“Instructor Man Hee Lee,” a Korean preacher and leader of the rapidly-growing movement “Tabernacle of the Testimony,” who claims to be the only person who can explain the Revelation (that hallucinogenic final book of the New Testament which NOBODY understands) will be explaining it all to you this Saturday morning at 10:30 at the Crystal Cathedral (now “Christ Cathedral” since its purchase by papist pederasts.) Admission is free. Man Hee’s literature darkly warns, “Anyone who is a believer WILL REGRET IT if he or she does not see it and believe it.” (And I’m pretty sure by “believer” they mean “Christian” – so that’s probably YOU, bud!)
So, his press girl called and asked me to do a write-up here, obviously hoping the great event would get that coveted “Orange Juice Bump.” She explained that Man Hee teaches that the world has already ended – long ago – and that we are now all in the afterlife. She said this would make a lot more sense once I hear Man Hee explain it in person. Then she begged me, whatever I write, to “Please treat Man Hee with respect.”
Mistake.
“I’m sorry, young lady, you called the wrong blog. We don’t do the respect thing here.”
“Well, then, please don’t write anything about him at all.”
“Sorry. Too late.” Click.
But, I probably have the Man Hee Flack overly worried now. A fairly straightforward report on his bio and philosophy is entertaining enough. Baby Man Hee was given his name, which translates “light,” by his grandfather, who foresaw, in a “precognitive dream,” the sun, moon and stars darkening, the heavens opening up again, and a “large strong light” then shining upon Man Hee’s Mom.
Claiming “royal ancestry” going back 500 years, but ALSO born into a “poor farming family” in Gyeongbuk Cheongdo, the fervently devout and bookish Man Hee fought on the frontlines of the Korean War – the same one Americans fought in – against the Northern Communists.
“One day during his night time prayer, a huge star came down for 3 and a half days, and thereafter, he met a heavenly person whom he swore his loyalty to God. After writing a pledge in his own blood swearing his loyalty, he walked on the path of faith.”
It’s not clear if it was THEN or LATER that, in his words,
“…I saw Jesus—the heavenly person—coming in the clouds of heaven. I fell face down before him and the Lord got on half of His knee and raised me up, where He then anointed me on the head and gave me His commands. Following His commands, I went back to the place called the Tabernacle Temple—the same place I initially left. It was at this place that I saw, heard, and received the revelation of the opened book and the fulfillment of the work for the entire book of Revelation.”
Apparently, it is prophesied in the Bible (somewhere) that “ALL people will learn the Truth from Instructor Lee.” According to his literature, tens of thousands of Christians hungry for the truth have been flocking to his events all over the world, while some “spit and yell” at his followers, and others have even tried to assassinate the man himself. Here is the website of Man Hee Lee and his “Tabernacle of the Testimony” : “lightmeetslight.com.”
And HERE is a website claiming that Man Hee Lee is “the leader of Shin Chon Ji (SCJ), a widespread cult in Korea, also known as ‘Serving Christ Jesus.’ He claims to be a ‘messenger’ of God, with new revelation of the Word … [His group] claims to be the New Jerusalem on earth and they believe that they are the only ones with the truth (a common characteristic of cults).”
*
Among the many other charismatic figures who have been fascinated with the Book of Revelation is my own son Dorian Yarnelson, a grad student in animation at UCLA, who recently created this teaser featuring the popular Whore Of Babylon for his larger work on the Apocalypse (oh – that’s the olde-fashioned name for the Revelation.)
But remember, ONLY Man Hee Lee has had the exact same vision as John of Patmos, so you will DEFINITELY COME TO REGRET IT if you don’t come check out his exegesis this Saturday. Remember, like Ozzy Osbourne with his booted fairies, you gotta believe Man Hee because “he saw it, he saw it with his OWN TWO EYES!”
NOW prepare – if previous online mentions of Man Hee Lee are any indication – for an avalanche of pro-Man Hee comments, from dozens of anonymous folks with similar IP addresses who “hadn’t heard much about him before” but are “fascinated now to see him in person!”
I thought at first glance he is Sun myung Moon. I am so disappointed that I have another engagement that day because I really could use some stand up comedy right about now. I think its hilarious that this guys pr assistannt asked the Orange Juice Blog to advertise the arrival of his Three Ring Circus. She apparently doesn’t read this blog – ever!
I am amused but not surprised that he picked the Crystal Cathedral, it does have convenient parking lot speakers just like the old drive-ins. I don’t know what would interest me more, his dazzeling sermon or the look on those “believers” face as they hang on his every word.
