Why did Andrew Do really leave Supervisor Janet Nguyen’s office?

Now that Janet Nguyen is finished, Andrew Do has quit working for her

Andrew Do, who played a central part in the election saga of Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen in 2007 and then became her chief of staff, will leave the fifth floor this coming week, just months after Nguyen took over as chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors,” according to the Voice of OC(EA) blog.

Do says he is leaving to return to his private law practice.  I don’t believe that.

In fact, check out his website, www.andrewdolaw.com, and you will find that there is nothing there.  It is under construction.  If he was really leaving to go work there, the site would be up and running now, wouldn’t it?

The California State Bar, incidentally, states that Do’s office is located at the offices of another law firm, Briggs and Alexander, in Anaheim.  They don’t have a website at all.  And the Bar does not indicate what sort of law Do practices.  I wonder if he will be doing any criminal defense work? You may recall that the Voice of OC(EA) blog ripped Shawn Nelson for being a criminal defense lawyer.

So why is he really leaving Janet Nguyen’s office?  Let’s explore what might really be happening at Team Janet:

Team Janet – coming apart at the seams!

  • The Lee’s Sandwiches franchise in Stanton, that Do and Janet’s husband, Tom Bonikowski, opened is tanking.  Word is it has lost money from day one.  It has been busted by the O.C. Department of Health repeatedly.
  • Rumor has it that Do is the one running Janet’s alleged political consulting business.  Do reportedly told Quang Pham that he and Janet would help him win the primary election in the 47th Congressional District, for the princely sum of $160,000.  Obviously you cannot have a County worker running around playing politics.  It is illegal.
  • Do was supposedly the mastermind of the failed attempt by Janet to take over this year’s Black April event in Little Saigon.  He may be leaving so he can also be the scapegoat.  Or, he may realize that Janet is now finished in Little Saigon.  Best to move on to other things…
  • I have also heard rumors that the FBI is conducting an investigation in Little Saigon, that has included interviews with various Viet politicians.
  • And lastly, Do’s wife, Cheri Pham, is an uncontested candidate to replace Judge Peter Polos.  Maybe Do is quitting Nguyen’s office just to make sure his wife doesn’t get caught up in whatever trouble Janet is in?

The next question is who will replace Do as Janet’s Chief of Staff?  I doubt it will be Matt Harper.  Maybe Janet will hire O.C. Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly, if Daly loses to Hugh Nguyen, in the June primary.
