Orange Juice Links, 10-29-31

When Vern hired me (and I should note, boss, that I have still not received my magic beans) to use my years of experience at Daily Kos to pour some fresh fizz in the Orange Juice — an arrangement that, I should stress, I am completely making up out of whole cloth — I was given pretty much free rein to come up with ways to entertain, enlighten, and amuse the denizens of this here establishment.  Almost a month later, I have a good idea of what people are like here — some nights I wake up screaming about being chased by some mutant creature with the mind of Geoff (“Ge’off”) Willis, the personality of Newbie, and the syntax, vocabulary, and spelling of Stanislaw Fiala — but I have little sense of what you’re like outside this site.  Specifically, what interests you?  What do you read on the Intertubez?  In some of your cases, do you read?  (In some cases, can you read?)  What would you like others to read?

And so: here it is, the first of what (if it works) may be a series of Orange Juice Links posts.  You do read things in other parts of the internet.  Admit it, you do.  What do you wish other people would join you in reading?  Post the links below.  Any links to unsafe or illegal sites will be met with hellish retaliation; any links to NSFW (that’s “not safe for work,” Stanley) should be labeled as such, any links to outlandish and distressing political screeds are, well, pretty much what we should all expect.

But let’s see what we’re all like, if one can put any faith in the old (around three minutes old, by the time you read this) statement: “You are what you read.”  And, of course, we’ve been known to comment on each others’ thoughts; it is only to be expected.

About Greg Diamond

Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that. Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too. He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.) His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