Expecting to be treated with respect by the Orange Juice Blog is a sure sign of a cult mentality.
Vern, you seem to know a lot more about this group than anyone directly involved in it will admit to. I currently live in Korea and I can’t take the subway or bus to work without tripping over people from the Mannam Volunteer Organization, which I’m fairly certain is connected to the Shin Chong Ji group/Man Hee Lee…am I wrong about this? They’re presenting themselves as this very positive civic group with lots of well-funded and apparently secular events for foreigners here in Seoul. It’s been my experience that religious groups in Korea can be pretty conniving when it comes to getting people on their radar and then incrementally expanding their influence. Can you shed any light on this?
Nah, I don’t hardly know nothing at all, except what I put into this article and then promptly forgot about it. There is a link up there to a blog which aims to expose the group. Check THAT out.
Yes, Mannam is connected to SCJ.
Minty, I know that this is an old stream, but I just re-read the opening article again, and I was really perplexed that the writer used the term “hallucinogenic” referring to the book of Revelation (“that hallucinogenic final book of the New Testament which NOBODY understands”).
Therefore, any Christian who holds the Bible as a sacred book should be very careful of anyone who declares any part of the Bible as “hallucinogenic.”
Perhaps it was meant as a joke, but I really hope that the writer would be more professional when writing about the Bible–a sacred book to about 1/3 of the world’s population.
That’s right, everyone should be “very careful” of me!
This group sounds like every other “snake oil” salesman that preaches salvation to any sucker dumb enough to send them 1,000s of dollars (via their credit card). You can find them on cable late night or Sunday morning. Or if you are so inclined drive down to the Crystal Cathedral where they will lie directly to your face! Don’t fall for anyone of these crooks fakery! They should all be in jail or serving in Congress with the rest of the whores!
Vern, the only link I see is for the actual site that promotes the group…I’d really like to find out more, so a site that seeks to out them as a cult would be enlightening. Like Americans, Koreans are especially susceptible to cults and there are apparently entire armies of these assholes (what with the Unification church splintering) mobilizing to defraud people of their money and sexually assault their daughters (see JMS cult). It worries me that such a destructive force is free to operate with impunity…and that they’re so aggressive and simultaneously deceitful. Worse than Scientologists, possibly.
Minty, are you familiar with Sun Myung Moon and his lucrative cult aka The Moonies?
http://www.trueloveking.net/
Everyone knows the Moonies. It’s on account of them that we have a kneejerk reaction that a burgeoning Korean religion with a charismatic leader could be a cult, and then we think “are we stereotyping Kroean religions because of the Moonies?”
The link I put up, which I thought showed the argument that Shinchonji is a cult, was this: http://shinchonjiandthebible.blogspot.com/
Now I’m looking at it again, and I’m not sure if it’s pro or anti shinchonji. Minty, let us know what you find out! I’m working on about seven other things. Enjoy Korea!
It’s anti, albeit from a Christian perspective, but they sure know their stuff. The post about the Lee’s history before starting this group is an interesting read. It lists the dodgy groups he was involved in with the past. And I see no reason to disbelieve any of that.
Minty Badger, thanks for linking to my cult site^^
And we can also look to their own material for cultic signs. Like this video mentions members leaving the group in Korea and going on to slander the group. The exact nature of the criticisms isn’t mentioned, but members are informed that they are all under the influence of Satan and if you want to go to heaven you’d best not even think about them or their criticisms. That represents a typical cult mindset. Outsiders evil, insiders perfect.
Come on. Dont spead bad word. If you’re truth believer u shouldnt behave like this.
Since the Moonies/Unification church have started to branch off to create their own highly profitable messianic cults (JMS, Hak Dahn, Church of God/Heavenly Mother, Jeong San Do, ect)…I’d say that I have at least a passing knowledge of their agenda. It’s not a stereotype or indeed racist to observe that there seem to be so many “second comings” that originate in South Korea…merely an objective reality.
I gave the website a cursory scan (I’ve read it before)…it’s clearly in support of Lee Man Hee’s revelations (only he has the answers, everyone else is simply lost).
My main reason for concern/curiosity is that cults and other profit-seeking religious entities with questionable agendas are now trying to silence people who don’t accept their beliefs uncritically by categorizing them as bigots. The Mormons and Scientologists are doing this in the US now (I’m an American, BTW) and I think that before people accept the growing influence of such groups with silent resignation, we ought to question their motives, their goals, and the finances of their leaders. Here in Korea, the situation is much the same and the atheists and free-thinkers, along with more moderate faiths, are currently forced to content themselves with taking potshots at this con-artists on the internet.
