O.C. Supervisor Chris Norby has quietly launched his campaign website for the O.C. Clerk-Recorder’s office. It is not bad. And he already has a ton of endorsements, including a few Democrats, such as Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido and Anaheim Union High School District Trustee Jordan Brandman. Now we know who in Orange County falls within John Lewis’ sphere of influence…Lewis is listed as the Chair of Norby’s campaign.
Norby makes the case that his political experience will make him a better clerk-recorder than anyone else. He goes out of his way, in the video above, to mention Tom Daly, the current Clerk-Recorder.
Norby has always been easy to get a hold of and that spirit continues on his website, where he lists his cell number and personal email address.
In related news, Norby’s opponent, Hugh Nguyen, recently announced that Lincoln Club member Dale Dykema has endorsed him.
Nguyen has experience, as the former Deputy Clerk-Recorder, that Norby lacks. But Norby is going to bank on his name I.D. and Lewis’ connections. It should make for an interesting race.
I personally feel that this office is a bad fit for Norby and I have said so. But he isn’t pulling out and Nguyen has dug in as well. We will be following this race closely…
Do any of these guys (and girls, Claudia) have a real carreer?
They jump from local office to local office until somebody dies (or gets named SEC chief) and then they hole shot to higher office.
If you are a SA councilman, you wedge your way into a county job where nobody knows what you do and then jam your way onto the school board like a splinter in a foot.
It would be nice to see a community oriented canidate once in a while.
This office would actually be a great fit for Norby. If you’ve ever spoken with him you know about his talent for recalling facts. Dates, events, trivial information, he’s pretty amazing. I don’t like his political style, but he does have a real talent for understanding history. Test him on OC High School mascot names, he even knows the schools that are now closed and long gone.
I was not aware he was auditioning for tv show….Who wants to be a Millionare….
Is this the best OC can do?? This guy is useless. He should go out and get a job instead of hanging out at the public trough.

I think the Clerk-Recorder’s office uses computers. Norby wouldn’t have to serve as some kind of human data server.
Maybe he can run for Orange County Honorary Historian? Give him a free parking space and a free membership at the County gym?
Sounds like Art is backing off his full-throated endorsement of Hugh Ngyen!
Probably because his current BFF Tony Bushala is supporting Norby.

No. I am backing Nguyen.
Norby is being handled by John Lewis, who I can’t stand – and he is backed by another guy I can’t tolerate, Miguel Pulido.
Lewis and Pulido also gave us an unqualified Sheriff in Mike Carona.
Norby has no experience that is relevant to the Clerk-Recorder’s office.
Dykema should look before he leaps. “Former Deputy Clerk Recorder” is a title that has no legal standing.
In fact, Nguyen was forced out of the Clerk-Recorder’s office and now works for the Clerk of the Board, an office that has nothing to do with the Clerk-Recorder. He serves under the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors. He’s a clerk to Norby’s clerk.
This endorsement is payback for Norby’s opposition to the CCW crackdown by Sheriff Hutchens, who Dykema strongly supports. Fine. You know Norby’s record–what do you really know about Nguyen?

Your “facts” are wrong. Nguyen was promoted into his current job.
Daly is an inept Clerk-Recorder. Nguyen will be welcomed back mightily into the dept.
The voters will see “clerk” and vote accordingly.
I don’t understand why people endorse norby wen he hasn’t bin that great of a politican, how do u endorse someone who doesn’t seem tto care about an office ther running for , who simply looks like there just looking for a job that pays, somewher to be till they decide to retire,,,,

For once I’m on Pedroza’s side. Funny how people forget all the great things that Mr. Norby has done:
-Fall asleep on the job, or in courthouse park after a few
-Sexually harass woman
-Rent a room in a motel and pay the bill with his campaign money, than lie saying “its homeless people research”
-Dump his brother Eric,
-Hire a bunch of Council people to work in the 4th dist office so he can solicit their contributors too
How does ex-Sen. John Lewis run his campaign (and Tom Daly’s) and then lobby for county projects? Sound pretty sick.
Norby should never run for another elected office. We hope you never get elected again. You are a joke in OC and done in politics. All those people you pissed off are coming back to haunt you now…and no support for Nelson either? Shame on you Chris.

But, Art, Hugh Nguyen has nothing but praise for the job Daly has done as Clerk-Recorder.
If Nguyen cannot recognize what you think is obvious – that Daly is an inept Clerk-Recorder — then you are backing someone who can’t even correctly assess Daly’s qualifications and record in the job Nguyen wants.
I hope having to think that hard doesn’t make your head hurt, Art.

It is not a great idea for Hugh to attack Daly. But I can – and will.
Insiders tell me that Daly is hated in his department.

Now you’re implying Hugh would like to attack Daly, but won’t for political reasons. That would mean he’s lying when he praises Daly, which would make like those politicians you like to blast. Why would you support Nguyen if he’s not being truthful about his views on Daly?
Either Hugh Nguyen thinks Daly is a good Clerk-Recorder, or he doesn’t. Nguyen praises Daly’s record, which puts him in direct opposition to your opinion on Daly’s record.
Since Nguyen praises Dalys’ record, it stands to reason he’ll run the office pretty much the same way.
So tell us again why you’re backing Hugh Nguyen?

Don’t be coy. You know Nguyen can’t afford to antagonize anyone.
Nguyen has experience and a record of innovation and leadership in the Clerk-Recorders office. Norby is lacking in every way.
Daly has always wanted to be a Supervisor. He has done little to improve his department. It was always a temporary gig for him.
You’re dodging, Art.
You are all-but-saying Hugh Nguyen doesn’t mean it when he praises Daly’s record as Clerk-Recorder. If that is the case, then you need to explain why you are supporting a dishonest candidate for Clerk-Recorder.
