“A rally of about 40 white supremacists Saturday on the lawn of Los Angeles City Hall drew hundreds of counter-protesters, sparked brawls in which two people were severely beaten and ended with crowds of demonstrators hurling rocks and bottles at police and departing supremacists,” according to the L.A. Times.
The rally, conducted by the National Socialist Movement, prompted the Los Angeles Police Department to go on tactical alert as counter-protesters from throughout the region flooded into downtown L.A. They included a wide assortment of African American, Jewish, Latino, immigrants-rights and anarchist groups.
Our friend Naui Huitzilopochtli drove up to L.A. to represent the O.C. against the Nazi thugs! So did many Orange Juice readers, including Sharon Tipton, who enjoyed laughing at the stupid Nazis.
Naui also captured a flag from one of the Nazi’s – pictures after the flip, courtesy of Chris Xitco, who also shot the video above.
According to a commenter on Facebook, some of the Nazis couldn’t start their car afterwards and had to push it away…they got pelted by bottles the entire time and had to shield themselves with Nazi signs!
Naui captures a Nazi flag!
At least one Nazi got beat up, according to published reports. The cops dragged the bloody racist off to the hospital.
When the Nazis complained that Latinos clog up the streets, a counter-protestor let him have it, “You’re being protected by black and Latino cops, you cowards!”
Sharon versus the Nazis!
According to eyewitnesses, the police did a good job of restraining themselves while protecting the Nazi thugs.
I could have sworn this was video of back to school night at Century High School in Santa Ana!
Hey Art, why no comment on the severe beatings your buddies inflicted on two people who allegedly were there supporting the Neo-Nazis? Are you advocating physical violence in response to peaceful, authorized marches and protests?
While you don’t address the rock-throwing or severe beating other than relaying what others reported, it is disgusting that you do not denounce it, and your exclamation point and “bloody racist” characterization indicate that you support those actions. You need to clarify immediately Art.
Rob, can you provide a link so we know what you’re talking about?
You’re not referring to that story last week from new orleans are you? Cos that’s already fallen apart as not being politically motivated. (Memories of Ashley Potts’ Backward B)
Vern, I’m talking about THIS post. Art is the author, and he writes the following:
Exclamation point: “According to a commenter on Facebook, some of the Nazis couldn’t start their car afterwards and had to push it away…they got pelted by bottles the entire time and had to shield themselves with Nazi signs!”
“Bloody racist”: At least one Nazi got beat up, according to published reports. The cops dragged the bloody racist off to the hospital.
The Los Angeles Times reported on the counter-protester violence here: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-white-supremacist18-2010apr18,0,4043821.story
That people came to protest facism, violence and racism is good – that many of those same people displayed the EXACT same tendencies and resorted to violence, including rock and bottle throwing at the LAPD, is outrageous, disgusting and must be strongly denounced.
Vern,
I’m referring to THIS OJ post, by Art. “Counter-protestors stand up to Nazi thugs in Los Angeles”
The only thugs in attendance were the ones who severely beat two men and who attacked the LAPD with rocks and bottles. Sure looks like Art is endorsing those activities.
Here is what I am talking about, the exclamation point:
“…some of the Nazis couldn’t start their car afterwards and had to push it away…they got pelted by bottles the entire time and had to shield themselves with Nazi signs!”
The “bloody racist” comment:
“At least one Nazi got beat up, according to published reports. The cops dragged the bloody racist off to the hospital.”
However, as the LA Time noted, one of the men beaten down wasn’t clearly a Nazi supporter, and his sign could be interpreted as being AGAINST the Nazis. He was beaten, tried to get away, then chased down and beaten again.

Seriously, this was a brutal attack, and needs to be strongly condemned. Even the photographer who shot the video posted here can be heard saying that the protest needs to be toned down.
