Congratulations John Lewis and Matt Cunningham. Democrat Tom Daly, a career political hack, is now in prime position to run for Supervisor Bill Campbell’s seat in 2012, when Campbell finally terms out.
Daly, who was reelected as O.C. Clerk-Recorder, has two years to move further east into Anaheim Hills, and into Campbell’s third district.
The plan will be for the GOP vote to be split, which won’t take much prodding. Guaranteed that there will be multiple Republican candidates – they will split the red vote and put Daly in office.
Lewis snatched up dozens of Republican slate mailers in Daly’s reelection campaign, fooling the voters into thinking that Daly was the Republican candidate. The real GOP candidate was Hugh Nguyen.
What about Harry Sidhu? Poor Harry got fooled by Supervisor Janet Nguyen. She, Campbell and Lewis prodded him to run against Shawn Nelson, as a carpetbagger. It was a stupid plan and it backfired on Tuesday, in the primary.
Sidhu will get creamed in November, by Nelson, in the run-off, and he will be done in politics, paving the way for Daly to ascend to Daly’s seat.
Keep on eye on Carolyn Cavechee to run for Campbell’s seat as well. And good riddance to him for his pension spiking votes.
DeVore might be eyeballing this as well, as might recent AD70 BIG loser Jerry Amante and the other loser Stephen Choi.
I’d like to see some fresh blood in this, like Jeff Lalloway. Real Dark horse: Allan Bartlett.
campbell can’t retire too soon,
Agreed that Campbell sucks!
And you just scratched the surface. I expect about six to eight GOP candidates. That will split the vote and put Daly in power.
Bartlett lost his Central Committee race on Tuesday, if I recall correctly. He is a good guy but that doesn’t generally do much for you at the ballot box…
Better to check the Registrar’s website first…Barlett’s holding on:

The big losers above were Holder and the dinosaur Dick Nichols.
Awesome! I hope Bartlett wins. He is one of the few decent Reeps left in the OC GOP.
Art, as you point out, Daly doesn’t live in the 3rd District and doesn’t seem to have the stomach for a Supervisorial campaign. The Third is a huge district and Anaheim is a very small part of it.
Still if you really want to see a likely candidate from Anaheim you need look no farther than current 4th District candidate – Harry Sidhu.
Zenger’s right — the serial campaigner won’t let this one pass without a shot at it — if he’s got enough money (what the hell, Irvine needs a few more Burger Kings). Given what he’s already cost the unions by losing in the 4th, one wonders if they would back him again as they’ll likely look for a more successful stooge that might speaka de Englais. Still, Harry’s got no shame and apparently can stand to have his ego crushed again, so we shouldn’t put it past him.
I would love to see Daly run for 3rd District Supervisor. Hugh Nguyen deserves to be the next
Clerk-Recorder.
Even though he got beat he almost received 80,000 votes. That’s not bad especially running against a career politician like Tom Daly who also lied to the voters about being a Republican on the slate mailers.
The only reason Daly would run is because he would be guarranteed a win. Tom has quit 2 races for sup before which that alone should be a red flag. But he will run if there is nothing at risk. He will run because if he loses, he will still have a job as the lowly and uninfluential Clerk-Recorder. He is no Lou Correa who ran and won by alitle over 1000 votes for state senator. Daly has no cahones but will run if its safe. I’m ready to tag him as a carpetbagger.
