Read this story about a young man from Costa Mesa who prides himself on spurting out fake news. His name is Jacob Wohl, he’s 21, and he’s proud about tweeting straight up lies about matters including the Mueller investigation, and getting all sorts of people to believe things that aren’t true.
COSTA MESA, Calif. – A false claim bubbled up from the internet last month that Sen. Kamala Harris, the recently announced presidential candidate, wasn’t eligible for election because she had immigrant parents and spent part of her childhood in Canada. The claim, an echo of the “birther” conspiracy that trailed President Barack Obama, was widely debunked but still addressed seriously by mainstream news pundits, including CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
Even better for Jacob Wohl, the 21-year-old Californian who ignited the Harris birther claim with a tweet, some people actually seemed to accept it as fact.
“The believability stuck at about 15 to 18 percent by my measurement,” Wohl said in an interview shortly afterward, declaring it “not a bad campaign.”
What do you say, folks? Should Orange County try to do something to implant some respect for the truth into Jacob Wohl? Read the whole story, then come back with your suggestions. Only legally permissible actions will survive our editorial filter — but a hell of a lot of responses to this are legal.
Oh yeah, almost forgot: I call on all Republican politicians in OC to publicly reject and denounce this sprout’s practices. (I’d call on the Democratic Party to denounce him — or even figure out whether it has standing to sue this fly speck for defamation over tweets that meet the standard for libel even of public figures, but that would require effort.)
We may not have to gin up a lawsuit, though. Sooner of later it will occur to Wohl to intentionally defame the winners of the four tight Congressional races in his country — and between Cisneros, Porter, Rouda, and Levin I’ll bet that they could raise enough cash to crush him into a fine paste.
This is your Weekend Open Thread. Do your thing.
He’s from Newport Beach and was just permanently banned from Twitter. He’s been floating around for more than 2 years and you just found out about him now.
*Oh those Newport Coast people….OMG!
USA Today says Costa Mesa. Not the best source, but better than TwitterBot.
So sorry I haven’t been sifting through the sewer to find reading material. Also, I don’t know if he’s ever flat out admitted to flat out lying before now. So, has anyone in the OC GOP condemned him yet?
Since this IS an Open Thread, I’ll throw this out there:
Was anyone else seriously skeeved out at the sight of Donald Trump at CPAC forcing himself upon and groping a beautiful, unsuspecting, and unwilling but unable to resist American flag like it was some sort of Ivanka? Threw up a little in my soul.
*Yeah, we were hoping he would be jacking-off on the flag….but our expectations are always too optimistic for the reality!
I wonder if that’s the bridge over which the GOP would not follow him….
*Here are six songs they didn’t play at CPAC this week-end:
“Working Class Hero” – John Lennon 1970
“Subterranean Homesick Blues” – Bob Dylan 1966
“Talkin’ World War III Blues” – Bob Dylan 1964
“You’re Breakin’ my Heart” – by Harry Nilsson 1970
“Everybody’s Talkin’ ” – Harry Nilsson 1969
Now they can play “Proud to be an American” …….by Lee Greenwood
*Yeah, the Dem’s need to play all of these songs at every campaign rally!
*If you are looking for the Lee Greenwood song…It is called: “God Bless the USA,Proud to be an American!”
“Oh yeah, almost forgot: I call on all Republican politicians in OC to publicly reject and denounce this sprout’s practices.”
Counter-productive. My memory of the Kerry “Swift Boat” ratfuck was that the liberals had a bad habit of: “OK, let’s watch some bad claims…here’s the ad…how can they get away with saying this bs? Let’s watch it again…and again…”
Better: what sort of company pays a guy like this for his services? What sort of company hires a firm that a guy like this works for for any business whatsoever?
