Vern here, let me just step in on this RSM thing. I wrote about what Mayor Tony Beall said at the last meeting that he DEIGNED TO HOLD, and it was worse than that: He suggested that Renee Good brought on her killing by her own bad behavior. Then a lot of angry locals were going to show up to the next meeting and react to that (meanwhile Alex Pretti had also been murdered) and Tony cancelled that meeting. I wrote “I bet he thinks RSM citizens will forget.” Let’s see if you-all do. Read “If Beall St. Could Shut Up”

Have you read the UNITE HERE! LOCAL 11 Manifesto?
https://www.instagram.com/p/DUjTanLEiSj/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Interesting new IG channel, anti-UNITE HERE leadership (anti-Ada) as well as anti-Santa Ana progressive. Sounds like a combo of Pedroza and Cunningham. Maybe not so interesting the more I explore it.
Wow what a febrile back up of venom. But for the life of me I can’t tell what it’s for or against.
No for or against anything…just info for voters. So they know what is happening behind the scenes.
Hi Vern…the post you categorize as Anti Unite Here & Anti-Ada was created to provide the information that was sent to us. We did not create the document, only posted it.
Suggesting that is page is anti-Santa Ana Progressive and then throwing the names “Pedroza” and “Cunningham” to be associated with it, seems like your willingness to defend those you like comes at any price and maybe clouding your judgment.
The post here is a ‘Manifesto’ allegedly written by Unite Here members, however people have thrown out the name of Mark Pulido or Julio Perez as the people behind the document. In any case, residents and members should have this information in front of them to make their own decision.
And we can assure you, none of those names PEDROZA or CUNNINGHAM you mentioned are associated with this page. The page is not “ANTI” anything. As a matter of fact, many of us were union members and/or progressive leaning.
However, for this page, we are trying to keep away from biases as much as possible and only providing information trying to present it’s tone as it was presented to us.
It serves as a page for information readily not available to the average resident or union member.
EXAMPLE of one of the posts on the page:
OC Supervisor Sarmiento campaigning for SA Council-member Jessie Lopez in the background for months before officially coming out for her, but at the same time telling people he was neutral and making SA Council-member Johnathan Hernandez believe he still had a shot at his support. The supervisor was asking organizations and people to support Lopez all while publicly saying he didn’t have a dog in this fight.
Feedback is highly accepted…attacks are not.
We are not writers, journalists, or anything of the sort….just looking to get info out to residents and union members that they normally would not get.
If it’s what I think it is I saw it on Facebook attributed (either accurately or as political sabotage) to Julio Perez.
I blame Betty Martinez Franco and her big mouth.

[GAD: Bowdlerized for your protection!]
The COPD is in shambles since Ada left which is a good sign of whether Ada is in this for the people or herself. She doesn’t appear to build things that last but she is good at getting attention for herself. For example, the short lived Muslim-latino collaborative. The Muslims don’t have an ally in Ada.
https://www.latimes.com/socal/daily-pilot/tn-wknd-et-muslim-latino-collaboration-20170203-story.html
What evidence do you have that DPOC is in “shambles”? C’mon, it’s raining, tell us a story!
Yes, Ada does have a problem with lack of follow-through. But mostly, like Fran Sdao and Frank Barbaro before her, she had access to a lot of money. Florice does not have access to the same sort of money — let alone rizz, though she can be persuasive in one-on-one situations, much like Hillary Clinton supposedly was — so she starts with a handicap. In this sense she reminds me most of Henry Vandermeir, who probably had the best mind and ethics to be a DPOC Chair, but just was not a leader interpersonally. He could work harder than anyone else, but didn’t get people to follow him. (He apparently blamed me for much of this — but that was his mistaking lack of conformity with lack of support.)
Ada has had good advisors, though, and they probably remind her that California Democratic politics considers alliances with Muslims to be deeply sus. Getting past that, if one is so inclined, requires a seriously steely moral core.
I don’t know why all this talk about Ada is on this open thread and not on our new Unite Here story.
Ummm, I always start out with the comments so I can assess the Neshanian damage. I’ll be off to that story soon and then return to my overdue knitting.
Look at their fundraising without her. Start there.
As I said: Florice doesn’t have ready access to serious money — not from her practice like Barbaro (those she does relatively well); not from her spouse (like Sdao), who did so much to ruin Steyer’s Presidential campaign; and not from her union (and somewhat craven public radio figures, plus Latino media) like Ada. She isn’t especially charming, and at her least charming she is positively alienating. She (like future Chair Lauren) is a Zionist activist (so far as I recall) at possible the worst time this century to be one. And she can’t speak recklessly without accountability like you can.
I don’t know how other relatively wealthy counties are doing at a time when young people are revolting against Democratic leadership, but I’d sure like to have some points of comparison before saying it’s mostly her fault.
Scott Weinser enemy of the CDP and Israel!! Lol!

