Insurance hero Jane Kim comes to Anaheim’s Little Arabia Friday!

Why do they say that the race for Insurance Commissioner is the “sexiest race in California this year?”

Because every other statewide race is between a Democrat promising to continue doing exactly what they or their predecessor did the last 4, 8, 12 years while their Republican opponent promises to unleash some kind of chaos, larceny or devastation.

WHEREAS, in the Insurance Commissioner race and that race alone, we have the possibility of real, structural change, change that will move California’s people forward, make things better and easier for all of us. If Jane Kim wins.

Big money has its way too often in this state, with both Parties. And industries like the $3.3 TRILLION Insurance industry – whether homeowner, disaster, automobile – continues to reap billions in profit ($170B net last year) off regular Californians, and hundreds of millions in CEO pay, while denying coverage and claims whenever possible. This is not fair or sustainable.

As Insurance Commissioner, Jane Kim will fight to establish a single-payer disaster insurance system, as has worked well in Europe and New Zealand, eliminating the profit motive and guaranteeing coverage AND affordability.

This is California. We can do this. And this is where the rest of the nation looks for inspiration, and to see what is possible.

Jane’s visionary plans (some of which she’ll be able to implement if elected, some of which will require a co-operative legislature and governor, but she will push hard for those) INCLUDE:

  • Creating a single-payer disaster insurance program FOR ALL (based on European and New Zealand models.) This particularly will need legislation but it will be her priority as IC to fight for it..
  • Establishing and enforcing minimum loss ratio standards
  • Creating a public auto insurance option.
  • Enforcing minimum coverage standards
  • Requiring 6-month required notice for ending or changing your plan
  • Closing the loophole allowing carriers to charge different auto insurance rates depending on where you work or live
  • Charging interest on delayed claims, to discourage delay, and requiring disaster survivors to be paid immediately
  • A favorite: her ambitious MEDICARE FOR KIDS program, which is legislation she would push. Presently, regulation of health and other types of insurance is bifurcated in California – she would strive to end that bifurcation.
  • Pursue legislation to prohibit insurers from raising your premiums, dropping coverage, or refusing renewal for filing a claim, inquiring about a claim, or experiencing a no-fault loss

And Jane has a record of GETTING SHIT DONE. In her 8 years as San Francisco Supervisor, she

  • made San Francisco the only city in the nation to provide tuition-free Community College for all residents,
  • enacted the nation’s strongest minimum wage law,
  • established a medical respite shelter for aging and sick homeless residents,
  • led the single largest investment any U.S. city has made toward childcare,
  • passed a tax on multimillion-dollar commercial real estate that now raises over $140 million annually to make universal affordable childcare a reality.
  • crafted the nation’s most robust tenant-protection ordinance to prevent unjust evictions
  • and led, and won the fight to raise the city’s affordable housing mandate from 12% to 25%, and secured an unprecedented 40% requirement in three major development projects within her district.. .

Most importantly of all, she PLAYED BASS in an all-female indie band named “Strangely.” This is a surefire sign that she is a good person. Well, that and the fact that she’s endorsed by America’s Senator Bernie Sanders. (And many others.) So, when you vote, which should be soon, you really should

VOTE FOR JANE KIM!

But that’s not enough!

Jane is coming to Anaheim’s Little Arabia Restaurant at 5:30 tomorrow (that’s Friday Oct. 16) and we should all be there. This event is hosted by:

  • The proudly unchartered Anaheim Democrats Club; AND
  • the Iranian-American Democrats of California. .

And SPEAKERS WILL INCLUDE:

  • HB progressive superstar candidate Chris Kluwe;
  • Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento;
  • Long Beach State Senator Lena Gonzalez;
  • and progressive Anaheim hero Dr. Jose Moreno!

And I’ll be playing the piano before & after (and hopefully get Jane to join in with her bass maybe)
