Lacking a transom of any sort, we at the Orange Juice Blog instead checked our e-mail inbox and stumbled across this delightful bit of news from our good friend Jim Moreno, who has been doing a great job on the CCCD Board, dealing with endless funding cuts while keeping all classes, avoiding layoffs, and keeping an amicable working relationship with former political rivals on the Board:
JIM MORENO ELECTED PRESIDENT OF COAST COMMUNITY
COLLEGE DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Huntington Beach resident former County of Los Angeles Deputy Supervisor Jim Moreno has been elected to serve to as the president of the Coast Community College District (CCCD) Board of Trustees for 2012. Moreno was unanimously elected board president by his fellow trustees at an organizational meeting this week. Trustee Mary Hornbuckle was elected vice president and Trustee Lorraine Prinsky was reelected to the Clerk position.
Moreno has served on the Coast Community College District Board of Trustees since 2006. This is his second term as president. He currently resides in Trustee Area 1, which includes Huntington Beach, Seal Beach and Westminster.
During his career on the Board, Moreno has served on the Audit Committee, chaired the Career and Technical Education Committee and been the trustee representative to the Orange County Community Colleges Legislative Task Force and the District Foundation. Moreno also serves on the Community College League of California’s Advisory Committee on Education
Services and is an elected representative to the California Community Colleges Trustee Board.
Re-elected to the board last year, Moreno has also served his community as the Past Chairman of the Citizen Participation Advisory Board for the City of Huntington Beach, the past Senior Deputy for a Los Angeles County Supervisor, a volunteer at the Live Oak Adult Literacy Program teaching English and Citizenship and as a Member of CHP Community Advisory Board. Moreno is a graduate of California State University, Long Beach.
“I am honored to serve again as president of the board,” Moreno said. “We are facing important challenges at our colleges and increasing budget cuts from the state. We need to find ways to fully fund our colleges and continue to provide pathways for our students to attain their educational goals.”
….
There’s more, but it gets boring. Congratulations Jim!
Good man, good choice. I believe that there is similar good news about Gary Pritchard in his district! Competence all over the place!
Vern, I forgot to tell you about the transom I had installed. Well, it’s actually just a hole up high in the wall of the “Juice Cave,” but one could shove a piece of paper through it. (I’ll be more careful next time.)
Thanks for posting this, Vern. Jim will do a great job!
Congrads to Jim. Another friend Sergio C has been elected as President of the Westminster School board Sharon Q as Mayor of Fullerton a good week for Orange County.
With a 70% drop out rate from the community colleges, Mickey Mouse could do better than this guy. He was the SUPERVISOR for a failed and bankrupt city? A city full of crime, scumbags and welfare recipients? And now is going to run a community scam? Yep, things are looking up.
Happy Christmas to you all and It’s going to be a rough year, unless we get rid of the loser Demorats in Sacramento and the RINOS and Demorats in WDC.
“Stone cold sober, as a matter of fact!”
What the FUCK are you talking about potatohead? Jim Moreno was the supervisor for WHAT city? You don’t even know who the hell he is. Go back to sleep and leave the grownups alone.

MQ says:
The is what I am talking about!
Go back to sleep: I wish, grown up like myself are up engaged in the world at nearly 9am Mr. Vern.
WHAT time do you start drinking at Mr. Diamond? Grownups who don’t make an easy living suing in corrupt courts are not drinking in the morning.
So again this former supervisor, did nothing and I mean nothing in his last job to make a difference, ya really think he is going to do a good job in the scam industry called community college? Just a massive waste of taxpayer money on a wage and benefit that just rakes the California taxpayer.
But again Happy Christmas and stay off the booze in the am and if possible just one drink at night for a women and two for a man/120z Glass. 🙂
Jim was never an LA Supervisor. I am sad that you read, think, and write so unclearly without the aid of booze.
Wow, now you think booze is the reason I write clearly? I think that booze would not aid at all.
Happy Christmas Vern and watch you language:)
And Happy Christmas Mr. Moreno, hopefully in the New Year you might get a clue and do something good for OCC and it’s students.
MQ says: This is the perfect example of what I am talking about. Union scumbags who live off and profit from a corrupt system we call public jobs. Anyone who tries to take a class today, will be met with just trying to get one class. The classes are full to the brim with the huge product of illegal immigration and the fact that the college admins and professors are raking the system and then cutting classes and services for students to try to make it look that the budget problem is the reason the college system sucks.
California has become Mexico, corrupt and it will only get worse. Mr. Moreno is just doing what the rest are doing.

The system is a mess and we need new blood. This “anonymous” endorsement raises an eyebrow – or two – and this type of attack campaigning is illustrative of how out-of-touch Mr. Moreno and his “anonymous” endorser are.
Speak with the students and instructors – things are not better. Matriculation is higher because of higher unemployment rates, increased levels of job dissatisfaction, underemployment, and a general rise in individuals who desire to take classes for professional or personal enrichment. Rather than having their educational expectations met, these individuals are met with a slashed curriculum and scarce course offerings.
Mr. Moreno has reversed himself on his campaign promises of 2006. Then Mr. Moreno stated that he would “maximize funding directly to the classroom” and stated that the growth of our middle-class depended on youth learning skills to compete in a world market.” Mr. Moreno has failed to deliver on his promises as throngs of hopeful students (of all backgrounds) are turned away from courses this Fall and will not learn the skills to compete in our “world market.” Indeed, administrators and educators at IVC have confirmed that they have expressed a tremendous increase in enrollment at Irvine Valley because would-be OCC students were essentially turned away.
Mr. Moreno’s own four daughters benefited from their experiences at Goldenwest and OCC. It is ironic and a travesty that our youth today will not enjoy the same experiences as Mr. Moreno’s children and will have to turn elsewhere to “learn the skills to compete in our world market” on Mr. Moreno’s watch. The “past” was Mr. Moreno’s children and Ms. Jenkins learning these skills at Goldenwest and OCC and becoming productive members of our society. The “present” under Mr. Moreno is students without classes, and dreams deferred.
We have an opportunity to rewind and reposition ourselves on the right track. Mr. Moreno had his time in the driver’s seat, and its now time for a new driver.
