This just in from my anti-war friend Vern:
OK, it’s gonna be (at least) 3 caroling sessions Friday and Saturday, I haven’t got any feedback from elsewhere in the county about alternative malls to sing at on Sunday, for example in Fullerton or Laguna Niguel, so it looks like Huntington Beach is the center of the world as I always suspected. I hope all of you can come to at least one of these festivities, and if you wanna do something somewhere else on Sunday noon or evening, I’m free with my guitar and song sheets!
1. FRIDAY South Coast Plaza (like last year) meet at the usual Anton/Bristol peace rally which goes from 5 to 7 (the regulars would like you there as close to 5 as you can make it, as they’ve been doing it for over five years and they’re getting tired of only having half a dozen people) Then at 7 we cross the pedestrian bridge and sing our carols until we get kicked out (probably half an hour.) Remember, no signs at any of these events, but wear anti-war slogans!
2. SATURDAY NOON Bella Terra (Huntington Beach, northwest corner of Edinger and Beach) we’ll meet at the big Christmas tree in front of the cinema, like we did on Black Friday.
3. SATURDAY EVENING Westminster Mall — let’s meet at Wendy’s at 5:30! We haven’t done this mall before so it should be a great adventure! (At 7 I gotta walk over to the S Restaurant and play some piano, you all could come in and have some Vietnamese food if you want, it’s my new gig)
Get lost trying to get to any of these, call me Vern at 714-235-VERN. And if some of you south county or north county folks want to do this somewhere in your neck of the woods let us all know! (RESPOND ALL)
AND HERE ARE THE CAROLS IN ORDER!! (3 old ones from last year and 3 brand new ones!)
ALSO ATTACHED.
1. We Wish You a Merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas,
We wish you a merry Christmas,
We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Our troops deserve a merry Christmas,
Our troops deserve a merry Christmas,
Our troops deserve a merry Christmas, so bring them back here!
Yes, stopping this war is something Congress can do:
So, [DANA], stop the funding, or the death toll
They say they will sing until the get kicked out of South Coast Plaza and other malls. Don’t you think there is someone from Costa Mesa Police that perhaps reads this blog? just curious.
I think the Costa Mesa PD have more important things to worry about on a Friday night… It’s the security in the mall that might EVENTUALLY call them… that should give us enough time to sing all six of our songs at least once (the other five are all better than the one printed above — Wait’ll you hear our new “Exit Plan Rock” to the tune of Jingle Bell Rock)
Forgot to give a time for the Westminster Mall Saturday — that’s 5:30 at Wendy’s!
Dear Anonymous,
I wish you could have been there Friday night. Not only were we well-received, one of the security guards was an Iraq war veteran who said he appreciated what we were doing and shook our hands as we left! We were able to both sing our message to crowds who were significantly more receptive to us than last year, AND we were able to let the war veteran know about the Military Families Speak Out organization. Vern was correct; the PD did have more important things to occupy their time and we got to sing all of our songs to an appreciative (and curious) audience! Laura
