The Occupy “movement” is demonstrating what happens when a directionless and leaderless group is left to fester and grow in its own stew. Murders, rapes, assaults, Molotov cocktails and a TB outbreak have occurred at various Occupy sites leading to further questions about the purpose of this rudderless mob.
Murder and Suicide
Clashes between Occupy forces and local businesses (ironically a part of the 99%) led to a series of fist fights that escalated into a mob beating that escalated into the murder of a local businessman in Oakland today. Mayor Jean Quan, who has been criticized by residents on both sides for issuing mixed signals about the local government’s willingness to tolerate the camp, issued a statement Thursday calling for the camp to shut down. “Tonight’s incident underscores the reason why the encampment must end. The risks are too great,” Quan said. “We need to return (police) resources to addressing violence throughout the city. It’s time for the encampment to end. Camping is a tactic, not a solution.” http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2099297,00.html#ixzz1dR7qmIQK
A man living in a tent in the Occupy “protest” outside of City Hall in Burlington, Vermont shot and killed himself last night. Deputy Chief Andi Higbee in Burlington told reporters the shooting raised questions about whether the protest would be allowed to continue. “Our responsibility is to keep the public safe. When there is a discharge of a firearm in a public place like this it’s good cause to be concerned, greatly concerned,” Higbee said. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2099297,00.html#ixzz1dR8HvxEM
Rape
Following the rape of two young women in Zuccotti Park, police have arrested a 26 year old Occupy protester that was working as part of the cooking staff for the movement. According to police reports, the alleged incident took place Saturday when an 18-year-old woman from Massachusetts and another 17-year old female complained of sexual assault. Despite the multitude of coverage regarding allegations of police mistreatment, the Occupy movement worked very hard to suppress word of the attacks. http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/10782794-the-rape-of-a-protester-occupy-wall-street-new-york-city
TB Outbreak
Early on in the Occupy movement it was clear that there had been little if any long term planning as health conditions rapidly declined. This lack of planning has produced much feared results in Atlanta. The Fulton County Health Department confirmed Wednesday that residents at the homeless shelter home to the occupy movement contracted the drug-resistant disease. WGCL reports that a health department spokeswoman said there is a possibility that both Occupy Atlanta protesters and the homeless people in the shelter may still be at risk since tuberculosis is contracted through air contact.
“Over the last three months were have been two persons who have resided in this facility who have been diagnosed with confirmed or suspected infectious tuberculosis (TB),” said Fulton County Services Director Matthew McKenna in a written statement to CBS Atlanta. “One of these persons was confirmed to have a strain of TB that is resistant to a single, standard medication used to treat this condition. All person(s) identified as positive have begun treatment and are being monitored to ensure that medication is taken as directed.” http://nation.foxnews.com/occupy-wall-street/2011/11/10/tuberculosis-outbreak-occupy-atlantas-base#ixzz1dRA767rR
Assault and General Violence
Protesters in Portland took ridiculous threats of violence to a new level when they threatened violence on a nearby business that ran out of pizza bread sticks. According to Portland police: “Occupy Portland protesters became enraged when Pizza Schmizza ran out of bread sticks to accompany their entree order. They threatened to assault employees and vandalize the restaurant.” The customers, cops noted, told a Pizza Schmizza employee, “Your job is bullshit, you know you work for a big corporation.” http://www.thesmokinggun.com/buster/occupy-portland-breadstick-threat-768532
In Los Angeles today, two women were arrested in different violent incidents that occurred when one of the women burned some one’s clothes as part of an ongoing fight at the Occupy camp on the South Lawn of City Hall and the second Occupy woman was arrested for attacking a man with a tent pole. A third arrest occurred this morning when a man was stopped while attempting to pour flourescent paint on an historic marble fountain. http://articles.latimes.com/2011/nov/05/local/la-me-1105-occupy-crime-20111105

great story gw . could you EVEN THINK if any of this happened at a tea party rally what would the media and the scholars of ocupy on this site would be saying .
I remember at tea party rallies, the humiliation of a handicapped man and the many displays of weaponry and threats of violence. The baggers have any number of douchebags to discuss, GO.
when and where?
We are not talking about old men dressing up in 1700’s gear, we are talking about rapes, killings, overdoses and NOW TB!
TB?
Jesus, whats next, out break of the black death or even worse, having to wash the frigging lot of them. They are scumbags, you know it and I know it. Not old funny guys in funny wee suits but serious whack jobs now spreading a really bad disease!
I knew this was going to be funny but I had no idea how unfunny it would become. We are seeing a side of Americans that we hope are not in big numbers!
You know, Michelle, poor people in this country have had multiple-antibiotic-resistant TB for quite some time now. I guess that you’ve never noticed before.
