“School districts from Maryland to Texas are fielding angry complaints from parents opposed to President Barack Obama’s back-to-school address Tuesday – forcing districts to find ways to shield students from the speech as conservative opposition to Obama spills into the nation’s classrooms,” according to Politico.com.
Nutter Republicans are LOSING it over this speech. I agree that Obama’s timing is not great, and I hate to see school time devoted to anything not related directly to education, however is this really such a huge threat to kids? Really?
The nutters have short memories.

I don’t think its as easy as classifying the people objecting to this as “nutters.” Such a characterization is a facile way to disregard an important policy issue.
The key concern is whether it is appropriate for the national government’s executive to solicit children to act a certain way.
Now mind you that these students are first and foremost a captive audience. Additionally, the age group (pre-K6 and K7-12) are certainly formative and not necessarily able to critically think.
Here is what the White House lesson plan suggests: “Students can record important parts of the speech where the President is asking them to do something. Students might think about: What specific job is he asking me to do…Are we able to do what President Obama is asking of us?” The original lesson plan asked children to “write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president.” It has since been changed to say “Write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals.”
Whether the lesson plan was revised or not is somewhat immaterial. What is material is that this is evocotive of leaders of other nations how try to utilize the children for their own political gain. We would object to that, and rightly so. Why is this different?
There aren’t just right wing nuts that are critical of this. The concerning fact is that the President has such a big head that he now thinks of himself as the “parent in chief.”
#1 I think they are upset over the “indoctrination” of the students with the workbook of “what can I do to help the President” Not the fact that the president is addressing the class.
#2 Seriously, out kids in school do all kinds of stuff, all day long that has nothing to do with learning
#3 Its not about doing thing exclusively relating to education. Its about the national government’s executive using a bully pulpit to spout off a nationalistic message that focusses manipulable children to do “what President Obama is asking of us” (in the EXACT words of the fuhrer, er, president’s lesson plan).
The Predisent is elected to lead the nation that elected him.
By definition the elected President is our leader.

Leadership is and has been described as the “process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”.[1] A definition more inclusive of followers comes from Alan Keith of Genentech who said “Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen.”[2]

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a parent, I have the ultimate say in what my child is and is not going to be taught.
I don’t want any political hack from ANY PARTY SPEAKING TO MY KIDS at school regarding what they should do to help the president.
Its bad enough that the boneheads running the schools have no idea what they are doing, we don’t need another idiot trying to screw it up more.
Lets face it, here in CA we have had every wing nut legislator tell us, and then legislate, how and what our kids should learn. Has it improved the minds of little Johnny or Jane? No.
When a politician has to get his image out in front of a bunch of grade schoolers, it can only be to avert out attention from other bigger problems at hand.
This is so ridiculous. Our schools, especially those in the most poor urban and rural areas, give total access to military requiters, but the Commander and Chief cant give some speech about “trying hard and being tenacious”. Please. This is just one more non-issue being blown out of proportions by the nutters and 24 hour news. Despite what happened on election day, this country was clearly not ready of a black president. Is he really so much more to the left than Clinton? NO! Clinton may have been disliked by the conservatives, but Bubba, even with semen running down his pant leg, never made them lose the plot and get hysterical like Obama has.
The great thing about home-schooling is that you only have to buy one book: The Holy Bible. Right Nutters?
John Harwood: Let’s face it – there are a whole lot of stupid people out there. Any parent that refuses to let their child hear the president say stay in school and be successful, is… well, STUPID. In fact those parents might not be fit to BE PARENTS!
LMAO! I love this guy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXq5keti0Cs&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Edailykos%2Ecom%2Fstory%2F2009%2F9%2F4%2F776928%2F%2DJohn%2DHarwood%2Dnails%2Dit%2Don%2DMSNBC%2D%3AThey%2Dare%2Djust%2Dstupid&feature=player_embedded
OMG, a mother is CRYING because the President has a message for little children to stay in school and be successful!

Amazingly stupid people!
On second look:
haha the crying woman’s husband was laughing at first then he was like
“wait is she serious?”
lol look at his face
Those of you who think that the people who object to Obama’s latest marketing scheme are “nutters” should imagine their reactions had Dubya done the same thing. You all would have been screaming your heads off.
I’m a Democrat and I find this really offensive, as I have found Obama’s entire campaign and presidency thus far. I feel like I’m watching an expensive (unfortunately funded by taxpayers) series of advertisements. I’m not buying it.
Pardon, I meant imagine “your” reactions, not “their”. You wouldn’t have wanted Bush indoctrinating children into the cult of Republicans any more than Republicans don’t want Obama indoctrinating children into the cult of Democrats. Have some respect.
baxter, home schooled children are some of the smartest and best-educated kids in the country. They are accepted into the top universities. I’m sure Harvard wouldn’t accept a home-schooled student whose only text was the Bible.
Stop with the outrageous insults. They are very counterproductive.
Even locked up in prison, I was able to decode Obama’s sinister speech and agenda:
