Fleischman says he is more conservative than his female opponent

I ran into Jon Fleischman at the last OC GOP Central Committee meeting and he shocked me by asking for my endorsement, with regard to his race for the California Republican Party (CRP) Southern Vice Chairman position. He announced his campaign on his blog, the Flash Report. According to Fleischman, the southern region includes FOUR counties — Orange, Riverside, San Diego and Imperial.

Fleischman also says that “the job of a regional Vice-Chairman, in my opinion, is very straightforward, and two-fold: The first is to act as a liaison between the State Party and the county GOP organizations, doing everything possible to help those counties to implement their political plans (voter registration, get-out-the-vote activities, targeted legislative and local election opportunities, etc). So whether it is helping to raise money, bring speakers, or help to coordinate resources, that is the main focus of this position. The second is to play a fiduciary role as a member of the party’s Board of Directors. In this latter role, I will be able to draw upon my experience having served as Executive Director of the California Republican Party for the 2000 election cycle.”

The current Vice Chairman for the Southern Region, is Warene Wall, who hails from San Diego. I googled her and found the following entry in the online Veterans Journal:

Warene Wall is Second Vice Chair of the Republican Party of San Diego County and was recently presented the Woman of the Year award. She is State Chair of the California Volunteer Network and San Diego County Chair of the Special Election Campaign Team for the California Republican Party.

Warene is also a member of the Republican Party of San Diego County – Chairman’s Circle Fairbanks Republican Women Federated (FRWF); and is the Founder/Honorary Chair of the San Diego Chapter of the California Black Republican Council. As an active member of theseorganizations, her efforts to build outreach programs to ethnic communities have resulted in thousands of votes for Republican candidates across San Diego County.

Warene is the former Regional Volunteer Chair for San Diego and Imperial Counties for Bill Jones for U.S. Senate and Bill Simon for Governor.

In April she was voted onto the California Republican Party Board (CRP) as an appointee of Chairman Sundheim for the position of Vice Chair – South. Her appointment was to fill the vacancy created when Keith Carlson was elected Treasurer of the CRP. The appointment expires in February 2007.

After very careful consideration, and the encouragement of many Republican leaders, she has decided to become a candidate for the position of Vice Chair – South.

She will be aggressively campaigning for this position in the very near future, but feels it would be inappropriate to use the upcoming CRP Convention as a campaign event. Stating that there are far more important issues on which we need to focus rather than pursue my personal agenda.

Warene hopes that she not lose traction in her campaign as a result of this decision.
