Just off the wires. OC Weekly’s Scott Moxley has reported that Quang X. Pham will not compete in the GOP primary race to challenge incumbent (D) Loretta Sanchez.
Following is the headline and excerpts from the OC Weekly report:
Quang Pham Leaves Race To Unseat Rep. Loretta Sanchez
By R. Scott Moxley, Friday, Mar. 5 2010 @ 9:00AM
“If Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez hoped to enjoy watching a wildly bloody primary to determine her November Republican general election opponent, that scenario has become less likely this morning. Quang Pham–the well-spoken, first-time candidate who has been vying for the GOP nomination against Assemblyman Van Tran, Tan Nguyen and Kathy Smith–announced today that he’s no longer a candidate.
“Winning a seat in Congress requires a full commitment of time and money,” said Pham, who served as a Marine before becoming CEO of his own company, Lathian Health. “Yet, my employees and my business now need all of my focus. So, after careful consideration, I have decided to suspend my candidacy in the race for the Republican nomination in the 47th Congressional District.”
A second factor influenced Pham’s decision. “The dynamics of the race have changed significantly,” he said.
That is, in part, a reference to Tan Nguyen’s recent surprise entrance into the primary. Nguyen is the controversial but crushed 2008 Sanchez challenger awaiting federal trial for allegedly violating laws in that race by secretly funding a voting-could-get-you-arrested letter sent to households with Latino names. Tran, Pham and Nguyen would have likely diluted electoral support, leaving Smith the sole beneficiary.

Oh gosh… that’s a surprise!!
Art, what say you? One word comes to mind: Quitter!!
Wow. I wonder if this is what he was talking to Do about yesterday.
All hands on deck for Loretta now; Tran and Tan are pure evil.
Perhaps yesterdays Blog Postings on O.J. hit too close to home and Joe advised him to get out.
Vern you forgot to list Smith on your list!
“Tran and Tan are pure evil”
Is Tan running as a Republican? If so, Van Tran will be humiliated when defeated by Tan. This evil bastard Tan has deep pocket and will buy his way to Congress.
Q is a good man. I wish him well in his future endeavors.
He “suspended” and not dropped out.

Smith will probably beat Tran for the nomination, if Tran even files to run. He has seen the polling and knows he will be humiliated by Sanchez. Sad for the party.
Vern you forgot to list Smith on your list!
She’s not evil. I just don’t take her seriously.
Larry: Gracias for crediting us with the story!
Gustavo,
We at the OJ like to give credit where credit is do. The fellas over at Blue County only shill for those that shill for them, thus the credit to Marty Wiksol and the “Rag”ister.
I really don’t understand why you even bother with those babosos.
You may be right Vern.
The funny story is that Wisckol didn’t even break the story–it would’ve been Dena Bunis…
Dear Sean/Art,
What happens now to the money Pham raised from people? Does he have to give it back to them? How do people feel when they give large sums of money to a guy to run for office and then the guy quits? I remember a Hispanic Morman guy who ran against Lorreta a few years ago who got caught at a Strip Club or something like that I think who won the nomination and then quit. I’ve always wondered what happens to the money they raise. Or Gaddi Vaszuez who was a Supervisor in Orange COunty when it went BK. He had almost a Million bucks I think. What happened to his money? Keep up the great work OJ!
Political Novice,
I imagine Pham will save it when he runs again in 2012. By then Van Tran will be a distant memory…and he will be known as that guy who lost to Katherine Smith in the primary in 2010.
Art,
Now that Pham has quit you 86ed the Top Gun Jet photo and now use one with him in a dark suit. Why?
Political Novice,
The top gun picture was relevant to that story. No reason to use it on this one…
Runs again in 2012??? Yeah Art, uh huh, sure… I can’t wait to vote for the quitter in the next election.
“By then Van Tran will be a distant memory…and he will be known as that guy who lost to Katherine Smith in the primary in 2010.”
If Tran is defeated by Smith, it would still be better to have fought and lost, than to quit. Tell me Art, aren’t you just a bit disappointed? Not so much disappointed that Pham quit, but disappointed in Pham as a man. Does it shock you that he’s a quitter. Remember Art, not long ago, I wanted to meet this guy to see what kind of a man he is. Well, I got my answer.
*Who is Janet supporting again?
….and Ed Royce?
Lam,
A good soldier knows when to stand and fight and when to keep his powder dry for the next round.
When General Washington retreated did that make him a quitter? No. It helped him win the war.
What you are lacking, in judging Pham, is context. Pham figured out that the OC GOP leaders weren’t going to help him if he won the primary. That would make it damn hard to raise money in the general election.
So better to let Smith finish off Tran then run in 2012 when the GOP will be taking out Obama.
I think it is a smart approach. And it will be high comedy to see Tran go out this way!
You’re spinning Art and you know it!!!
Lam,
Can’t help it! Just too good at this… 🙂
Janet Nguyen is Retarded!!!!
janet, nic, andrew, van, andy, dina, diep, and their cronies have no life. if you go to regular viet events, you see the same idiots and the same fatigue wearning gungho vietnamese soldiers singing the anthem of a dead country. hell even lou and loretta know how to bow their heads. their all bloodsuckers off the public payroll.
“Can’t help it! Just too good at this… :)”
Yes you are Art. That’s why I keep coming back. Dang, this blog is addictive:))
It’s unfortunate that Quang pulled out. There’s no guessing what Quang’s meeting with Janet’s (who was holding endorsement) goon was about (envision a carrot on a stick). I’m sure after that mtg., Tan Nguyen’s entrance (what a joke) into the race and obvious GOP interloping he was smart enough to bow out. He realized that the 47CD is thriving with corrupt, professional politicians. And that the Republicans party bosses don’t want to win. Too bad we, the constituents, are too stupid to see the big picture. You investigating reporters at the OJ need to dig a little instead of scratching the surface. I’m sure there is more than dirt and alot of “juice”.
RoverDude,
There is more to the story, but nothing I am at liberty to report for now. Suffice to say that you are on the right track…
Rover dude.
I may have more to say after today. Stay tuned.
Pray tell…..
I can’t wait. I suspect some big and many bombs to be dropped soon.
Rover Dude.
Clarrification. Quang “suspended” his campaign and still has time to get back on the playing field if he wishes.
That aside, if he does make it official that he will not run this cycle let me say that I respect his decision. There is a lot more to the strategy and tactics of planning and winning in primaries and general elections. Circumstances may force us to change direction during the long campaign cycle.
Enough said for now.
Lam Pho.
With regard to meeting Quang you can do as I did. I have seen Quang at three different events. As such, he is surely not hiding from you or anyone else.
What would you like Art or myself to do?
Set up a personal audience?
re: lampho
Don’t be mean! That is really rude. He got far in the race. I would like to see you run for Congressman or Mayor or etc.
John.
I was not being mean with my reply to lampho.
If anyone has specific questions for a candidate that is relevant to his or her credentials, or skeletons in their closet, I will surely follow up. But, to simply criticise without telling me what issues you wish covered is meaningless.
