There were a total of three more shooting incidents in Santa Ana this weekend, according to the O.C. Register. Four incidents if you include the one at Original Mike’s that the Register is not yet reporting about. Thomas Gordon wrote on this blog about the incidents near Mater Dei and at Original Mike’s.
A 48 year old was shot in his home on the 3600 block of W. Crystal Lane, which I believe is in Ward 5, which is represented by Council Member Claudia Alvarez, but it might be in Ward 6. It is too close to call. Ward 6 is represented by Council Member Sal Tinajero.
The last incident involved a 23 year old “man found with a gunshot wound in front of an apartment complex on the 1000 block of North Parton Street,” according to the O.C. Register.
This incident was in Ward 2, which is represented by Council Member Michele Martinez.
Do any of the Santa Ana City Council Members still want to say that crime is decreasing? Can we now expect Council Members Alvarez and Tinajero to join their colleague, David Benavides, on the Public Safety Committee, in voting FOR a gang study?
A gang “study”??? What the heck is that going to tell you? Santa Ana has gangs…the study won’t change that…I say spend your money on new center medians and other road work.
Dear Art/Thomas,
With extended term limits passed S.A. councilmembers will be able to raise even more campaign money (becomes a better long term investment for those who give) it seems it will be impossible for anyone to beat them. Don’t you agree?
#1,
Nowhere in industry, or in governance, will you find professionals trying to tackle problems without first at least trying to grasp their parameters. Do you think that Coach Phil Jackson will give his team a week off and then not even practice before the Lakers take on the Nuggets this week? No way! They will watch endless game film, practice, practice and practice, and they will talk to their scouts and other industry pros about what to expect from the Nuggets.
So too must the SA City Council hire professionals to find out the full scope of the gang problem in our city, including the underlying history, recent trends, contributing factors, etc.
The reason Pulido and his cartel don’t want a gang study is simple. Such a study will no doubt reveal that Pulido and company have utterly failed Santa Ana. That is something that Pulido does not want us to find out…
#2,
Yep. No one even wants to try to take out the Council Members. It is a seriously bad situation. All we can do is report what these loathsome politicians are up to…
Art,
I had not heard about the 3600 W. Crystal Ln incident. It is in ward 6 between Harbor and the river. Just across Harbor from where I live. Please email me any details you have.
Carl,
All I know is what the Register reported. Maybe Thomas will be able to get more information.
After a weekend as bloody as the one we just had, I wonder if our Mayor and City Council will finally start being honest about the INCREASE in crime in Santa Ana? I doubt it…
No Art, all it means is that this mayor and council will claim that crime was down a zillion percent but taking into account the recent incident, that crime is still lower than that in Wichita or New York City
Quit whining about the gang study.
Several have been done already and no one is confused about the cause of gang activity in Santa Ana.
Spend the money where it matters; investigating and locking the dirtbags up.
“Total of four shooting incidents in Santa Ana this weekend”
Maybe 5 up to this moment:
About 9:22AM I was taking my daughter to SA College north bound by Fairview pass the McFadden was clear.
On the way back about 9:33AM, in north bound lain cross the median, pass the McFadden, I have seen two firetrucks and four police cruisers, all flashing lights.
Doing my best in rubbernecking, I have seen head shaved young Hispanic face down on the sidewalk, motionless, not handcuffed, surrounded by about 6 cops and some firemen just standing and looking down.
No apparent traffic accident! This happen within about 10 min.
It look to me like a sooting or a heart attack victim.
What do you think of L.A.’s program?

What has set off the gang wars? Are they losing there influence?
The city needs to keep up the pressure by encouraging more after school programs, expanding the anti-gang injunctions and finding a way to provide youth employment.
Maybe the local churches can do some Dr. King type walks in the communities.
Hire more police. Get your “gang study” from members of the SAPD Gang Unit. Crack down on quality of life crimes. Code enforcement, traffic enforcement, etc. Put an ICE agent in the jail. Get aggressive about turning SanTana around, from an illegal alien sanctuary city where a culture of impunity runs wild to a community where graffitti is unwelcome, gang-bangers are outnumbered, and people respect the law and care about their city.
It’s simple, Art. You just don’t have a clue.
It seems Santa Ana is regressing to the 1980’s and 1990’s. What a mess it was back then with all the gangbangers killing each other and innocent people. I would imagine what’s left of a middle class in Santa Ana will soon start fleeing from the City. I’m packing my bags.
And of course, according to Thomas and Art, the City Council is so powerful that they could just WAVE THEIR HANDS and the gang problem would be gone. People can throw a lot of money at it too, but it still doesn’t cure the social ills that plague a community. It is not the council’s fault that young people choose gangs over family, or that gang members choose to have fun while killing. It is the fault of the COMMUNITY – mothers and fathers, grandparents and friends. A city can police and raid and force compliance only so much – it is up to the community to speak out. Turn people in, defend their territory from it, keep their kids safe and on the straight and narrow. Where do you get off saying that the “City” is responsible for the social ills of aan area??? It makes me mad that the parents of these kids, along with people like you, allow these kids to use government as a scapegoat for all their problems. Get off it already!!! Focus your anger at the people who DO the crimes and their own personal responsibility in deciding to do them.