So, what do you think we should do — treat them? Isolate them? (Note: costs money.) Or just tell them where you live?
Welcome to the world of valuing public health programs!
Thats because the poor people are from mostly third world countries.
If the government would do its job and secure the border and monitor the health of people coming into this country, TB cases would go down considerably. I as an immigrant had to have a xray to rule out TB because in Europe we are given a BCG injection.
The reason why poor people are poor in this country is either they are illegal aliens, single mothers, drug addicts or just plain losers. The reason why there are poor people in third world countries, is because they have no excess to education, opportunities!
The reason we have an increase in disease is because the government and liberals care not about the health of this country and allow millions of unchecked people to flow over their border for money, power and to increase the size of government!
And by the way, yes they either take their meds which can be very hard on the body or be isolated for public health reasons!
“Plain losers,” you say, is why people are poor. Start reading the news.
I’m pretty sure that you have no basis for your confident assertions about who has TB. You think that they came here with it?
Nice to see you come out for government spending, though.
I have been without a penny in my pocket and never considered my self poor because I have seen the actual poor and they don’t have cars, cell phones or an SUV. It’s an insult for most people who work hard and do the right thing every day to be considered poor.
In this country, I have yet to see a skinny poor person! And with the OWS, those idiots have more tech on hand than most countries in this world!
And I do think the American government need to spend some of that taxpayer money, protecting the taxpayers by securing their border. And while we are on the subject, stop feeding the hispanic children, they are getting huge!
“People from many nationalities live in the United States- Increased numbers of foreign-born nationals come from places where many cases of TB occur, such as Africa, Asia, and Latin America. TB cases among foreign-born nationals now living in the United States account for more than half of the U.S. total.
Increased poverty, injection drug use, and homelessness-TB transmission is rampant in crowded shelters and prisons where people weakened by poor nutrition, drug addiction, and alcoholism are exposed to M. tuberculosis.”
MQ says:
Its common sense! Most people with TB either are illegal, homeless (usually nuts), HIV, etc…..
Aww come on, everyone, PUHLEEEEZZZZ stop feeding the troll. She is merely an uninformed and angry, bitter creature who feels no empathy or decency for any of mankind AND, frankly … should be indulged no further!!!!
LS.
Oh, I’m getting to you? Don’t you mean, don’t ask her any more questions, cause it’s making me think?
I feel sorry for people who want to help them selves, but the resources are spread mostly among people who are nothing but a waste of space. I do love humanity but I also see Americas population for what it is, strong, self reliant or a wasted life! For people in countries like Africa, the fact they are self reliant is a matter of life or death.
And quite frankly Hitler, who named you the hall monitor?
I would LOVE to take all the liberals out of this country and send them to India and then bring some poor, hard working indians here, but really liberals would not have a chance in a country without a hand out!
No, Tea Party rallies tended to involve threats to shoot people who weren’t there, like politicians or political opponents.
The Occupy movement regularly condemns violence — though you wouldn’t know that from this story. You see that guy in the black bandanna? That marks him as part of the “black bloc,” apparently a combination of anarchists and infiltrators who are not part of the movement. Sending out participants promoting violence has been a long-used trick of police agents in this country and elsewhere — think the COINTELPRO program — but Geoff will either profess or protect ignorance of this as well.
As far as sexual assaults, we do what we can to prevent, stop, and cooperate in punishing them. (For Geoff’s reaction to them, see his short essay on Herman Cain’s accuser, where he tries to destroy her based on nothing.) TB is bad — but whoever introduced it already had it and they could as easily have passed it around in any crowded location — such as a homeless shelter or a street where the homeless sleep. So let’s work on eliminating crowding in unhygenic spaces overall, right? What — that’s not what you meant?
This is why I look forward to Occupy Costa Mesa.
Greg, I love it when you try to sound like the sole official voice of the Occupy movement and I love it when you try and define who is a part and who is not. Very funny stuff.
As to the Herman Cain stuff, I simply reported that his accuser cashed in on her accusation against Cain and then immediately made another claim in her next job which she abandoned after they began investigating – that’s not “nothing.” http://www.orangejuiceblog.com/2011/11/cain-accuser-made-a-habit-of-seeking-pay-off/
Yeah, Greg, how can you be so dismissive of the official voices of Occupy who condone violence, sexual assaults, and TB? You big old busybody…
Hard block!
And when the Tea Party condemns and even chases off the rare loony who shows up (or is sent in by the libs), the MSM and lefties rail about violence, racism, and other non-existent aspects of the movement. Hypocrisy runs rampant, but that’s par for the course on the left.
I’ve addressed your Cain post in a comment here, Geoff. Enjoy.
