I heard today that Santa Ana Ward 2 council candidates Tish Leon and Michele Martinez both heard from the City of Santa Ana with regard to the threats that they both received about their campaign signs. Apparently the city officials decided that they were wrong to have targeted the signs in question. Isn’t it funny how that happened after we wrote about it here at the Orange Juice?
This was clearly an attempt by Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido and Santa Ana City Manager Dave Ream to pressure the candidates who are opposing Tino Rivera, the Pulido acolyte who is running for Ward 2. Sorry Miguel! I guess you will have to figure out a way to help Rivera without resorting to illegal abuses of civic power.
In related news, Sal Tinajero and Pulido were both no-shows at tonight’s candidate’s forum at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Santa Ana. I don’t understand why Tinajero skipped out on this forum and a previous one that was held in a bilingual format at the Southwest Senior Citizens Center. You would think he would not miss these forums as he speaks impeccable Spanish. His opponent, George Collins, was at both forums and he got a lot of support tonight. His other opponent, Villasenor, was also there tonight, after skipping out on the previous bilingual forum.
Finally, please remember that there will be a Santa Ana School Board candidate’s forum tomorrow night, at 7 p.m. , at Santa Ana High School. The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Central Orange County and the Santa Ana Education Foundation. Claudio Gallegos and I are supposed to be there as observers. I hope to see many of our readers there!
a lot of signs out there. a lot of mail too.
Did the other candidates also get the city to back down?
Everywhere I see a Leon or the Michele signs I see several for the other candidates too.
Did you see the nice ghetto picture in the OC Register this morning of the Santa Ana signs?

Why do you use the word “ghetto”? This is a typical street corner scene before elections throughout Orange County. Is it the Hispanic surnames that make you use the word “ghetto”? I think you are being a racist. Our candidates reflect our community and soon our city council will as well.
If the comment was racially biased against the latino surnames, wouldn’t it have said barrio instead of ghetto?
It could just be that the area looks bad, and the signs don’t help.
Aren’t all the campaign signs out in front of the mayor’s house illegal?
