Our former blogger, Chris Emami, is reporting, over at the Red County blog, that Assemblyman Van Tran (pictured above, in the pink shirt) has filed a Statement of Intention to run for the 35th State Senate District in 2012.
At first glance this makes no sense as Tran is going to term out of his Assembly seat in two years. So he would be running for the State Senate without a title.
Cunningham also pointed out, in a previous post, that it is likely that Assemblyman Jim Silva (pictured above, on the left) will also run for the 35th State Senate seat in 2012.
Are you ready for Van Tran versus Jim Silva? Talk about two horrible choices!
Could it be that Van Tran is afraid to take on State Senator Lou Correa in the 34th State Senate District in 2010? He should be. Tran barely beat unknown Democrat Ken Arnold this year. What the hell makes him think he could take out Correa? No way!
So instead it looks like Tran will wimp out and wait until 2012.
Now all this could be nullified if State Senator Tom Harman, who is the incumbent in the 35th State Senate District, ends up running for California State Attorney General in 2010. I don’t think he would win though. The Republicans have only been able to win two statewide seats of late – the Governorship and the office of the Insurance Commissioner.
You just know that Tran and Silva will spend a fortune hating on Mexicans if they end up running against each other in 2012.
Isn’t anyone besides me bothered and irritated by these termed out politicos playing musical chairs as they seek an alternative public office, thereby perpetuating their careers as an elected? For instance, Silva was a Supervisor and termed out after (I think) 12 years, now he is looking for another elective office after he is termed out as a State Assemblyman. How about retirement and some new blood?
Apparently these to be termed out politicians are no better than the Democratic hacks that recently passed the budget. Both of these guys are going to be targets of recall!
