  • In case you missed it, a Bay Area group is proposing an initiative to call a constitutional convention to rewrite the state constitution. While most agree that the state needs reform, taxpayers should not conjure memories of the wise sages who crafted the nation's foundational document. Instead (in the spirit of the season), this meeting would likely be less constitutional convention than Witches Coven, whose enchantments will deliver more tricks than treats.

  • Everyone agrees that California needs reform to make it governable. And there is much debate over what reforms are needed. But, there can be no meaningful reform until we first limit the corrupting influence of the overpowerful public sector unions that are bankrupting California. This means stopping these unions from using taxpayer dollars to gain more taxpayer dollars by passing effective Paycheck Protection laws. Some OC activists are taking the lead to help pass this fundamental and essential reform.

    Is Linda Ackerman using political slush fund money to fund her campaign for the Assembly seat (AD 72) vacated by the disgraced Mike Duvall? A recent campaign finance disclosure indicates that she took thousands of dollars from a suspicious political committee - Citizens for Brulte. The committee is apparently controlled by Republican lobbyist Jim Brulte. Critics question Brulte's ties to a political scandal in San Bernadino county and District Attorney Michael Ramos. California Common Cause has criticized political committees like Brulte's as "slush funds, for lack of a better word". While Linda Ackerman's campaign funding smells of Sacramento's bipartisan Culture of Corruption, it also reeks of a Culture of Creepiness.
