New York “Gov. David A. Paterson has selected Representative Kirsten Gillibrand, a 42-year-old congresswoman from upstate who is known for bold political moves and centrist policy positions, to fill the United States Senate seat vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton, according to a person who spoke to the governor early Friday,” according to the New York Times.
Gillibrand is a conservative Democrat who has been endorsed by the NRA.
“Within the high school gossip circle that is New York’s congressional delegation, Kirsten Gillibrand’s nickname is “Tracy Flick” — a not-so-flattering reference to the over-eager, blonde, bubbly and viciously competitive Reese Witherspoon character from “Election,” according to Politico.com.
“Brian Walsh, a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, issued a statement Friday suggesting her selection “has angered the left-wing and created a real schism in the Democrat Party,” according to Politico.com.
How ironic. The Democrats wanted Caroline Kennedy. Instead they got a conservative who is for gun rights. I cannot imagine this is going to go over well with the Democrats in New York.
Caroline Kennedy, like Sarah Palin, was simply not ready for prime time. Pretty, likable women who have ambitions and little else.
She was horrid in question and answer sessions. Just about the only things she had going for her were her famous name and her airs of entitlement when it came to the state senate seat vacated by Hillary Clinton.
She seemed determined to try and circumvent the whole vetting process by the NY govenor. I am glad the govenor got to select someone qualified from his vetting process.
An NRA endorsement requires far more than just being for reasonable gun rights, but pretty much requires towing their, sometimes extreme, line on virtually every vote and statement.
I am from a family of gun owners and sportsmen. My late father a lifelong NRA was strongly opposed to most any form of registration. I thought I could get reasonable score from the NRA based upon what I thought were my very strong, yet rational, views on gun rights … found out they were far from enough for that organization.
