“Despite a steady stream of court challenges, Santa Ana is poised to double the number of automatic cameras it has watching over intersections for red-light runners,” according to the O.C. Register.
This despite recent evidence that we posted here, indicating that the City of Santa Ana is losing money on this program. And despite the fact that the courts just don’t like these cameras.
I think that the Santa Ana City Council looks at this as a way to help increase law enforcement, but I think if that is the case, they are off-base.

Red light cameras are good and illegal drugs are bad.
Art, a few years ago some guy ran a red light at Flower and Civic Center and hit a church van carrying 15(?) people. Many were injured and some died. The driver of the borrowed car, who was racings another when he ran the RED light left the country to hide from responsibility.
Around the same time my grandsons other grandfather was killed in a drug transaction near SAHS.
Many of the deaths due to the illegal drug business involves people who made a choice to be involved.
Many of the deaths from RED light running, the innocent had no choice.
I think you may change your mind on both RED light running and decimalization of (party) drugs, the next time some Stoned Jerk blasts though a RED light and T-bones you.
cook,
I teach defensive driving. I advise my students to NEVER blast through a green light without pausing first and making sure a red light runner isn’t coming.
Studies show these cameras are not effective and they actually cause accidents. Moreover, our city is LOSING money on this equipment.
It is past time to say adios to these cameras!
