Republican Attorney General Candidate David King is Serious But Stupid

I don’t tweet much — but when I do tweet I like to try to start a ruckus with some egotistical goofball I don’t even know.

Take, for example, the previously overlooked (by the Nooner, ergo by me) seventh candidate for California Attorney General, Big Law Partner David King, whose entry as the third vote-splitting Republican in the race may actually make the nomination of Orly Taitz, whom he wrongly and recklessly suggests “has probably never had a client” — public reports allege that she’s had an affair with a client, Mr. King, which may be more than you can say! — more likely.

King’s website features a tweet in which he pronounces the Employment Development Department — underfunded, understaffed, but still a critical lifeline for the unemployed, the disabled, and many other unfortunately people who apparently never intrude on David King’s comfortable life — as “a useless agency.”

I have had a lot of employment law clients, subsisting for months on unemployment in a rotten economy, who would disagree with that cavalier disregard.  So I wrote this to him.

I’ll continue in the Twitter mode of addressing him directly.

You are apparently ignorant of how EDD helps keep people afloat financially in times of grave crisis, Counselor.

That makes you a clueless fatuous dork.  Good luck in June — and in whatever you’ll be doing instead of campaigning in November.

UPDATE:  OK, now I feel kind of bad.  I shouldn’t have called him a Big Law Partner.  He worked for some “Big Law” (read large and prestigious) firms, but that’s in his past.  Now he’s a solo practitioner like me, albeit with an “of counsel” — and he does corporate work rather than litigation.  From the website of The King Law Group — or, as it pretty much seems to be, him:

That’s nice — but it’s not “front-runner to finish second” nice.  He’s still wrong (and cavalier) about the EDD, though.

But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
