Now that we all know what a tremendous hack Councilman Vince Sarmiento (pictured above, cavorting with his ally, Councilman Sal Tinajero) is, the question is, who will run against Sarmiento next year for Ward 1 on the Santa Ana City Council?
Community activist Jim Walker has already announced. I am told he will have no problem raising money. He is popular with the Com Link crowd.
What about Housing & Redevelopment Commissioner Deborah Vasquez? She was one of several candidates who put their names in the hopper for the Ward 1 vacancy when the incumbent, Jose Solorio, moved on to the 69th Assembly District. I think she would be a great candidate.
What about Tim Whitacre? As my readers know, I am not a fan of his, but he would likely get the OC GOP endorsement, and he has a lot of fans in the Floral Park and Sandpointe Neighborhoods.
And then there is my co-blogger Luis Rodriguez, who pulled his endorsement of Sarmiento after last night’s council meeting. Rodriguez also resigned today from the Housing & Redevelopment Commission, in support of Thomas Gordon, who Sarmiento voted to remove from the EPIC/Gang Commission.
Jennifer Villasenor, who also serves on the Housing & Redevelopment Commission, also was previously interested in Ward 1. But would she turn on Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido by taking on Sarmiento?
Quite frankly, we would have been better off with Villasenor in Ward 6 as compared to Councilman Sal Tinajero. She would have voted with Pulido all the time, but so does Sal! And he has turned out to be a monstrous disaster for the residents of our city.
Lastly, I think Desi Reyes lives in Ward 1 too, but I am not sure. He is the current Chairman of the ETAC Commission.
Vince has been talking like a Democrat, but why is he not voting like one? He has a lot of promise quickly going down the drain.
Vince has long used his pal the mayor to cover up all the drugs/prostitution/mayhem that happens at the family business, festival hall.
“The time has come for all good men (and women) to come to the aid of their … community.”
Time to step up, not only for city council, but three new people for the Santa Ana school board. Twenty years ago Rob Richardson and Audry Y-Noji were inquisitive and demanding of school managers, but today are arrogant in their experience, and absolutely ignorant of the sources and the gravity of problems in our classrooms. They need to go, along with Rosie Avila, a very nice lady with completely impractical ideas for our schools.
Luis, it’s time to step up. Nobody on the SAUSD board understands schools better than you. Cecilia Aguinaga needs to give it another go. Who else … who else ? Someone who will visit schools often, ask questions and listen to students, teachers, office staff, custodians, not just occaisionally make a school visit with an entourage for a photo-op. That’s what we have for board members now.
Cecilia needs to give it another go? YOu have to be kidding me. She ran the most god awful campaign in SAUSD history. After dumping professional advisors she ended up listening to advice from lightweights like Beatriz Salas, who doesn’t know her a$$ from a hole in the ground. Cecilia is running to split the vote with real challengers to Rosie and Rob, that is why Miguel is pushing her to run again. It is not so she can win, it is so she can cause others to lose.
SOme good candidates are Luis Rodriguez or Nelida Yanez.
MMMmm,
Who is going to run against Vince?
I don’t know anyone that can compete with all that ill gotten money as #2 referred to.
Where is the Treasury Department or IRS when you need them?
