How times change. In 2008, Charlie Crist was on McCain’s short list for V.P.
“Florida Gov. Charlie Crist has told two close associates that he will leave the Republican primary to run as a third-party candidate for the U.S. Senate,” according to Politico.
Crist will now face off against “Rep. Kendrick Meek, a Democrat, and Republican former state House Speaker Marco Rubio.”
This is bad news for Rubio, who is a favorite of the Tea Party movement. However, Crist is now wandering into uncharted waters.
Will Crist inspire similar indepedent candidates in California? Or will he crash and burn like so many other RINO’s?
Crist, by the way, was brought to Orange County, to speak to the OC GOP, in 2008, by Party Chair Scott Baugh. Crist was actually booed at the dinner, which was the OC GOP’s Flag Day event.
This year, Baugh is bringing in Rubio, to speak at the Flag Day dinner in June. Makes sense given that Baugh is now kissing up to the Tea Party. I wish I had a picture of Baugh with Crist!
Yeah- an independent liberal!
I liked a few months ago when Crist was wondering out loud why Republicans were deserting him; after listing all his actual positions, he concluded, “You literally can’t get more conservative than me. What’s the problem – I’m just not ANGRY ENOUGH?”
I think his independent run is good, for everybody. The GOP just has too small a tent these days. And he really isn’t a Democrat, as I would also say about Lieberman or Ben Nelson.
