Anaheim citizens, remember the long hot summer of last year? The police shooting of Manuel Diaz, the police shooting of Joel Acevedo the following night, the dozen or so other police shootings of the previous year or two, the riot of July 24, all the Sunday protests outside the police station following that, the police’s militarized response to all that?
Well, has there been any change since then? Are they even listening? And what exactly do we all want anyway?
Please join us tonight at 7 as we SHOW UP to discuss all these questions, at St. Anthony Claret Church!
Interesting colors for the flier there.
The red and black.
Colors that folks will be wearing to the Santa Ana city council as well tonight. to protest participation with federal Secure Communities program. .

Who went? What happened?
Adam and Gabriel have reports:

There: Channel 7, all the usual suspects. Not there: The Mayor (surprisingly) or anyone else from the council (unsurprisingly); any cops; any young latino males as Gabriel mentioned.
Some there expressed impatience and frustration and wondered what would come of the event; then again, that was almost the theme of the thing.
ABC reported cops were NOT invited..is this true Vern?
Everyone was invited, and cops usually show up at these sorts of things. If you or ABC are suggesting they were somehow banned or discouraged from attending, you’re wrong.
Some of us WERE thinking in retrospect that new chief Quezada should have been specifically invited, along with some of the young people, mostly male who’ve been suffering harassment and profiling recently.
I always understood, in advance, that APD would not be there and they weren’t.
clarification: would not be there formally as part of the event.
