Under new Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, Orange County increasingly resembles East Germany under the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit (Ministry for State Security), or Stasi.
Like the Stasi, Hutchens has violated essential rights, such as spying on supervisors, intimidating citizens, and violating the Second Amendment “right of the people to keep and bear arms.”
Her abuses demand an immediate recall.
The charges against her:
People that are intimidated by cops shouldn’t be allowed concealed weapons permits – the can’t be trusted to not start shooting at anyone and anything if confronted by some real bad characters.
Does anybody think that Corona’s concealed weapons / civilian badges in exchange for contributions should continue as is? No? Well then give the new Sheriff a break willya?
Lets do better by throwing the bums out before they become indicted but lets not become so reactionary that we throw somebody out before we know if we can work with them. If the problem with the cameras continue then we might need to do something. Right now I’m happy with blowing the whistle and shining the light of truth on the issues. That alone might clear things up. If it doesnt then we can throw the bums out.
I dont thinnk you can recall an appointed official. You may want to look into the legal standing and process of recalling someone who was not elected by popular vote.
I hope that the OC Board of Supervisors has learned that to bow to the pressure of the Sheriff’s union is a very bad idea.
Paul Walters should have been named Sheriff – he would have put the OC Jail system straight. That is what the OC Sheriff’s union is afraid of.
Before you jump me Art Pedroza – you should tour the Santa Ana jail.
To #3: She was appointed, but to fill an elected position. She’s running for re-election, and I hear she already has raised $75,000 for re-election. So she can be recalled.
For example, if Gov. Arnold were appointed to be Obama’s Secretary of the Department of Bodybuilding, Lt. Gov. Garamendi would become governor — and could be recalled.
A year ago, there were calls that Mike Carona should be recalled, but he quit instead. See this:

What puzzles me, John, is why don’t you gun-toters just wear that ol’ popgun like a man, right out on your hip where everyone can see it. Practice your quick-draw, like Bill Hickock. That’d scare the begeezus outta evil-doers, and you don’t need a concealed weapons permit for that. Why do you need to play hide-‘n-seek with your pistol…so you can surprize people? I’m 100% with the Sheriff. I wanna see that gun so I can steer well away from you.
#6 Jesus, that did scare the hell out of me.
Why?
Present a viable explaination and perhaps yourincredible request would garner more than an eye roll.
It is utterly frightening to me to see rumor and innuendo fettered about so recklessly. I’m with you Anonyms, Larry and SAHS. Give the woman a freakin’ break. There is hardly enough information here upon which to base an opinion to recall her. What’s with the hysteria? Forget about Orwell! John, you make me feel like I’m living in Salem …
She’s making up laws as she goes, that’s wrong and scary, I say start the recall process.
She’s breaking the law, isn’t that enough #9?
#9 Swetelle:
Hmmm. I’m just a guy with a little Blog, who also blogs here at the great OrangeJuiceBlog.com. I have no power but the truth. Sheriff Hutchens has hundreds of sheriffs under her, armed to the teeth, surveillance cameras, and the vast power of the Federal Government behind her, especially its police-state Department of Heimat Security.
And little ol’ powerless me makes you feel like you’re living in Salem during the Witch Trials?
#6 SAHS teacher:
Great idea. I wish we could do it. But in Police State America, if you do that, you end up dead, like the Black Panthers:

Dear No’s 11 & 12,
Ordinarily when one breaks the law, they are charged with a crime. That has not occurred. In order to be charged, sufficient evidence has to be presented to a prosecutor so it can be determined the prosecutor is ethically filing charges that can be proven. That has not occurred. Were that to occur, I would hope, being that we live in America and all, that we would then rely upon the wisdom of the judge/jury to render an appropriate verdict. That has not occurred.
So yes, John, it would seem we are operating on a Salem level of intelligence and information upon which to levy some serious allegations. If she is charged and convicted of these crimes you purport have occurred, I will gladly retract my statement. In my silly, naive faith in justice, would merely ask that folks exhibit some healthy cynicsm in accepting these allegations as the truth … especially in such a politically volatile environment!
Just let me know where I can sign a recall petition. She got the appointment because of pure politics and not skill, leadership or experience. The most relevant bit of information — that she panicked and shot someone — didn’t emerge until after she was appointed. Her basic instincts were a strong disqualifing factor, had anyone known. Her short tenure has demonstrated she’s not fit to serve.
Perhaps a recall movement should include the three genius Supervisors who voted her into the job. The buck should stop there.
John,
I agree. Hutchens needs to go!
Wonder if the low percentage of petition signatures is needed in the Sheriff’s recalls as was with the recall of Anaheim School Board member Harold Martin.
Anaheim High school board member Martin, like sheriff Hutchens was appointed and the number of signature required to rescind the appointment was a surprisingly very low percentage.
Anybody knowing this is the case here?
@#14, Swetelle:
Public servants serve at our pleasure. We can remove them anytime we want to, whether or not they committed an actual crime, either through elections or recalls. Gov. Gray Davis was recalled in 2003, not for any crime, but for being an incompetent who helped wreck the state.
I didn’t say that Hutchens committed any actual crimes, only a vast abuse of her office and violations of the Bill of Rights. That’s reason enough for her to go. Police need to respect the rights of citizens. If not, they should be fired by the people they failed to serve, but instead abused.
At Tusday night’s board of supervisors meeting, the supes effectively “fired” her from maintaining security at their meetings. Too bad they can’t fire her from her job. That’s why the citizens themselves need to…
Recall Hutchens.
One more thing:
We need more impeachments of presidents and other federal officials, more recalls of state and local officials, more firings of government hacks.
Government has far too much power and violates our rights far too often. Its minions need to be kept in line by sending them back to the private sector.
So: Impeach Obama, recall Schwarzenegger, recall Hutchens.
(And in case you’re wondering, for 8 years I said — over and over — impeach Bush.)
Pedroza was a big Hutchens fan when she was appointed, now his biggest name writer to date doesn’t like her for reasons that amount to her doing her job: cleaning up after Carona, and so he’s crying recall. Really? The train wreck continues.
