Sentence of Jesus Aguirre commuted by Gov. Brown
(Hat tip to Mark Daniels for noting and publicizing this.)
I’d like to think the Vern’s reporting here may have played at least a small role in this. (Note: those who did nothing to help this young man have no standing to give an opinion on that.)
Mark notes that this commutation will officially take effect when California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, signs and gold-stamps this Document.
Welcome back into society, Jesus Aguirre — anyone out there have a job for him? — and congratulations to all of the activists who would not let hope for his release die.

About Greg Diamond
Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-retired due to disability, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally runs for office against bad people who would otherwise go unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that.
Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too.
He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
Great news, especially for his family! Impressive document of his educational accomplishments.
How special. Maybe the gang will let him back in…
I have met this young man’s father numerous times at events, he has worked tirelessly for his son. I am curious, this says Jesus has support in the community, including his wife. But he went to jail at age 16. Was he already married? Or did he get married while in prison? Just curious…
Her name is Yolanda, we spoke on the phone. She married him while he was in prison, I don’t know much more.
I plan to interview young Jesus soon, we’ll have a great story. Yes, Greg, my story http://www.orangejuiceblog.com/2013/03/appeal-filed-for-jesus-aguirre-the-buena-park-teenager-serving-life-in-pelican-bay/ read by 17,000 + did have an effect. But even more did California voters when they passed Prop 57, removing that mandatory 10-year gang enhancement. (as well as *gasp* George Soros, who funded that initiative!) Much more soon…
Bravo! Im happy to see this.
