Do you recognize any high profile Republican in this picture with Irvine Mayor Sukhee Kang? Look closer. Yep – that’s Michelle Steel, the Republican member of the State Board of Equalization who is married to former CRP Chairman Shawn Steel.
This picture has been printed in 3 major Korean newspapers, according to one of our pajaritos. Apparently Steel was asked by the media photographer and reporter to take the picture, and according to the article “ Michelle Steel upon the request by the attendees took the picture with Mayor Kang without any hesitation and with a smile,” said the reporter..
The Los Angeles Korea Daily reported that Michelle Steel was the keynote speaker at this event and that she told the guests “We MUST help Mayor Kang for his RE-Election.”
I am told that the picture has been printed in 3 major newspapers. The photo shows Mayor Kang and Michelle Park and other supporters shouting “Yes We Can” with BIG Smiles standing in front of the Banner”Sukhee Kang, for Mayor 2010”.
A reporter at the LA Korea Daily wrote “Michelle Steel came as a guest keynote speaker and added strength to the fundraiser event for Mayor Sukhee Kang.”
The Korea Times Reports that the Fundraiser Party took place at the house of Byung Chul Park, the CEO of Everest, on September 21, 2009 at 6:30 PM. About 100 guests attended the event including Byung Chul Park, Jin Jung…etc.
The same article stated that Steel also asked the attendees to give campaign funds and added “Regardless of the party you belong to, he is a Korean who will work for community.”
Isn’t that interesting? When Latinos say stuff like that they are accused of being racist…
I don’t see any diversity, that’s one thing I see…they probably all attend the same church and I’ll bet you anything that church doesn’t even have one person of another race..
They all go to Bethel Korean. This is out of control! Sukhee can’t even raise money from his own constituents.
Is Steele still a Republican?
Well let’s just do away with parties then, if you cannot cross the line to support someone you beleive in without being tossed out, what good is our democracy. A little less division might just be a good thing.
Since the party took place at a private home why would there be a requirement to invite anyone other than friends and family. If your circle of friends happens to look more like you than people of another background so be it. An event that is open to the public would likely be more diverse.
Lots of churches have very little diversity, does yours?
And why does it matter?
I think it matters…Obama had more than just african american votes.
Obama did, I was one of them.
But I did not ask about the government or a public institution which all should reflect the community as a whole in their make up.
I was talking about a church or a private party.
1st it is nobodys business who attends a private fundraiser other than it has to be disclosed who donated.
And we have seperation of Church and State or so we say. Therefore, it is of no public interest who goes to what church.
If we say that there should not be prayer in Schools or indications of faith in Government Buildings, then it has to work both ways, we have nothing to say at all about the make-up of a congregation of a church.
Mi Estimado Patito, (I lied…)
Your pajarititos must speak damn good Korean to kindly translate the Korean language articles to be used for your smear article. Who the heck could it be? Estebanito de Irvine? Who mumbles and jumbles during the council meeting, while going around the circle over and over? One who begged for Michelle’s endorsement and fundraising? It’s quite pathetic…this pajarito was at the event and Michelle simply restated many Korean Americans’ desire that KAs should have more representation in politics commensurate with KA’s success in business and education.
Anything wrong with “si se puede” por Coreanos? As for the pajarito of Korean kind, PATHETIC and INGRATE for all the help he got from Michelle who is totally super, duper, dedicated public servant. Sukhee Kang and Michelle Park Steel has been friends for mucho years, having worked hard for Korean American community as we are short on immigrant years here, and much work needed to be done to bring many newly arrived to being active citizens. So she applauded, encouraged Sukhee’s effort; do you think for one second she would turn a Dem> Heck not with Shawn Steel in that household…Patito, you really disappointed me with this dumb effort…and down with pajarito Coreano Choi (ooops, strike that…) I mean Esteban…you are a marked man for de-election if I have my way…
Now with Mr. Rex and C-mo, both of you are a bit behind…there are number of mega churches in Korean community even much bigger than Bethel where the pajarito Coreano attends. The service is conducted in Korean language, so these relatively recent immigrants can worship and actually understand the Pastor’s sermon…now the pastors’ sermons are boring enough (not withstanding Calvary Chapel), but try it in a language that you are not 100% versed!! But all this is moot if you carry xenophobic DNA…you will find other reasons to moan and bitch about Asian Americans…By the way, every one of these churches will welcome you Rex…why don’t you be a trooper and break that color barrier? You probably don’t even go to church…
Good luck to Sukhee Kang and Michelle Park Steel…we need more of you…no party has monopoly on good people…and certainly every ethnic community has its share of rat pajarititos, including Korean community…or if he ain’t Korean, he must be tri-lingual…(though not likely…)
