Gentle readers, it has come to this: we’ve accomplished a lot this week, but we still haven’t covered one of our main goals — finding one AND ONLY ONE person to run against Poseidon-sucking maniac Steve Sheldon in Orange County Water District’s Area 5.
Take a look at that area! Lot’s of well-educated and well-off who KNOW DAMNED WELL that Orange County should not lie still to let a foreign corporation with lavish lobbyists lock in a decades-long contract that guarantees them huge profits for water that we don’t need — especially at that price! But there’s only one way to stop it — running against him — and that chance comes only once every four years. TODAY IS THE DAY TO STOP STEVE SHELDON. Newport Beachers, Irviners, one (but only one!) of you must step up and take down this clown!
Campaign money, I believe, can be raised. There’s a whole set now of people who have signed up to oppose a whole set of people who have been part of the present order in which lobbyists rule. So don’t let that stop you. If you’re a water engineer, that expertise would be ideal; a water policy background would also be very helpful. But even if you’re neither — even if all you’ve got to offer is common sense in your head and a lack of larceny in your heart — let us know of your interest. You can write me at mail2greg4-thejuice AT yahoo DOT com. (If you can’t figure out how to make that into a real email address, you’re probably not the candidate we need.)
You can office your suggestions for who else from this area you think might make a good candidate as well — especially, perhaps, someone who recently lost a primary election and knows that water policy matters? (Yes, Hans, I’m talking about you!) Activate your social networks — we haven’t a moment to waste!
The boundary at the very bottom ends at Cameo Shores. Little Treasure Cove is just outside of the district. (Honestly, I have no idea that either of these places existed!) Anyone from Cameo Shores want to step up? Above PCH, the eastern reach of the district’s boundary stops at Garrett Drive.
Fine — you want more? Moving north and counterclockwise, the outer boundaries of the district include: Cameo Highlands Drive, Surrey Drive, Seaward Drive, and Isabella Terrace. Then, past the parkland, it’s Poppy Avenue, Sandcastle Drive, and Ocean Birch Dr. and the small streets south of it. The boundary then crosses San Joaquin Road at Spy Glass Hill Road and moves east until around Newport Ridge Road and Crestridge, from which from which is heads ENE, excluding Newport Ridge, until it hits Turtle Ridge. It includes all of the populated area from there until Quail Ridge at Newport Canyon Road. It then cuts over to include the Irvine Spectrum area, the Irvine Research Center area, and the Irvine Industrial Complex East, excluding the Irvine City Hall area west of Alton and Barrance, and the Great Park. North of there, it includes most of the closest part of Irvine, excluding most of Portola Springs– including Bee Canyon, Stonegate, Eastwood Village, Northwood, Northpark, and Orchard Hills. It excludes much of West Irvine, as follows: from Portola Parkway and the 261 southwestward, it includes the area east of the 261 north to Irvine Blvd., then east, and then east of Culver south of Irvine Blvd. Then it’s the area southwest of Alton Parkway and southeast of Jamboree, then south along the bikeway (including CdM HS and the Hyatt Regency. It takes in Newport Harbor HS and Newport Elementary, but otherwise continues mostly along south of 15th Street until it hits the 55, then once over PCH again it takes in the area roughly southeast of 38th Street until it hits the ocean. Is that clear? (We can also look up your address, if that’s easier.)
But where can we hide to escape the Northwood Night Stalker?
Time is short and we have miles to go! Shut up and paddle!
Actually, if he’d be right on Poseidon, I would have to swallow hard and support Dan C. over Sheldon in this race. IF. (I’m pretty sure that he would not reciprocate the sentiment.)
One of the finest minds I know in OC politics offered a suggestion: Democratic Irvine Council candidate and scientist Kev Abazajian. (I believe that one can run for Council AND a Board, although I’d hope that Reading about Abazajian, my impression is that he would probably be absolutely miserable on the Irvine Council — but I think that he’d be truly intrigued and enthused by what goes on with the Water Board. Anyone out there who can broach the subject with him — QUICKLY?
*We used to live in this District. Oh well, the IRWD is still safe with the lovely Peer Swan
watching over things…….eh? Who needs to run when you have pillars of society guiding our meaningless water policies? Who needs Gatekeepers and Sgt at Arms when you have those folks?
