This just came in from our friend Alex Flores, who is the President of the Associated Students at Santa Ana College:
The state budget crisis is bad, and becoming worse. The Rancho Santiago Community College District already has cut $10.5 million, but that might not be enough. According to the numbers proposed by the Governor and the Legislative Analyst’s Office to the California State Legislature, another $12 to $16 million in cuts may be coming. Intersession was eliminated at Santa Ana College as part of the $10.5 million in cuts. Summer session has already been cut by 25%, and if millions more need to be cut, it may have to be reduced further or canceled.
Associated Student Government is taking the lead to address the problem locally in partnership with the SAC Foundation by initiating a fundraising campaign to generate revenue to restore cut classes. For every $4,500 we are able to raise, a class section can be restored which will benefit 30 students. Our goal is to raise enough money to restore as many class sections as possible. In this way, we move from complaining to creating constructive solutions.

Can you say “Study Group”. Keeps the costs down the riff-raff out and everybody’s happy. Except for the unions.