Holy moly, Geoff — you think that defining agents provocateurs as not being part of one’s movement isn’t cricket or something? If someone stole a Shepard, Mullin ID card and went on a murderous rampage, would you try to say “uh, that wasn’t one of our guys,” or would you just grin and bear it?
My comments reflect my observations and nothing more except for when I am reporting on what happened at our General Assemblies. As I’ve said.
At a private company, you are hired by the company or you are not a part of the company – that is simple – stealing an ID card doesn’t make you a part of the company, it makes you a thief.
And stealing the identity of the Occupy movement in order to get off on being a poseur anarchist (and de facto ally of the likes of you, GW) does not make you part of the Occupy movement.
How do you steal the identity of something that has no membership rules, no agreed upon platform – do the protestors in any other City involved in Occupy know of the existence of the “general assembly” let alone recognize that the “general assembly” has the right to speak for anyone? Since the Occupy movement can’t even coherently agree what it stands for, I seriously doubt that it has any cohesion or agreed upon leadership. By the way, anyone promoting anarchy and violence is not my ally.
Geoff does have a point. How do you steal the identity of something that has no membership rules and no agreed platform?
My answer is you make up the rules as you go along just like they do in the Republican and Democratic Parties. I do sense that they want to be different than those two dysfunctional organizations that have more confusing rules and regulations on membership and can’t agree on stuff that should be on their platforms.
I’m sure rapes, spreading of diseases (primarily syphilis and VD) and assaults have also happened within the confines those two organizations as well. If you Democrats and Republicans tell me they haven’t, then you must believe that all politicians are bastions of morality and virtue like Dick Ackerman or Boss Agran. Or maybe you believe in Tinkerbell, who knows? The only difference between the major political parties and the Occupy movement is that the two major political parties have the financial means to sweep that crap under the rug. And the only reason that these stories are leaking out are because the powers that be that control the establishment are scared shitless about being called on their bullshit.
So if someone who promotes violence is not your ally, does that mean that people like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld who promote a violent and cruel interrogation tactic like water boarding are not your allies either? Or what about your old boy Old Man McCain who was singing “Bomb, Bomb Iran?” You don’t condone him either, right?
All Occupations I know of, from Zuccotti Park onward, have General Assemblies. We didn’t invent it.
“How do you steal the identity of something that has no membership rules?” By acting in bad faith. Can we agree that acting against the wishes and interests of the decision-making bodies (ad hoc as they are) of the movement is “acting in bad faith”?
Occupy movements agree on this much: we are non-violent. It should be obvious why this is.
I didn’t say “ally,” I said “de facto ally,” the same way as the Tea Partiers who substituted Christine O’Donnell for Mike Castle as the GOP nominee last year in Delaware’s Senate race were my “de facto allies.”
I wonder how the dog that the Occupy Denver General Assembly voted to lead the movement feels about the problems facing the Occupy movement?
Would that be admissible in any legitimate court, Geoff? Of course not, but you have no problem smearing the woman here.
But political correctness would prohibit any discussion of whether the accusations are true and legitimate and that is just as wrong as assuming that it is the woman’s fault.
Geoff conflates seeking the truth with “political correctness.” I like it!
I’m happy to let the legal process sort it out. And it did. The NRtA gave a non-trivial settlement — and not because it couldn’t afford a lawyer.
Of course not tea party rallies are over in 2 hours if anyone even shows up anymore.
The occupy movement is a worldwide movement.
The murder in Oakland was not at the Occupy movement and had nothing to do with the protesters.
Thank you, I don’t know much about it yet. Do you have a link?
The link was in the story. Remarks that this “has nothing to do with the Occupy movement” are simply not supported by current police reports.

When the homeless are left in the shadows, rape, TB, Drug Use and Suicide happen but no one takes notice. OWS did not cause these events it only provided a back ground that makes others take notice of what happens on a daily basis in our society.
Tea Party Gun Fest, threats of violence, and all were encouraged acts from the organization not anomalies from individuals attracted to the demonstrations. Who knows what sort of Communicable Disease the Baggers have. I wonder how many have STD’s and TB and don’t know it.
I love it when the True Believer will never answer a question directly but will deflect away in an effort to distract from fault.
As to the Tea Party, please provide a single documented time when the Tea Party made “threats of violence, and all were encouraged from the acts of the orginization.” Also, if you are trying ot paint Tea Party members as bad folks its ironic that you call them “baggers” a deragotory term meaning to put your tesiticles into someone elses mouth and then accuse them of having STD’s. The TB conditions are ACTUAL and a DIRECT RESULT of the actions of the Occupy movement – we arent commenting on the unrelated medical conditions that Occupy members have.