This guy has a very interesting site about Korean cults and their spread to the US and the globe: http://jmscult.com/forum/index.php
Critical thinking didn’t die with Christopher Hitchens.
The sad thing Minty is that when times get tough, some people turn to religion for answers and some find themselves getting involved with scam artists. I do not have problems with religion per se but I do take issue when scam artists rob unsuspecting “believers” of their hard earned money or social security money. On the other hand, people need to stop being gullible and do some critical thinking as well.
http://newsantaana.com/2012/07/21/korean-bible-instructor-man-hee-lee-packs-the-crystal-cathedral/
This may help you Minty
If you don’t have problems with religion, then read or listen to Christopher Hitchens’ “God is Not Great” and you’ll have a better idea with what history has been trying to teach us again and again about the sort of people who thirst for temporal power and riches via people’s faith (or search for faith). Religious people usually aren’t such bad folk…it’s the people who lead these flocks whose intentions I think people should constantly be questioning. I personally mistrust anyone who claims to have an exclusive relationship with a deity that claims they can offer salvation to others. There’s another great video, which is a really thoughtful and empathetic approach to convincing people that deconversion becoming a pretty normal thing: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/why-i-am-no-longer-a-christian/
It’s quite long, but the quality of thought that went into it is fantastic.
Man Hee Lee, only the words God has given you the word of revelation from heaven.
yes! only the words God has given you the word of revelation from heaven.
the words of Man Hee Lee seem sincere.
the words of Man Hee Lee seem sincere.
Any more of you cult freaks repeat each other I’m cuttin’ you off. Think of something ORIGINAL and stupid.
C’mon Vern, give ’em a break. At least they’re not dressing up the little boys in robes, having a slug of wine that they tell you is some dead guy’s blood, and then having sex with the unsuspecting children.
All of Man Hee Lee’s pictures do show him sporting a father of the bride boutonniere, which is a little weird. But, they seem rather benign, by comparison to some of the other freak shows.
the words of Vern Nelson seem sincere.
If we all send Man Te Hee Lee our money, maybe he could get that overbite fixed.
Stop thinking about Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Vern: you first!
Same orthodontist as Mr. Ed.
They made him look like he was talking by putting peanut butter in his mouth.
Are you referring to Mr. Ed or to Man Hee Lee?
So , which is more believable?
Mr Ed, or Mr Lee?
We know Mr Ed comes from a more stable family…
Mr Ed Lee is the newest Mayor of San Francisco. He seems to be doing a decent job.
Stop beating a dead horse.
The words of Mr. Ed seem sincerely peanut-butter-driven.
Vern you are the worst dumbest person i met. i bet someone like your dumb ass drop you when you were wrong. drop dead bitch
But… but… the words of Man Hee Lee seem sincere!
wow shin chon ji is very Biblical!!
LOL
Grow up vern
Wow, one of you is a human? OK, I’ll grow up!
The book of Revelation is being fulfilled in Korea.
Only by Lee Man-hee can testify it.
It’s OK so long as no one notices that the new Pope’s name is BerGOGlio.
Whoops.
Feel ~ that is God’s shepherd amen ^^
Ah… you’re right! His rod and his staff are comforting me as we speak.
Occurrence is not the word of truth.
You can say that again!
I have been attending one of the bible studies from Manhee Lee for over a year and have never been asked to pay a dime. I am actually encouraged not to pay as this is a “free gift of life”
He is the only person I know who has correctly explained the bible without any questions left unanswered
Praise the Lord
The words of the Manatee are often misunderstood.
Do not despair, keep listening.
why did the lord make a bible that needed to be explained?
I thought he was all prescient about stuff
Neil, that is a question that many Christians should think about. Have you ever read Daniel 12:8-10 or John 4:25? These kind of verses help us to realize that there is a time when God hides or seals His word, and a time when He allows the word to be opened or made known. I know that we sometimes read the Bible history and prophecy in the same way–but not all content in the Bible should be read the same way. For example, Hosea 12:10 says that God spoke to the prophets and told parables through them. So when reading prophecies, we must understand that prophetic content has parables in them–with actual realities appearing at the time of fulfillment (Jesus being the Passover Lamb, 1 Corinthians 5:7. When do we think the people realized that Jesus was the Passover Lamb? It does not say anywhere in the OT. Anyway, if you are sincerely seeking to understand God’s word more, keep asking such questions. You will be interested to hear how clearly SCJ explains with the Bible. Take care.