Like I said the COPD is in shambles. You are only bolstering my position.
Issaquah September (6/20/09)
Indian land
Snoqualmie summer
Hop harvest
Frontier post
Old train town
Immigrant inlet
The engines stopped running
but the ghosts remain
cattlemen, lumberjacks, coal miners, wildcats
tell stories
of their glory
on the smoke
of wood burned,
saloon stoked,
supper fires
Leaves yield
yellow upon
autumn’s approach
the gingko
still stands
artifact sentinel
wind whistles wildly
through the highland wilderness
rivers roll roaringly
out yonder
whitewater falls
elk grazing gracefully
over cloud shadowed meadows
this Issaquah September
Oh how I long for the Carrizo Plain
The coloured lichen carpets
The high grass waving
The rock art of natives remain
The wildflowers returning
To a land unchanged
Waiting to capture
A long hard rain
And when I hear the quail
cooing from the chaparral cover
It still takes me places
I cannot explain
Oh how I long for the Carrizo Plain

I’m still not going to Substack sites because I’ve heard some unsettling things about the organization and am waiting for the consensus to gel. So if someone could please pass this along to Jeff Pearlman about this post:
https://www.thetruthoc.com/p/an-unpopular-take-on-ca-40
Hey, Jeff Pearlman! With all of the recent massive outcome shifts in favor of Blue candidates, both wins and surprisingly narrow losses, I wonder whether and how much your mind has changed on this post?
Esther Kim Varet — appearing just as I write at the Anaheim Dems meeting, suddenly seems viable , doesn’t she? (For that matter, so does Joe Kerr, but I still don’t think his appeal extends beyond his fellow firefighting worshippers.) Making MAGAts spend money on this race is a good thing — and might well pay off!
Greg,
Don’t be silly. The DPOC doesn’t have any money let alone money to throw at the likes of Joe Kerr.
If the COPD can’t raise money, is it really of a player in the whole scheme of things???
Yes, the DPOC really is a player in primaries, and still would be if it didn’t have a dime in its coffers, for two reasons:
(1) Threats and Rewards: If it chooses to endorse a candidate (or gets CDP to do so), it narrows the field, in part by threatening those who don’t play along with sanctions and rewarding those who do play along with favor. Fundamentally, this is not so different in form from Trumps doling out consequences base on compliance.
(2) Institutional Influence Media figures and commenters look to DPOC to see which candidates are worth taking seriously. This doesn’t mean that they should win or are going to win; but it does mean that — even if they are hapless (such as, in my view Joe “Self-Love” Kerr) — they won’t be overlooked. They also signal to people who want to cozy up to candidates who they can influence and control which of them is likely to be favored.
I, blissfully, don’t even yet know whether, when, and whom DPOC will endorse in this race. But let’s imagine for a moment who they would endorse if they did want to narrow the field. Kim-Varet is not going to go away no matter what DPOC does because she is a self-funder with a healthy dose of rizz, and she can tell (based on past results) that Kerr is a weak candidate against either Young Kim or Old Calvert. But if Kerr doesn’t get the endorsement — even if its a decision not to endorse? Well, that would be the death knell for his campaign, because inevitability (along with his belief that he can convince people that being the President of a local public labor union makes him a “labor leader” in the the sense that Gloria or Ada Inc. are, and his assistant hype man Tony Bedolla) is his main asset.
You’re just being an ignorant blowhard. Admittedly, you were born to play the role!
Who will the DPOC endorse in CA 40? There will certainly be no DPOC endorsement before the primary, with 3 fairly equally popular candidates none of em will get 60%. I got a story coming out about Esther vs Lisa. Dan can keep polishing Joe Kerr, he is so handy with polishing.
Ok Derek Tran. #1 and #2 It didn’t work with him and he came from nowhere. Enjoy the kitchen table er office.
No, Derek Tran didn’t “come from nowhere.” He had a lot of support from North and West County Democrats; he was a lawyer and spoke very well. And I’d like to think that activists like Vern and I, us writing here and others doing their thing elsewhere, played a role. The fact that he won the general election speaks well for him.
I work at my computer, in a nook off of our living room, not at the kitchen table. But thanks for dipping so low, you pustulant asshole. I think maybe I’ll rewrite some of your poetry.

You should watch footage of Ma. Franco during council meetings. She is a clown that took money from Farrah Khan and thinks only Latin Americans are being victimized by the Trump administration. Her whole DEI champion persona is a sham. She fabricated it to get on the Irvine DEI committee where she didn’t do squat including failing to learn even an iota of Roger’s
rules of order. And, now when her inexperience shows,
she does her best Blanche impersonation and plays the victim because she is new at all of this. She is unserious. EN said it.
See, it wasn’t that hard to avoid slagging a woman’s body parts while you’re criticizing them, was it?
That’s setting the bar about as low as it can go — but it’s a start!
The Blue Square Super Bowl ad proves that Jews are just as racist as the rest of society.

I kindly fixed your “Blie” typo, after first looking it up in both Armenian and Turkish.
I happen to believe that Jews are not exempt from being racist (even beyond long-standing anti-Muslim sentiments), although personally I’m paying more attention to the sexual predation these days (which sickens me as a human being, and doubly and trebly so as a male Jew). But I don’t see how this Super Bowl ad “proves” anything of the sort about Jews generally. It was a weird ad, grabbing credibility from a scripted African American rooting against Palestinian sensibilities, but I promise you this: Jews did not have a big secret vote about whether to fund that ad and what it should say. (Just be glad that people don’t judge all Armenians by what you say and do.)

What elected office did Derek Tran hold before winning the election sending him to DC? He was so well known and liked that the DPOC didn’t want him.

How is it that the only deliberative bodies in Orange Countu purporting to promote DEI (Orange County Human Relations Commission and Irvine DEI committee) are currently lead by American Jewish Zionists (Lauren Johnson Norris and Wendy Bokota)? Note: the OCHRC cancelled its first meeting this year during which it was supposed to elect a new chair.
I don’t think Jewish Zionism and DEI are compatible. Let’s face facts DEI is political window dressing that is all but dead in Orange County.
