2008 Republican Presidential Primary
National Poll:
Thompson 28% Giuliani 27%
There’s change at the top in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson earning support from 28% of Likely Republican Primary Voters. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani attracts support from 27%. While Thompson’s one-point edge is statistically insignificant, it is the first time all year that anybody but Giuliani has been on top in Rasmussen Reports polling. A week ago, Thompson and Giuliani were tied at 24%.
So, Giuliani may have some good capaign promises but Thompson will be the Candidate in November.
Sorry Richardo…but Rudy has the
staying power and Fast Freddy like
Mayor Bloomberg…are sitting on
the Newt Gingrich side of the party. Outside and undeclared!
The Prime numbers are Who can beat
the Hillary? There can be only
one and that is Rudy…not Freddy..
not Mikey B….not Mitt. Who would
you prefer to have run with Rudy?
Obama is already running with Hillary…so we will have to take
either a reluctant Colin Powell..
or Freddy D. Thompson!
#1, for that matter I’m tired of Democrats and their bizarre, psychological need to lie and pander to get votes on the national level. It’s downright sick.
Richard, I commend you in your support and hope for Thompson. I also commend the Winships for their support for Rudy.
Thompson and Giuliani are both great candidates and I hope they will use their current frontrunner status to show America what we’re all about. For Romney and McCain… no dice.
Ron and Anna,
The term Fast Freddy could be interpreted as someone new catching up fast. I don’t believe that is entirely accurate. Senator Thompson’s political history dates back to his prosecutor days when we took on the Nixon Whitehouse in Watergate. Fast … like a speed train just pulling out of the station the numbers keep climbing and now pass the once untouchable Giuliani. And we, Senator Thompson supporters, haven’t even mobilized yet.
To place Thompson in the same comparative sentence with Mayor Bloomberg was really an insult. Thompson would not deny the Republican Party and values he has held for so long. He has committment.
As far as sitting on the sidelines you really have to look at political strategy. Remember Senator Thompson replaced the Senate vacancy of a sitting Democrat Vice President running against a highly favored Democratic political incumbent (holding another office). The strategy was the same as he is using now. He announced late and let the front runners knock themselves out of the race.
You have to admit he currently enjoys the benefits of normal coverage, extra coverage because he hasn’t announced, and is letting the top tier prune themselves.
Politically speaking it was brilliant. He is getting more free press not announcing than he would get announcing. BTW, my sources tell me the first week in July is the week to watch for him to formalize.
I am part of California’s largest organized grass roots, meaning not officially endorsed, movement. We are organizing people in various parts of the state to attend fairs on the 4th with Support Thompson booths because people want to support him. My point is he is a point ahead of Mayor Giuliani and the Mayor is in full force with staff and resources working overtime. Thompson has not even cracked the door for his resources and movement. When that happens I am confident you will see some significant jumps just do to support networks.
Senator Thompson and Mayor Giuliani as a team? It would cover the varying degrees of the Republican party. I would LOVE to see Colin Powell in consideration for either Senator Thompson or Mayor Giuliani.
I have also considered Condoleezza Rice. Very intelligent, articulate, presents herself as a very strong and confident woman. And let’s not be completely naive and not acknowledge the minority vote. I believe she would give Hillary a run for the woman and minority vote.
Her stigma… too close to Bush but I do like the option.
I would like to say now that whoever wins the Primary it will be crucial for Republicans to unite behind the candidate. If divided, there is no hope…
Richard Rios
Reagan’s 11 Commandment applies
right after the Primary is over!
In the mean time……
And republican means staying the hell out of people’s lives?
…identify every non-citizen? Hmmm, how can one do that?
I personally like Giuliani. And I am not too afraid of this republican becoming president. His flaw is that he seems to first act on his logic. But then he is able to see his errs and alter the path. What looks good on paper doesn’t always work in life — and at least he has the intelligence to have a plan B.
He is the ONLY rep who has a CHANCE against Hilary Clinton. Good luck suckers.
