Everyone is calling the LA Times and the OC Register and asking them why their home deliveries are not arriving. Today was day 6 and no papers show up again. After wandering the street of San Clemente, we were lucky enough to find two last copies of the OC Register on Del Mar Street at about 11am. For $2 dollars a copy that is. After doing some independent research we were able to find seven other folks at the Ralphs who were experiencing the same issue.
Evidently, ICE and come by and pick up all the delivery people and deported them back to Mexico. Meanwhile, the General Public is being stonewalled by both papers, saying that they are training other to do the job. Whatever is true….the situation is dyer and completely unacceptable. We would love to hear from anyone out there in Santa Ana, Fullerton, Anaheim, Costa Mesa or Huntington Beach that have NOT had any service interruptions of the paper delivery! Something they say is rotten in Denmark!
Ron & Anna: is this true, or truly hyperbole? Hard to say with you sometimes, but quite disturbing.
I always wondered how the economics of home delivery for newspapers worked out in the 21st century…janitorial, hospitality, landscaping, restaurants, and hospital work get a higher profile around here as targets of ICE attention, but I wonder just how much of a role OC police and law enforcement play (theoretically, none at all, pragmatically…hmmm…).
Donovan, you ask some serious questions. We don’t know. The LA Times won’t talk. The OC Reqister refuses to expalin, other than saying they are “training new delivery people”. The rumor we heard, was that various Reporters were making the runs to the few machines left out there in the local cities. We believe it is going to take a Legislative Inquiry. We suggest we all call our folks on Monday and ask them to look into it.
“the situation is dyer”
Changing colors?
*Thanks DZ for your consistent quality analysis. Dyer Rd. Get it? John Travolta – Primary Colors…..Get it?
OK, let’s talk border security: Build that Wall says Rush, Anne Coulter. Heck, we said they in Aces back in the 60’s “Time to Prime the Pump…..Let’s just build an expansion bridge to the moon!” to get the economy moving. They also suggested a Stairway to Heaven as we recall.
DZ, you are such a TA…….just sit back and enjoy the Holiday Season with another cup of Egg Nog! Tell us…..when was the first time you completely lost your sense of humor? Have a date you can remember? Probably in High School when the Study Hall Teacher whacked your hand with a ruler, sending notes to your pal across the aisle!
I lost my sense of humor long after you failed Freshman English. Quality analysis is tough when one has to plow through a snowbank of gibberish.
*Did we say we keep seeing Elvis?
*OK, now we get it…YOU never had a sense of humor. So, we can say with impunity: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and we hope the Year of the Pig treats you REAL good! And one more thing: How many years of Freshman Latin did you take?
Ah, now I get it. You’re trying to communicate in Pig Latin.
*E Pleurisy Homo Erectus…or so we thought!
*Have another piece of Fruit Cake and a nice slice of Mincemeat Pie. A little Chocolate Ice Cream and you should be ready for that Double Egg Nog.
Also, don’t forget the Dark Meat….it’s good for you!
*OK, we are sort of usurping this entry as a Week-End Thread. Maybe Dr. D. and Chairman Vern will give official approval. Anyway, a couple of thought balloons that
should be considered: The Price of a Barrel of Oil is down to around $48 bucks a barrel.
This directly impacts Russian and Venezuela dramatically.. The French Revolt was or is still based on the rising cost of fuel…… It is odd, isn’t it that the price at the pump continues to be about a dollar a gallon too high….even here, with the low prices for oil globally. However, Tariff’s on Steel and Aluminum and Autos is artificially cranking the inflation and the Stock Market understands that people will not pay $100,000 dollars for Chevrolet Malibu or Honda Civic. Yeah, even they get it. The Trade War with China will be lost and The Trumpster will attempt to bring down the Western Economic System through his stupidity and criminal behavior. But what do we know? Our only hope is that the Democrats will hold tough and keep the Government Shut down until Trump says YES to DACA and their IMMEDIATE Citizenship.
We live in Aliso Viejo and our OC Register subscription deliveries stopped 10 Dec 2018. We know our delivery person and she provided excellent service for years, delivering the papers on the run, quite literally. She contacted us to explain that her delivery load was increased yet again on 10 Dec, and she was summarily fired on the spot when she then complained that she would not be able to make all the additional deliveries by the specified deadline. We heard from a private source that other papers owned by the company that owns the Register are also having delivery complaints. Newsprint Rex… Sic transit gloria mundi.