Peter believes the Scriptures play a vital role in the life of the Christian (see 1 Peter 1:22–2:3; 2:8; 3:1; 2 Peter 1:3-4, 12-21; 2:21; 3:1-7, 14-18). And he does not cease challenging us to turn our attention to the Scriptures. Even while Peter points us to the Word, he warns that some will seek to turn us from the truths of the Scriptures by perverting the teaching of Scripture. He does not look for false prophets to arise, apparently because prophets are no longer necessary. After all, God has spoken fully and finally in Christ (Hebrews 1:1-3; 2:1-4). But he does warn us false teachers will arise. They may not claim to reveal new truth from God on the level of Scripture, but they will seek to distort the Scriptures, twisting them to teach something vastly different from the intended meaning of the Bible.
awe erin. they haven’t asked you for money probably cause you don’t have any…..maybe all your furniture and crap are holed up in that garage or storage unit. and if it’s not yet….i’m sure it will be. what do they do with that stuff at 2am? where do they take it when they clear it out just to stock it up again? do you go to their “retreats” they like to have in the cloak of night during the wee hours of the morning? do you crawl on the floor on the hard cement or asphalt? run endless laps? duck walk? do you do your “duty”? how far into it are you? all that stuff they do in the middle of the night….well, people know. people aren’t stupid. just so you know. always know that someone is watching.
um, …. yeah!
“The time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.”
John 16:2-3
Make sure YOU KNOW THE FATHER, it’s better for you to do not say anything, rather than kill spiritually true believers of God and Jesus.
Yeah, no killing on this blog, you all hear?
Erin, thanks for the testimony. I also experienced the same thing. I remember a friend of mine was told by his pastor to “stop asking stupid questions.” However, it is quite the opposite, that I was encouraged to ask questions while learning with SCJ–and the answers again and again came from the word. My faith in Jesus deepened through the studies, and I even felt much closer to Him because of Jesus’ words being explained. At the first coming, those who believed in God accused Jesus of being demon-possessed (John8:48), so it is not surprising that even in this chat room, we are seeing the actual reality of what Jesus prophesied would happen according to the book of Revelation. But I pray that if anyone in this chat room is really interested in understanding God’s word, they would just try a few studies with SCJ and then logically check the scriptures.
Take care!
Come into the light revealed the darkness every sense …
Promises can not get anything without going through the shepherd.
[ 눅2:14 ] “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
Thank you for those kind words.
I wish manied people hear and realized this good teaching
he is awesome
I think that’ll be God’s will and his messenger will show it to us.
God buoy eyes that open word because comes to time and can find Chammokja to us ^^
Is thankful to God who send agreed shepherd.
You’re with God
Go shinchonji!!
Shincheonji, who has received the revelation of the New Testament, knows this well.
What are the characteristics of a religious cult?
American Family Foundation (14 Characteristics)
The group is focused on a living leader to whom members seem to display excessively zealous, unquestioning commitment.
The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.
The group is preoccupied with making money.
Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.
Mind-numbing techniques (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, debilitating work routines) are used to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).
The leadership dictates sometimes in great detail how members should think, act, and feel (for example: members must get permission from leaders to date, change jobs, get married; leaders may prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, how to discipline children, and so forth).
The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s), and members (for example: the leader is considered the Messiah or an avatar; the group and/or the leader has a special mission to save humanity).
The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which causes conflict with the wider society.
The group’s leader is not accountable to any authorities (as are, for example, military commanders and ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream denominations).
The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify means that members would have considered unethical before joining the group (for example: collecting money for bogus charities).
The leadership induces guilt feelings in members in order to control them.
Members’ subservience to the group causes them to cut ties with family and friends, and to give up personal goals and activities that were of interest before joining the group.
Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group.
Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members.
I realise I am opening up an old thread but I have just found this page and would like to correct a few of the incorrect things that are being said about Shincheonji on the internet. As an American living in Korea who actually has 1st hand experience of Shincheonji, I think it’s important people actually base their assessment of people/groups based on facts.
1. There is no asking for money at any point in the Bible study that they provide, which is actually more than can be said for the majority of Christian Bible studies/conferences/commentary books, so if charging you extortionate amounts of money for something makes it a cult… maybe you need to think again about some of the other people/churches out there?
2. Questions are actually strongly encouraged throughout the study. I was often told to check through my notes write questions down, and make sure I ask them, which I did continually.
3. Why are you using the ‘American Family Foundation’ definition of a cult? What should the true definition of a cult be? Shouldn’t it be according to God’s definition?
