The Friends of the Santa Ana Public Library is having a Children and Young Adult Book Sale on Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5, at the Main Library, located at 26 Civic Center Plaza, on the second floor in Meeting Room A.
Items on sale will include books, videos, books-on-tape and other items for only 10
Art, this is kind of an April fools because only SA residents get Free parking everyone else can not get their ticket validated.
Last time I was at the Library this is what I was told.
Why is SA selling books? Art, don’t you want MORE libraries and MORE books? The city certainly does need them.

This is a used book sale, Sarah. Older books and obsolete VHS tapes and cassettes have been replaced by new books and CD media, and then the old ones are sold to raise funds for the library.
Just an observation BUT if they are selling books for .10 cents…how the helk are they gonna make any money. Why dont they just call it a Library Garage Sale?

Why not keep the materials and put the new books in some new libraries? Oh wait, because there is no money to build them. Silly me. I can’t imagine this sale to be particularly profitable so really, what’s the point?

Umm books. They get thrashed at libraries, thousands of worn and tattered books are donated this is what libraries sell. A little research goes a long way, what are u guys reading , just blogs? You might check out the Orange city library bookstore, quite amazing.

It’s called recycling.
Instead of just dumping old books and obsolete VHS, they make them available to the community super cheap, so they can get books to the hands of the most needy.
This sale is run by volunteers, so it doesn’t cost the library to do this, and it frees up much needed space for new books and program space.
Santa Ana is not the only city doing a library sale this weekend. I think Westminster is also, and most cities do this on a regular basis to purge old stock and make room for new, and get a few extra bucks for library programs.
Instead of hating, and being defeatist by saying this doesn’t make a difference, go buy some books and contribute to the cause.
Feel free to pay a few bucks extra if you think the prices are too cheap. I’m sure any contribution would be gratefully received.
My point was to point out the disparity between a lack of libraries and 10 cent books.
And you could have just suggested making a donation without calling me a hater, no?