*Thank Richard, you really need to report this stuff to the Local Press. KNBC, KCAL and CBS. We have to believe the amount of lies and misinformation has a darker ultimate cause. Our delivery person was the sweetest on earth too.
Anyway, call it in and demand that the papers (both the LA Times and the OC Register – respond with PIO statement to the Press and a full blown article in both papers.
*OK, it has now been exactly a week and a day since we last rec’d our LA Times or OC Register. There is a definite New Blackout. Why hasn’t the local TV or Radio News stations even mentioned it? Guess, they all figure we are just supposed to go Digital and not look in the actual Newspapers anymore. “Fahreinheit 451” – Ray Bradbury would say!
We have a metaphorical Book Burning going on and this is amazing.
Fullerton – are you getting your newspapers?
Anaheim – are you getting your newspapers?
Santa Ana – are you getting your newspapers?
Irvine – are you getting your newspapers?
Orange – are you getting your newspapers?
Tustin – are you getting your newspapers?
Costa Mesa – are you getting your newspapers?
Huntington Beach – are you getting your newspapers?
Newport Beach – are you getting your newspapers?
Laguna Beach – are you getting your newspapers?
Inquiring minds would like to know!
Winships, we still take the dead tree version of the OC Register and have had no issues with delivery in central Anaheim. However, we have noticed that ever since the new owners took over, our papers are routinely SOAKED through, despite being in plastic bags. The slightest moisture gets into the bag and saturates the paper, even when the top is knotted shut. It is as if the new plastic bags are made of a porous type of material that draws water IN.
And don’t get me started on the lack of real news coverage and the dumping of local coverage. Our “Anaheim Bulletin” now also includes Orange and Fullerton, while continuing to be razor thin.
And of course, the only “news” generated in Anaheim is pro-Disney with a hey-nonny. There are days the Disney “infotainment” section is bigger than the entire newspaper! So whether the paper arrives or not is fairly irrelevant to my intake of actual information, I still buy the dead tree version because the comics are not the same with the electronic subscription.
So now let’s address the obvious; How is it that the OC metropolitan area, which would be its own STATE if located back east, has no regular news organizations that offer comprehensive news coverage of our area? We stopped being a suburb of LA many decades ago, but that memo was missed by corporate news channels and the naming rights of our “local” baseball team.
“So whether the paper arrives or not is fairly irrelevant to my intake of actual information,”
Where does one turn? I’ve still found very few good sources…
And then, there was this-

Let, me guess – somehow it’s Trump’s fault, right ?
Oh, wait, No – The Russians ! – there we go.
*Yeah, we have some late news from the news room. We rec’d our Sunday Edition OC Register today…very late. Still nothing from the LA Times.
So, no one else got their paper? Or did they?
*Miracle……Delivery was restored this morning! How about you?
We got both papers this morning but will keep you informed on
progress in the days to come.
It’s a Festivus Miracle, is what it is! To the Airing of Grievances!
*”They will little note, nor long remember what we say here……” “But the Government, of the people, by the people and for the people,….shall not perish from this earth…unless The Trumpster screws the pooch and kills the stock market forever!”
WOT- Here’s a side of “sustainable” wind energy that caught me by surprise.

Is there a new “Superfund” in the future ?
*NO Newspaper Delivery Today!!! AGAIN!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
*OK, we got our papers today! And so did our neighbors!
*Cyber Warfare attacked Newspapers around the country and finally we got a report in today’s LA Times, Decmeber 31st, California Section, Page One bottom right. Continued on B-6. It seems some UNK Cyber Criminals attacked Tribune and more across the Nation. All the way from California to Florida, which included Chicago too! Probably just our NSA checking out how to bury Trumpster Bad News! This is amazing however, that “someone” is able to disable Newspapers around the country for days and weeks at a time. Scary. Would seem a simple thing to hack the Digital areas a lot easier and so we could have a virtual News Blackout for a long time. Why? They say that Ransom Software was employed. OK, where is Homeland Security now that we need them and why haven’t the Cable News Networks jumped on this with both feet?
No local news reporting either. Nothing we can find in the OC Register. If someone finds an article on this please let everyone know. Happy View Year!