So when we look at a few of the things you mention, if someone believes in the Bible, they will quickly realise that many of the characteristics that define a ‘cult’ are actually incredibly Biblical. E.g. look at the history of the Bible, God always chooses one person to work through and speak to the people through, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Saul, David, Solomon, etc… Jesus. So in fact having a living leader isn’t necessarily the sign of a cult, what matters is what that person is saying, and if it is from God or not. To test that you must actually listen to what the person is saying firstly and see if it is according to the Bible.
Likewise just think about when Jesus came, how do you think the Jewish community viewed Jesus, weren’t the disciples ‘preoccupied with bringing in new members’ and ‘expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group’, in fact Jesus even said this regarding family members:
Matthew 10:34-36 – New International Version (NIV)
34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[a]
So actually you would have to say either your definition of a ‘cult’ is wrong, or Jesus and the disciples were definitely a cult.
You will now say I’m saying Man Hee Lee is Jesus, which I definitely haven’t said and nor has anyone in Shincheonji, he has never claimed to be Jesus. I am saying when God works on the earth He always uses one person. If you’re a Christian have you ever thought about if you were a Jewish person at that time how would you have known that Jesus was the messiah?
My hope is that even just one person will read this post and at least listen to what Man Hee Lee has to say, to see if what he says matches up with the Bible.
Well… at least that sounds like an actual person wrote it, not a spam-bot.
Andy Jones are you of his followers who believe he is immortal and you will live forever with him. I wonder what will happen when he passes away just like any other human being.
Mandu, I wonder what will happen to you if Man Hee Lee is the promised pastor (?) isn’t it better to listen and compare, the take a desicion? Rather than be a closed, ignorant believer who obey to what other people tells you?
Andy Jones, I couldn’t have wrote it better…
You lost me at “pederasts.”
To Anonymous. yes you’re right man hee lee is jesus, immortal, and will never die just like Sun myung moon another korean self proclaimed messiah who died at age 92 of pneumonia
In Hosea 4:6, God declares that His people are destroyed from a lack of knowledge. At the first coming, it is clear that God’s people lacked complete knowledge of the prophecies–please see verses such as 1 Corinthians 2:6-8 and Acts 13:26-27 (or even examples such as John 7:54-52, with carefully checking Matthew 4:12-16).
Today, Christian believers should assume that we are the closest generation living nearest the time of the second coming. Since Christians should be waiting for the second coming of Jesus Christ, by whom Christianity is named, should not Christians be examining and even having the book of Revelation memorized? Jesus promised in John 14:29 that He told us beforehand so that when it does happen, we would believe in the fulfillment. How well do Christians know what is supposed to happen–and even in the correct order?
Yes, I can testify to what Andy Jones typed above, as I had the same experience with SCJ. The entire Bible was testified to clearly, especially the book of Revelation. Thankfully, it was done without extra sources. It was a very logical study and I was able to confirm myself, using the scriptures.
When people type things such as “Man hee lee is Jesus,” that really shows that there is a lack of proper knowledge about SCJ in the world, and that leaders are also falsely informing about SCJ. I am sorry that people spread lies such as that, and I challenge everyone to check out what SCJ has to–rather than what others say about SCJ. Or if you want to see the negative, then please have the mindset of a judge, who should at least hear both sides–and with a Bible in the hand.
Christians ought to have a mindset that Jesus prophesied many different kinds of people would appear at the end times–please check the book of Revelation. For example, two witnesses are supposed to appear in Rv 11. Who are they? What do they do?
To be sure, Chairman Lee has requested those who slander SCJ to engage in a civil debate about Revelation. Let those who slander slander, but let the ones who are interested in learning about Revelation come and learn–shouldn’t studying Revelation be our duty as believers waiting for the second coming?
I am new to this website, so I don’t know how to edit 🙂 but my fingers slipped, and I had meant to type “John 7:45-52” above.
I have a brother who loves to read books to gain different perspectives, and so I challenged him to then listen to Revelation explained by Man Hee Lee. He did, and while he did not understand everything, he had to admit that Mr. Lee explained well. So if you are up to at least learning more about Revelation, then come and listen!
Everything is a cult… and everything is the religion.
After “cult” comes to power, “religion” appears… So when Christian cult came to power after Constantine, they became a religion.
And one very big difference… religion has a license for killing and brainwashing (abusive indoctrination), cults don’t !!!
watch out..Get down to scripture Vern.Dont be a sounding gong.Life of faith is not by instinct. We are not unreasoning like animals.break down and get down to scripture.Accept that u need to learn.
