OC sheriffs kill an unresisting Cristobal Solano, 2017
From our friends at the ACLU Orange County:
Rally with impacted families, Orange County Racial Justice Collaborative, and the ACLU of Southern California at the OC Board of Supervisors meeting to demand justice for deaths in OC jails. The rally comes after the most recent death in OCSD custody — on May 23, Anthony Aceves was found “unresponsive” in his cell at the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange according to an OCSD spokesperson. Anthony’s family has received little to no information about his death.
There is a highly disturbing history of deaths in O.C. jails. Early this month, a grand jury issued a study, “‘The Silent Killer’ Hypertension in Orange County’s Intake and Release Center,” that found 15 people who died in custody showed evidence of prior cardiovascular history. Last year a grand jury issued a study, “Preventable Deaths in Orange County Jails,” that found 44% of deaths in the jails from 2014 to 2017 could have been prevented by timely and adequate medical care.
Join us to demand transparency and accountability alongside families who have lost loved ones in OC jails.
