Well, the Santa Ana police department finally did something about the recent upsurge in gang violence. “An early morning operation targeting a local gang led to Thursday’s arrest of 12 suspected gang members and the seizure of five firearms, police said,” according to the O.C. Register.
“Arrested were seven adults: Joseph Castaneda, 28; Lorenzo Hernandez, 18; Jimmy Correa, 31; Diego Salas, 18; Mario Cortez, 20; Ramon Raldires, 25; and Angel Rios, 27. Five juveniles were also arrested.”
The police refused to identify the gang these guys belong to. Maybe our readers might know?
“So far this year, there have been five gang-related homicides in Santa Ana. There were 16 gang-related homicides in 2007 and 18 in 2006. The city’s worst year was 1995, when 46 gang killings occurred.”
Well, we are still on a record-breaking pace for gang killings. But at least 12 of the gang members involved in this gang war are now in jail. I wonder why this operation took so long? Maybe the cops waited for the miscreants to Vote Yes on Measure D before they locked them up? That would not surprise me…
This is great news for the community. Yay for the police!
Read the article moron!
The arrests take time because there is an investigation and the police build a case before making an arrest. I’m glad to know that they do it right instead of just rolling up gang members and then finding they have to release them because they don’t have a case. According to the article, the investigation has been ongoing for months.
Measure D has nothing to do with it.
Great post Art. I read this week in the L.A. Times about some high profile arrests of Taggers in L.A. These guys are going to serve real jail time and it got a lot of pub. When was the last time saw photos in the paper of Santa Ana taggers getting hauled away in cuffs? It’s never happened that I can remember. In S.A. tagging is no big deal and the taggers laugh at the Council/Police for slap on the wrists they get IF they get caught, which almost never happens. I’d like to see some 3AM, rack um out of the sack and haul them away in cuffs arrests in S.A. of Taggers!!!Any thoughts?
A two-month investigation was prompted by the recent upswing in gang violence in Santa Ana.
WAIT!
I was watching the last city council meeting and that liar Claudia Alvarez told the viewers that crime was an all time low in Santa Ana.
How can it be low, yet have so many arrest and killings?
Santa Ana Police should contract out this guy.

12 down and like about 20,000 taggers and gangsters in Santa Ana to go
But these are our future leaders! Say it isn’t so…
But I thought Michele Martinez’s council committee and marches after one of these guys gets shot was going to put an end to all this gang violence! What happened? And while on the subject of Martinez..since she opposed measure D does that mean she will only serve 2 terms? just asking.
Poster 3,
I would dearly love to see pictures of taggers getting tased…
5:24,
Nice try, but no cigar. Michele deserves kudos for bringing attention to something the rest of the Council would just as soon ignore.
I wonder if the 12 guys who got arrested are clients of Alfredo Amezcua. He refused to put a No on D sign on his lawn. But he sure had a lot of Hillary signs on it. Barf!
Al Amezcua. BARF is right. Mr. Let’s make a deal. If you give me your money, we will negotiate how much time you’ll do in jail. I won’t defend your inocence, cuz you know you’re guilty. Just give me your money and sure you’ll do time, but it won’t be that long.
The Santa Ana City Council is pathetic!!! All 7 of them! They are more concerned about extending their term limits than stopping murders!
