I had a sore back last night, so I could not make it to the Santa Ana City Council meeting. But I caught a bit of it online before I went to bed. Apparently the City Council went along with a proposal by Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido to break up the Gang of Three.
They agreed to form an ad hoc committee to study how they are going to run their Council meetings, with regard to televising them and putting them online in a searchable archive. But instead of appointing the Gang of Three (Vince Sarmiento, Sal Tinajero and Claudia “Clownia” Alvarez) the Ad Hoc Committee, it seems that Pulido will now name two of the members of the Committee.
I don’t know if the members were chosen last night or if Pulido is going to appoint them in the future. If the latter, I hope he goes with David Benavides and Michele Martinez. I am also not sure who else is on the Committee, I missed that. I am sure Thomas Gordon, who was there last night, will fill in the blanks with a subsequent post.
Martinez should be on the Ad Hoc Committee due to her passion for opening up our city government. I can believe her when she talks about serving the people. I don’t believe anything that comes out of the mouths of the Gang of Three.
I wonder if Pulido made his move in an effort to thwart us from calling his hacks the “Gang of Three?”
By the way, the Ad Hoc Committee IS NOT subject to the Brown Act. That’s right. There they go again, hiding from the public…
Mayor Pulido suggested that there would not be a second meeting this month (Jan. 08). I guess if you are under heat to televise the second meeting – just cancel it.
I do not expect much out of this ad hoc committee. You could sense that the three councilmembers were setting themselves up for an inability to come to a consensus in their comments.
Whatever Miguel wants, Miguel gets and Miguel does not want to televise all monthly council meetings.
The creation of an ad hoc committee is merely a pacifier for crybaby Tinajero. Looks like their honeymoon is over.
Council meetings (and all other SATV channel 3 cable content) are streamed live in real time. This can be accessed at http://www.santa-ana.org , and clicking on cable TV, then clicking on the live stream.
The next rebroadcast (cable AND web)of the council meeting will be tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 9) at 6:00 if you want to see it.
