When OC GOP Chairman Scott Baugh announced this week that OC Weekly investigative reporter R. Scott Moxely had lied, in an article about Baugh and his allegedly “no-bid” Orange County lobbying contract, I figured it wouldn’t be long before Moxley struck back. Well, he did so today, and it was a devastating rip not just on Baugh but also on his lackey Matt “Jerbal” Cunningham, the editor of the Red County blog and a paid political consultant in his own right.
Let’s start with a description of Cunningham, courtesy of Moxley’s latest post, “Cunningham is known to adopt fake names and write glowingly about himself in the third person, is arguably OC’s most shameless political hack. His apparent self-appointed daily task is to protect and coddle Baugh and the inner circle that runs the Orange County Republican Party…There is value, if unintended, in Cunningham’s robotic regurgitations: you read him and you know exactly where Baugh stands on a particular point.”
Ouch!
Moxley then brings up the fact that first angered Cunningham a few years ago by exposing how Jeffrey Ray Nielsen–one of Baugh’s best friends and a congressional aide to Congressman Dana Rohrabacher–had a relentless history of targeting 7th and 8th grade boys for sex–a point ultimately confirmed by Nielsen’s conviction and three-year trip to the slammer. Before the sex crimes conviction, pro-Baugh and Nielsen sources pathetically attempted to drive Moxley away from the story by claiming that he had worked with one of the victims to blackmail an innocent Nielsen. As we all know, Cunningham later exposed the names of a number of victims of molestation by Catholic priests, while Jerbal was praising Monsignor John Urell, who had covered up the molestations.
Moxley then builds a hell of a case for his previous reporting, that Baugh has been able to use his ties with the Republicans on the OC Board of Supervisors to score a huge consulting contract. What this boils down to is Baugh saying that his law firm does not benefit from the contract. That is true, it doesn’t. But as Moxley makes clear, with plenty of evidence to support his contention, Baugh’s employer, Platinum Advisors, does make a mint of the OC lobbying contract. And guess who their lobbyist is?
As one might expect, Jerbal has been busy ripping Moxley over at his Red County blog. Moxley however pops poor Jerbal’s little red balloon, repeatedly.
Moxley ends his post by bringing up the fact that Baugh has not audited the OC GOP’s finances for the past six years, which is a violation of their own rules, which call for two year audits.
Baugh and Jerbal are shameless – and Moxley has exposed them once again. Don’t forget that both of these scumbags also shilled for disgraced former OC Sheriff Mike Carona too…

Vern,
Are there any honest, upstanding Republicans in the Orange County upper ranks? Any that are waiting in the wings? I am very disheartened with the OC Republican party…could use some hope…
You’re asking me? This ain’t my article. But I can think of several Republicans off hand who I’d call honest and upstanding, even if I totally disagree with a lot of their ideas.
To mind comes: Supervisor John Moorlach. (Jury’s still out on Shawn Nelson who has just hired Phil Greer and hasn’t moved against John Williams yet.) Todd Spitzer I trust, and he’ll be a Supe again in 2012 (taking Bill Campbell’s seat.) I’d call Costa Mesa Councilwoman Wendy Leece “honest and upstanding” despite being a bit of a religious fanatic, wrong on Prop 23, and sometimes too easily swayed by the apes on the dais with her. But I guess we’re already out of the “upper ranks” of the OC.
I’m sure people here will have fun thinking of other examples, some of which may cause some dispute. Assemblyman Jim Silva, the only OC legislator to vote against selling the Fairgrounds – for quite sensible reasons. People think the world of Bruce Whitaker, up in Fullerton. You can’t find a more honest upstanding Republican than HB council candidate Blair Farley, former CM Mayor Sandy Genis, Newport Beach activist Allan Beek… okay, now we’re way off the “upper ranks” though.
I just noticed you included “waiting in the wings.” So let me add one of our occasional bloggers here, a young guy who’s running for Irvine City Council. Damn – what’s his name? Something like Stephen Moore…
Alpay and McNichols of the Capistrano Unified Chldren First slate. As far as I know John Leos in Anaheim couldn’t be too bad, if Lou and Jose support him.
We Democrats do want a more honest and less socially extreme Republican party we can deal with over honest differences in governing philosophy. Well… except it’s also kind of fun to watch the GOP self-destruct. I’m schizo that way.
Art, Cunningham shot Moxley’s story so full of holes it isn’t even funny. And he shredded Moxley’s second post today. Too bad you aren’t honest enough to admit that, art.
