Minuteman founder Jim Gilchrist has apparently pulled papers to run against Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, as reported over at Liberal OC. You can also read about this story over at Total Buzz. We wrote about the possibility of Gilchrist running awhile ago; you can read that post at this link.
Gilchrist’s campaign will be a real problem for the OC GOP. He will most certainly attract support from angry white voters in the 47th District. And I think he will do well with the Trannies – the followers of Assemblyman Van Tran. They tend to be Mexican haters, as evidenced by the letter sent by the last OC GOP candidate for the 47th, Tan Nguyen. That letter was sent to Mexican American voters and it was a ham-fisted attempt to scare them into not voting. Supervisorial candidate Trung Nguyen is also a confirmed Mexican hater.
I have written about brewing tensions between Latinos and Vietnamese in central Orange County. Gilchrist will be sure to fan those fires. But will Van Tran help him? It is hard to say. Tran has had his eye on Loretta’s congressional seat for years. I believe he supported Tan Nguyen in 2006, just to test the waters. Will he support Gilchrist just to soften her up for 2010?
You can be sure that Mexican haters like Rosie Avila and Lupe Moreno will be helping Gilchrist.
The beneficiary of all this is Congresswoman Sanchez. And the Democrats in general. If this doesn’t get Latinos to the polls, I don’t know what will…
Art:
I agree that Sanchez will be the beneficiary. Don’t underestimate the value a Gilchrist candidacy will have to the Dems. Count on him being a poster boy for the GOP in Latino households throughout the state. Other then maybe David Duke, I can’t think of a worse candidate for them.
I hope there will be a series of debates so we can see where the candidates stand on this issues. Art, can you please contact West Floral Park resident, and League of Female voters President Joan Haight and have her moderate the event? You will need to reserve space at the santa ana city hall and make sure cable t.v. covers it.
Will the OC GOP along with Dale Dykma and Buck Johns and David and Manny Padilla be doing all they can to get him elected? Will Carlos Bustamonte back Jim or Loretta? Will Jim support the Lincoln/Juarez center? Is there still a Lincoln/Juarez center? Who will Otto Bade support? Jo Ellen Allen? What do you think Art?
That should be an interesting race. But doesn’t Gilchrist live in Aliso Viejo? I didn’t think that he would want to live in a community, even temporarily with many Latino and Vietnamese immigrants.
Art,
I find it ironic that you point out Trungs anti-Latino mailers while blatantly ommitting janets greviously racist mailers from the same election.
janet is an avowed racist pig. Her mailers prove it. I suggest you inclue tham in this post in order to provide accuracy and balance.
I agree with Bladerunner. The only difference between Jim Gilchrist and David Duke is that Duke left his KKK days behind him.
Arturo,
You forgot the one and only one Latino-lover, Janet Nguyen.
Bladerunner,
Gilchrist = David Duke????
Only a meat head can come up with such crapola.
I hear Carlos Bustamonte might run against Lorreta as well. Anyone else heard that?
So, Art – if we oppose illegal immigration we are “Mexican haters”? Nothing could be further from the truth, but the truth is irrelevant to you.
You are a pathetic, race-baiting fool.
I think Jim vs. Loretta would be great. I would consider voting for anyone who is NOT being promoted by the GOP Central Committee and the Red blog creeps.
How do democrats spell fear?
There must be something there, if so many scream in terror at the sound of his name.
How can a single issue candidate cause such a panic?
This may be a very interesting election cycle after all.
With Jim Gilchrist as the candidate, the face of the Republican party becomes more honest. He and Dana Rohrabacher can appear together on right wing talkfests and scream their slogans louder, without every being able to work towards solving the problems we have with immigration.
Art. Commenter #5 is right about Janet hating Mexicans. Just ask one of her closest latina advisors. While this latina’s job is to bring the latino vote to Janet, she is making sure we all know Janet hates Mexicans.
