Totally forgot that we have Weekend Open Threads here. This is one. It will be revised to have a topic — maybe related to MLK Day? — and this paragraph will be expunged. We’re just THAT KIND OF REBELS!
UPDATE 1/15: That worked out well enough that I don’t really want to change it. But I will add here that you can watch “I am Not Your Negro,” the fantastic documentary on author and public intellectual James Baldwin, tonight at 9 p.m. on PBS. It’s about as un-shithole as you can get. Rev. King would surely approve!
Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that.
Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too.
He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
I was cleaning through spam and found this essay by our Green buddy Kitchen Mudge, who somehow was relegated there (probably by YOU KNOW WHO!) (Note: we don’t actually know who.) Anyway, this piece of his on Russiagate from the waning days of the Old Year was and remains worth reading (which is not an endorsement of every single word), so go for it.
Good news for those, like me, who have a near-overflowing trash bin in their alley this MLK Day morning – Republic (who picks up trash in both Anaheim and Huntington Beach) IS working today.
Glad to have my trash picked up, I choose to interpret this Republic policy as being in honor of the sanitation workers King was rallying in Memphis the day he was assassinated.

*This could be an interesting race if Dennis Rodman comes out in favor of one of these great folks. Sadly, Dennis got busted again last week-end by the Newport Beach police for another DUI write up. Good Grief, we need Dennis on the phone to Kim Jon Un, not spending slam time in our local jail. Just goes to show that the US State Department under Tillerson is certainly not very John Kerry like. Meanwhile, Steve Mnuchin at Treasury hasn’t got the time to even call Dennis on the phone and tell him how much Kim Jon Un can print in Yankee Greenbacks this month,. Meanwhile, Leigh Steinberg isn’t even answering phone calls from Lonzo Ball to get more money for his two brothers Li Angelo and Le Melo working in Lithiuania. How about the Dad, Le Var? Good grief, these things gets so mixed up…..and all right here in our town.. Maybe we just need Don King to come in and work this whole thing out. Ah, the tangled web of Newport Beach politics. Where is that Man Cave again? They could have just invited Kim Jon Un and all this nonsense could have been taken care of – without all the complications. OK, Lara is the pick………but what do we know….we are expats from Newport Beach.
Chumley keeps complaining on his site that if you want to say anything critical on this site you can’t get it posted, which (1) isn’t so — and to my best recollection he’s completely free to post here, even without moderation, and (2) is pretty rich for a guy who allows vicious attacks against targets including me and Vern but won’t allow us to post at his site unmoderated, making it impossible for us to take part in any conversation because of the 20:1 ratio of replies to our belatedly appearing comments appearing before we can get in another word edgewise.
Anyway, I was just in our trash bin and noticed a post there from someone who at least had — long after it was unjustifiable — free rein at Chum’s site, and whose defamatory postings Chumley himself has continued to celebrate: Chuck Johnson, or (in a reference that people of a certain age might get) ‘Lorena Bobbitt”) of HBsludgehamper.
I was just rooting through our trash and notices a post of Bobbitt’s that falls into the category of what Chumley complains about our not posting:
Good Luck tomorrow Vern. Make sure your wife clears out the glass meth pipes from her purse before going through security.
Greg. Please do not leave your GRANDSON alone with Jeff!
Victor, drugging and raping women is wrong.
Democrats, so long as you’re liking and tolerating Chum’s site, this is the depth to which you want OC political discourse to sink. No apology will be found here for keeping our site free of the occasional pollution.
(Republicans, if you’re liking and tolerating Chum’s site, you’re very clever and sneaky about trying to wreck our party. Please stop anyway.)
My opinion, the City owes you a financial apology.

Which applies to what?
*The Co-Opter in Chief….of course Dr. D. – but who knows really? Is LBJ still alive? How about Nixon? What about Gerald Ford? Next!
No, none of them are still alive. “Next” would be Jimmy Carter who is still alive.
Thanks for the plug.
I think “sh*tshow” would be the most commonly applied these days.
Thanks for the article worth plugging!
I’m hoping that Trump next says something like “fuckwad” to Senators, just to see how the media handles it.

You’re right, now it makes a lot more sense!
Who is up for another “Comment Like the Winships Open Thread?” It’s been five years…

I totally accidentally erased all our old TRASH comments the other day. (I thought I was emptying the SPAM folder.) So now all’s we got is NEW trash.
I don’t know if Chuck still posts on FibOC, but he’s got someone called “Fred” who blog-whores for him there.
Oh but the love is mutual… OC Dem now comments about me and Donna on Chuck’s “Sledgehammer” blog. Whatever gets them off…
So “OC Dem” is publishing now on a racist conservative pro-Trump blog.
The silence among almost all local Democrats about this perversion of “our brand” is deafening.
