Shaw Receives Early Sierra Club Endorsement

Former Planning Commissioner Joe Shaw has received the endorsement of the Sierra Club in his race for Huntington Beach City Council. Shaw is the only non-incumbent city council candidate in Orange County to receive an early endorsement from the Sierra Club.

“We believe Joe Shaw demonstrated an outstanding commitment to environmental protection and will continue to do so in the future,” said Alex Mintzer, chair of the Sierra Club’s Orange County Political Committee. The Sierra Club endorsement means a lot to both Sierra Club members in Huntington Beach and to the general voting public because it sends a message about Shaw’s strong interest in and record of accomplishments on environmental issues.

“Many of those running will claim to be ‘green’ candidates, but the Sierra Club endorsement is the real environmental seal of approval,” said Shaw.

Shaw has also garnered other important environmental endorsements. He also received the early endorsement of the Orange County League of Conservation Voters. Shaw has been endorsed by other noted local environmentalists including former Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook, president of the Post Carbon Institute, Jennifer Robins, president of the Amigos de Bolsa Chica, former Mayor Connie Boardman, and former Planning Commissioner Flossie Horgan.

Shaw is a member of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust board of directors and is a docent at Shipley Nature Center. For more information, go to www.joeshawforhb.com.
