. Without him, we’d be surrounded by ranting wild Indians. Ooops- we are! Viva Ignorance!
She gives a bad name to the board of ed. Are these also the secret views of member Hernandez – who also happens to be an immigration attorney?
Avila simplifies complex educational questions and research to twist into her own anti-immigrant agenda. 4 generations ago my own relatives came here from southern europe. Our original immigrant family members never learned to speak English. They didn’t need to – they lived in their part of town where everyone else spoke Italian. But their children learned to speak the official language, and so did the next generations. It takes great courage and belief in the American dream to come to the US to raise a family, work and thrive in our society. My family understands it. We understand the bigotry of those who are “already here”. We understand the sacrifices of the very first family members who do such an extrodinary amount of work to help future generations have a fair shot at success.
My children are third generation californians. I am offended by Mrs. Avila’s stingy assessment of those who live among us. I doubt that she’s had to work for much of anything. She doesn’t seem to display much humanity at all. Her viewpoints are stale and are better spouted in places like Minnesota where racial diversity and cooperation is a foreign concept.
Her views absolutely hold back a great number of residents in Santa Ana. She’s a bold racist in brown clothing. One of the most dangerous kind known to people who are trying to get a better life here. Rosie cannot possibly tell who in the community is officially documented and who is not, so she paints with a broad brush. She is one of the prominent reasons why the school district lacks commitment to giving ALL students the best education possible. She’s a disgrace to the community.
She should be replaced with an Italian. 😉
We know what it means to help people who have big dreams and modest means.
We are supporting Joaquin Murrietta
and Zorro for School Board..we saw
them yesterday in Costa Mesa at
the “Dia de la Raza!” We loved
those Mariachis too! Oscar De La
Mesqua does the best ads on TV,
doesn’t he?!
Unchecked, illegal immigration has destroyed Santa Ana and its school system. Plain and simple. Santa Ana is a bright shining example of what happens when you pack poor people like sardines into a community that is bursting at the seams. The city is too far gone to fix and will be forever a miserable place to live. My suggestion is to sell your houses, get as much for them as you can, and move into a nicer, progressive community.
Art
Did you not used to shill for Rosie Avila and endorsed her in all her campaigns? Did you not used to take part in the events where her cronies go to various churches and slander her opponents and Loretta Sanchez? Did you not used to take part in her protests of Lou Correa everytime he had a pro gay rights vote? Don’t just point the finger at Miguel Pulido, point the finger at yourself as well for the mess Rosie has created. You helped put her there.
Rosie Avila is an instrument of keeping alive the institutionalized racism that thrives within the Santa Ana Unified School District. This school board member should not be elected to any public office.
Art –
Rebellion? We need a revolution!
I think most of the comments here have gone off in a tangent. Why don’t we focus on the whack job that is this person? Ever since I met her back in ’98 Avila has been a two faced vindictive liar that speaks out of the both sides of her mouth.
During an election cycle she will show up at community meetings and give everone that crooked evil smile that she so carefully crafted. She tries to fool people into voting for her with her second grade Spanish skills. Once she goes back into her element (ie polar ends of SA) Avila will engage in slanderous venom that vilifies the Spanish speaking community that she just tried to squeeze a few votes from.
Let us all not be fooled from this recent article. This is an attempt to deflect attention from the quagmire both the BOE and the current administration has created under her tenure. Let us keep our eyes on the ball and not re-elect her or any of her allies.
#18
I agree. Let’s stay on topic, however do you believe Rosie’s recent rant is an attempt to deflect attention from the district’s ongoing woes?
If nothing else, Rosie is the perfect poster model for SAUSD term limits.
Let the revolution start in each one of our homes!
Poster 15,
Old news. I quit the GOP this year. You know that but for some damn reason you keep pulling out this tired argument.
I shilled for all the Republicans. But in time I learned how mistaken I was and quit their Central Committee…and their party.
Now I am working hard to undo those past errors. I know how these people think and how they work. I am one of the biggest problems for them now.
I spent my entire adult life in the GOP and will spend the rest of my life making up for it.
So keep bringing up your tired point. It is of no import. You are right…I know Rosie very well. She is a functional illiterate for one thing. I always had to rewrite her diatribes. God only knows who wrote this latest one for her.
Rosie must go…and I will remind our readers of that at every opportunity.
“Did you not used to shill for Rosie Avila and endorsed her in all her campaigns?”
#15,
You are correct Art was one of those who foolishly supported and aided Rosie. He has since realized what a mistake that was and has admitted just that here on this blog many times.
On the other hand Glen Stroud, one of the biggest supporters of the recall of Nativo Lopez, stated on this blog the other day, “Getting rid of one man (Lopez)and replaceing with another man (Richardson)has not made SAUSD a place of higher education. Would I change our involvement if the future were known to us – No.”.
Even though he readily admits that the district has not improved since the recall, he would still do the same thing even knowing what he knows now.
Why don’t you go after him? At least Art admits he made a mistake and is willing to rectify his error by now opposing Rosie.
Because Sean,
That anonymous poster is probably Julie Stroud.
C’mon, Glen & Julie joined the recall fight for one reason only –keep the Griset Elementary School out of the neighborhood. And that’s why Glen would do it all over again. Pulido prevailed and the newly seated school board reversed their vote and abandoned that school site.
The recall was never about the education of the SAUSD student.
Rosie is not the sharpest pencil in the desk, that’s no secret, but Miguel Pulidodv is the primary reason she continues to win her seat. The Chamber of Commerce and the folks north of 17th Street continue to gobble up her vile dribble.
There is a lot of name-calling here, I prefer not to denigrate…especially if they are willing to publish their views in an open forum for consideration.
Any society is affected by its laws and values.
Welfare, abortion, and the rush to eschew God/Christian values have indeed deeply affected our society.
I have seen firsthand many of the effects described by Ms. Avila as a result of these societal changes. Is there anyone who would claim that these changes have made American society stronger and have had no negative repurcussions? Can anyone truly claim that these changes have not exacerbated/encouraged illegal immigration in any way?
Sincerely,
A teacher with 30 years experience currently teaching in SAUSD.
It is too bad this weak-minded lady is representing the children.
She must me defeated.
#24,
“Can anyone truly claim that these changes have not exacerbated/encouraged illegal immigration in any way”.
Can you or anyone else truly claim these changes have? Do you have a scientific study supporting your belief? No, then it is just an opinion. We all have one.
Question to #24:
Why are you still “teaching” at SAUSD?
You seem to be part of the problem here. You are probably responsible for the low test scores from all of your classes. Your superiority complex disables you from effective teaching and true learning from your students.
Do us all a favor here in SAUSD and quit or “retire” or whatever you old relics from the 40’s & 50’s do nowadays.
I surmise the only reason you are still in this district is that you don’t want to get off the gravy train you’ve been riding for so long. Without accountability within SAUSD for well over a decade now, “teachers”(sic) like you are allowed to drain precious resources from the district, shortchange the students and go on living your myopic routines.
Avila’s comments are only true in a vacuum that is her head. Anybody that believes any part of her delusional writings only expose themsleves as individuals with tiny brains and no true thought capacity. Examples she cites cannot be explained by simple linear arithmetic as she tries to fool the reader into believing. Those issues are multilayered in nature and MIGHT be explained through complex quantum algebraic analysis.
I atttended SAUSD schools K-12 and thank my lucky stars tonight I never had you as “teacher”. How do I know? You figure it out. I already have.
The following letter appears in today’s Register and prompts the followng question. Ms. Avila’s family fled Germany, post WWII, to South America. What prompted her family to flee Germany and start up a new life as missionaries?