Yeah, Cunningham is a really honest and upstanding guy…I believe anything that he says…NOT!
I don’t think that we all have to believe in each other’s ideologies all the time, I would just like someone in my party that actually has a moral foothold.
Anyone who believes Matt on anything is deluded at best, but most likely lacking a brain.
Everything that guy writes or says is a carefully crafted half-truth.
P.S. my friend Bruce Whitaker DID NOT kill and eat Cletus’ dog.
The fact that you keep bringing that up, though… gives one pause. They say where there’s smoke there’s fire.
I had forgotten to mention that the signs point to Roland Chi being the guilty party there. Cletus – very unreliable from his years of glue-sniffing – is certain that Bruce was the guilty party, and showed me all kinds of threatening handwritten letters that purported to be from Bruce – but those were scrawled in a childlike handwriting, and it does turn out from my investigations that Cletus’ dog was last seen behind Roland’s restaurant. The Fullerton PD is now running forensics on those “Bruce” notes to see if he may have been framed by his future political rival. Crazy Cletus refuses to believe any alternate explanation though, and I can’t really be sure he won’t be back here again with his wild accusations. Especially if you Fullerton folks keep bringing this up.
The Fullerton PD may not be wholly reliable. Their union has endorsed Roland Chi.
Was Cletus’ dog palmed off on unsuspecting buyers as tainted shrimp? Who knows?
P.S. I just busted Cunningham for posting comments on my blog under an alias again. A credibility shot right in the lower abdominal area.
I left out the grisliest part of my investigation, because it was before 10pm and I didn’t want any kids to read it.
But did you hear where the dog’s charred remains were found – on Bruce’s front lawn, with a scribbled crayon note attached, reading, chillingly: “Thanx Cletus. Yummy dog. Yum yum. BRUCE W.”
It just doesn’t seem credible to me that a respected elder statesman, known to be an expert on eminent domain, would behave in that fashion. The framed-by-Roland story makes much more sense. But now you’ve got me worried about the impartiality of the Fullerton PD. Let’s see what they come up with anyway. What they discover COULD make them change their endorsement, you know.
I heard that tale. The only problem is that it is totally false. Those “charred remains” were tested and turned out to be half eaten pieces of McRib sandwiches. You’ll notice that there were no bones discovered at the site.
Also, Bruce is very literate and would never use an “x” at the end of “thank.”
You are suggesting the dog may still be alive somewhere? It is cruel to put Cletus on an emotional roller coaster like this before we can be sure.
I don’t care if that dog is dead or alive, and Cletus can go to Hell.
If anybody ate that dog it was Cletus himself. It has already been established that during last winter the crick froze over and Cletus’ still done popped its rivets. And nobody has seen that dog since last November.
Stop trying to turn Cletus into a victim!
Tony Bushala yer a yellow basterd. Accusin a man of etting his own dog. I hope that never happens to you, to see your burnd up dogs skelton on someones lawn with a note “Yummy dog Tony, Yum Yum! Bruce W.” No I DO hope that happens to you. You deserv it. You Tony have the hart of a flee. Tell yer pal Bruce he aint herd the last of Cletus.
And Vern Nelson yer wrong to. I thot i cud trust you. Roland Chi dint do it. Roland is a better man than any of you guys. He luvd my dog. All the notes from Bruce he handed me with tears in his eyes. Roland gave me moonshin and he tole me so many storys about Bruce yer head would spin. Mebbe I otta start sayin more of what I know.
Vote Roland Chi he will NOT kill or eat yer dog.
CLETUS.
Yur welkomb to oppose Bruce W but don’t bark up a tree in d process
N u is an expurt on Tony’s heart? where Utend school anyhows dat make U n expurt?
Art,
You (and apparently Moxley) missed the part where Baugh terminated his lobbying efforts with Platinum at the end of 2007, as reported by the California Secretary of State: http://cal-access.sos.ca.gov/Lobbying/Lobbyists/Detail.aspx?id=1241855&session=2007
He is still listed on their website as their OC lobbyist.
So what Art? You’re still on SmartVoter as a candidate for Santa AnanCity Council. Moxley blew it because he stooped to Art Pedroza standards of evidence
How can Bushala criticize anyone for posting under an alias? He does it all day long!
Does Baugh, as Chairman of the OC Republican Party, and a member of the Central Committee not have to file any type of 700 forms? How about the firm Platinum Advisors – don’t they have to register their lobbyists? I hope Moxley keeps digging. If this is true, then all of the currently Board of Supervisors (including the new turncoat Nelson) need to be recalled and investigated by the AG!