Murders, rapes, TB, Assault and General Violence…all occuring OUTSIDE Occupy rallies as well. Are people outside of Occupy sites a “rudderless mob” as well?
Great non sequitor – keep up the good work anon.
It’s not a non-sequitor. It’s a statement that exposes the faulty, illogical conclusions of the author of this post.
But nice try.
SequitUr, boys. And, yes, not.
That’s some pretty good yellow journalism there, Geoff. Reminds me of the late 60’s when there were protests against the Vietnam war and the approach was to distract attention from the real story. You know, like now, the ruination of the middle and lower classes. Your type never changes.
How about something surprising–like writing about Chevron’s destruction of an entire ecosystem in Ecuador? Would that get you into trouble, though?
Since “yellow journalism” is reporting with “little or no factual support,” you may have confused your terms here Rapscallion. Everyone of the events happened within the past week with most of them happening today.
That’s not the point, and you know it.
So what IS the point – You lied by saying that my post was “yellow journalism.” “Yellow journalism” means factually unsupported reporting, Every fact is supported by a link and is frankly beyond factual controversy. Is that clearer?
There are infiltrators stirring up trouble at both the Tea Party rallies and the Occupy events.
It would be stupid to think otherwise.
Yeah, infiltrators, that must be it, infiltrators.
Yeah. These “black bloc” a-holes, they don’t even have the brains to be paid provocateurs, they just like to cause trouble. The “Occupy” movement has been developing methods of “self-policing” against these troublemakers, I was looking at some articles and videos last week, I’ll see if I can find them.
They are not us.
“They are not us.” I don’t mean this in any nasty way – who is “us,” who decides who can be “us,” who is not “us” and who decides who is not “us?”
Come to a General Assembly and find out, Geoff. If you give me advance warning, I will try to guarantee your safety. (Except from TB.)
We now have procedures in Irvine for expelling people from the camp for endangering the existence of the camp. We’re sending them to work in your mailroom.
That’s been the subject of many discussion here lately. “Us” are those who are being squeezed by the greedmongers. You know, Republicans.
Well, let’s be objective now. As Vern has pointed out, and I certainly agree with him, too many of our Democratic elected officials have given in to the temptation to be bought and paid for by corporate interests. THAT’S part of the problem…the corrosive effect of money in politics is SO systemic, SO pervasive, and no political party can claim to be immune from it.
The tactic of using infiltrators and provocateurs is as old as history itself. You tell me about any protest that involves violence, and there will be evidence of outside agents.
If you refuse to believe this, then you are saying all of the kooks that showed up at the Tea Party events with the very racist posters and pictures of Obama in black face and bones through his nose were grass roots Tea Baggers. You really think that those people weren’t sent there to stir up trouble and debase the movement?
If you want to know who would do such a thing, try the LAPD (long history of infiltrating the LA gangs) the FBI and CIA ( Google the Watts Riots). The US military (Special Ops), a nice example would be Cuba……
The US has a long history of using this approach, and they didn’t invent it.
Run liberals, run! Run from the truth for your life and your reputation and your dimwit brains depend on it. Run!
If you have a coherent point, make it. Otherwise, get off the porch.
I’ve made my point and you obviously got it, i.e. can’t justify these happenings at OWS so “Run! Liberals run!” I’m speaking for the victims here and for the future victims. Looks like liberals lack compassion afterall.
i think i read about this in a book, i think it was called “lord of the flies”
Yes, you probably do think that.
us being you know the ones that are trying to be squezzed out by the BLOOD SUCKERS . YOU KNOW DEMOCRAPS . UNIONS , ENTITLEMENTS , GIVE ME OF WHAT YOU GOT .
Ever heard of the term “broken record”?
Aw… just realized in another decade or two nobody will be left alive who knows what a “broken record” sounded like.
A scratch in a vinyl record – an LP, or a 45 single – could cause the same few seconds of music to repeat endlessly.
I fear we are going to lose that phrase. 🙁
There’s always the internet (although the “loop” feature wouldn’t work for me).
http://www.freesound.org/people/jonezy1476/sounds/34986/
yes anon broken record the 1,000 stories on ocupy zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Haha, remember Geoff Willis? The last really hardcore rightwing propagandist we had on this blog. (Terry Crowley was earlier, and worse.)
This story popped up again because some moronic rag called the White Rose cited it as a source.
Ah, Geoff “Donkey Hooker” Willis! I hope he’s doing well.
He proved his value to our site with this post.
In the following week’s Weekend Open Thread, I touted us as “Your Top Source for Shape-Shifting Hooker News!”
With Jeanette & Inge back, and a Willis story popping up, it feels like 2011 all over. Such an innocent time!
Don’t forget “skallywag” and that bizarre Slovakian head case.
