Gustavo Arellano, over at the OC Weekly’s Navel Gazing Blog, has discovered something very interesting about Orange County. Apparently it was founded by a member of the KKK! Click here to read Gustavo’s post.
The Klansman in question was Dr. Henry William Head, who served in the State Assembly. Head was apparently a popular physician in Santa Ana. I am sure this will warm the hearts of the Minutemen and their allies. Will Santa Ana’s Rosie Avila seize on this in her congressional race against Loretta Sanchez?
“the infamous Minuteman who was appointed to the Santa Ana Public Library Board by our Mayor, Miguel Pulido”
Pedroza this is a non-issue. You repeat this in every post whether it applies or not. You went apesh*t over the removal of Thomas Gordon but demand the removal of Moreno. Isn’t that a double standard?
Pulido may be a hypocrite, but so are you.
Nobody cares about this Pedroza no matter how many times you repeat it. You are not considered a leader in our community so your opinion falls on deaf ears.
I am no fan of Pulido or Moreno, but your constant harping on this only causes folks to stop listening. Time to move on already. His ties to Lupe Moreno will not damage him.
For the record you should disclose your ties to Lupe as well.
(lack of) common sense,
Well, Thomas was an effective commissioner who does not hate the majority of our local population. Big difference!
As for my past, it is an open book. All of it is right here on this blog. Yes, I was a Reep. Yes I did work with both Lupe and Rosie before on various elections. And yes I have repudiated them and their party. I am still waiting for Pulido to repudiate them as well. Most likely will never happen as long as you Dems keep giving Pulido a free pass…
“Thomas was an effective commissioner”
Do you have anything that can verify that Lupe is not doing a good job in her position on the Library Commission? I despise her comments and positions in regards to illegal immigrants too, but she has a right to free speech.
What can you point to that verifies that Thomas was an “effective” commissioner? Nothing against Thomas but EPIC has not been “effective” in doing anything.
common sense,
Every single EPIC commissioner asked for Thomas to be allowed to stay on the commission. He was and is very involved in the community. No one knows Santa Ana crime statistics the way Thomas does. He gave a lot to that commission. Believe me, his removal only made a lame commission even less effective.
As for Lupe, how can she be effective when she hates most of the local population? Her appointment is an affront to all Latinos in the city. Pulido ought to be ashamed of himself.
“his removal only made a lame commission even less effective”
You clearly admit that EPIC is “lame” and not effective. If Mr. Gordon was so “effective” then why is this commission so lame? The commission has maintained a steady ineffectiveness the entire time it has been in existence, with or with Mr. Gordon.
“how can she be effective when she hates most of the local population?”
Do you have anything that can demonstrate this so-called ineffectiveness? Her comments and her commission appointment are two seperate issues. Can you point to anything that she has done in her capacity as a Library Commissioner that makes her ineffective?
“Every single EPIC commissioner asked for Thomas to be allowed to stay on the commission.”
I think you may have overstated this claim just a bit. Some members of EPIC may have spoken out in support of Mr. Gordon, but not “every single” one.
But I digress.
Lupe, while outrageous in her comments as a private citizen, has not been a poor Library Commissioner.
common sense,
The minute Pulido forced the commission to be called Epic instead of the “Gang” commission it became a lame exercise. I will grant you that. Pulido and the Council are in denial as to the ongoing gang war in our city.
As for the libraries, Moreno has been a commissioner for some time. We still have only one main library. How effective can she possibly be? And I maintain that someone who hates most of the population ought not be a commissioner, period.
“Moreno has been a commissioner for some time. We still have only one main library. How effective can she possibly be?”
You were a Library Commissioner, were you not? Can’t the same be said for you?
We both know that the Library Commission has no power to create new libraries. Why are you trying to put the blame on Moreno when she is no more responsible for that than you.
common sense,
One of the reasons I was not retained on the library board is precisely because I was calling for more libraries.
As a commissioner I organized a citywide book drive. I also get the Times to declare Santa Ana to be a “Reading City.”
It turned out that Pulido did not want our populace to be literate. So now he has a Minuteman on the board. And you keep giving him a free pass…
“Thomas was an effective commissioner who does not hate the majority of our local population.”
What is Mr. Gordon’s position on illegal immigration? Does he support illegal immigration? If not, how is his position different from that of Ms. Moreno?
“And you keep giving him a free pass”
How am I doing that? I do not support Pulido and btw I am not a Democrat either.
Glad to see you kids have discovered History. She is a cruel mistress, however. “Googling” does not produce all that one needs to know, and Wikipedia is highly suspect. Research is required. Check out the story of the burning of the Santa Ana Chinatown in 1906. If you can find it. Welcome to the thinking club, OJers!
Mr. Pedroza or Mr. Gordon I am with Common Sense and would like to hear where Mr. Gordon stands on the issue of illegal immigration. As a Republican voter I am going to have to choose who I want representing me on the County Committee. I am well aware of Moreno’s position, but Gordon’s position isn’t quite so clear.
Would either one of you please do the voters a favor and make his position known? Thanks!
Now that people have asked for Mr. Gordon’s position on illegal immigration all we hear is crickets. C’mon Mr. Gordon lets hear how you stand on the issue of illegal immigration.
Do you support amnesty? Do you support the border fence? Do you want the illegal immigrants deported? Do you view the children of illegal immigrants as “anchor babies”?
Your compadre Mr. Pedroza spends all his time attacking Lupe Moreno in an effort to discredit Mayor Pulido. We know where she stands Mr. Gordon. Where do you stand?
Lupe Moreno has been a wonderful library commisioner.
PedRaza (as usual) doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
While Lupe was organizing book sales and fundraisers to support the library, Art sits behind his computer gleefully fabricating stories and one handed blogging.
While she works to keep the libraries open in the face of huge budget cuts, PedRaza, without doing any research or fact finding, tries to blame her for the city not having enough libraries. Talk to Michelle Martinez about why she hasn’t opened any new libraries, Art. It’s more her job as an elected than someone who is appointed, and yet you choose to trash a volunteer instead of someone who’s job it is to direct the city to make new libraries.
What Lupe does on her own time is her business, but when she’s a commissioner doing the work for ALL of the residents of Santa Ana, she is dedicated and a hard worker.
Grow up!
