Priest who covered up for molesters to do invocation for Board of Supervisors

The Republicans on the Orange County Board of Supervisors have done it again – given safe harbor to a Catholic figure who covered up for molesters.  You might recall that they tried to put Catholic Monsignor John Urell on a County Commission.  Red-faced County blog editor Matt/Jubal Cunningham then started the “Urell Amigos” – only to unwittingly reveal the names of molestation victims.  Jubal ended up getting excoriated on the John and Ken Show.

Now, Gustavo Arellano, of the OC Weekly, has caught the BOS as they have once more got snuggly with a guy who covered up for molesters.  Arellano found in a BOS addendum that this Tuesday’s BoS agenda currently lists Monsignor Lawrence Baird as giving the invocation at 9:30 in the morning.

Arellano reported that “Baird is a notorious figure in the Orange diocese’s sex-abuse scandal. As its longtime spokeshole, it was his job to deny any scandal to reporters and spin, spin, spin when confronted with reality. Most notoriously, he called Michael Harris, the former principal of Mater Dei and Santa Margarita high schools, an “icon to the priesthood” to reporters after Harris had quit the latter job in 1994 even though the Orange diocese already knew at that point that Harris–who was battling sex-abuse lawsuits–liked teenage boys.”

What a joke our Supervisors are – but I am sure that Supervisor Bill Campbell was the instigator of this scandal, just as he was the one who tried to appoint Urell to that County Commission.  And of course his pal is Jubal, who Campbell appointed to the County Parks and Recreation Commission.  What a bunch of red-faced creeps!
